What seems to separate Valentina Lisitsa from many other contemporary greats is she takes chances often. She is never content to just play it "safe". I have no idea where Valentina ranks among the world's best pianists, but She's been my favorite pianist for a very long time now.
Indeed, she has a technique second to none - I enjoy her playing a lot. Sometimes though I feel she plays too fast for the sake of it especially for Beethoven.
She's definitely RUclips's Favorite pianist and for good reason. I think there are several traditionalists who don't like her for the fact that she gained her fame on her own through hard work and dedication.
This is the kind of music that reaffirms one belief that there is a great good. Very little music approaches this level. I'm also surprised that #7 is not performed more.
Simply fantastic. Daring Presto but beautifully clear and full of the dance - The Largo e Mesto simmers with passion in a frozen landscape - The Menuetto beautifully phrased and just for once with a minuet played at the right speed... moving forward all the time - the finale perfect and the final coda is a swine but so elegant and that diminuendo was thrilling. I have always thought that this is the first sonata where Beethoven really created something totally new and when Valentina played this I heard it for the first time again.
i love it when artists are so connected to their instruments- like when guitarists just like stand there and wail on it, heads back, eyes closed winding and writhing, mouthing silent utterances heard deep within their souls alone...you see it with all true musicians that were gifted by God...when they live the piece they play...and that is seen here without a doubt; she is one with the keys and composition and her emotional connection is absolutely visceral...i am sure Beethoven viewed this from on high with the utmost joy as she does such great justice to the work ;) well played m'lady, well played
I played this Sonata for my LRSM, and this video is so inspiring. I'm still learning so many things just by listening to these Beethoven recordings! Also watching how the hands move on the keys to produce the appropriate sound is a priceless treasure! Thanks Valentina for this wonderful project!

She is superb. I love the way she strikes keys (piano is also a percussion). I love the dynamism in her interpretation of Beethoven. One day, I want to play Beethoven like her.

For so long Horowitz was my favorite pianist, then I experienced Lisitsa. I will say now that I cherish both the same.
