This fanciful WWII musical is enjoyable escapism. Sit back and enjoy June Allyson singing "Young Man With a Horn" to Harry James' trumpet; Jimmy Durante's "Inky-Dink"; Lena Horn's "Paper Doll"; and Gracie Allen's "Concerto for Index Finger." Look for comic geniuses Ben Blue and Buster Keaton along with a young Ava Gardner and Xavier Cugat (sans Chihuahua). Richard Connell and Gladys Lehman were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

My mom played the little girl in the very beginning, (Patsy) she was about 4 yrs old at the time. It was her first
movie. Saw it on TCM tonight. Fun movie with some very big stars in it.

I love this movie. I have the DVD and watch it so much! It's a great story with great stars and you must see Jimmy Durante and the great song about wanting to stay or go! Love it!

The movie is on dailymotion...a mix of vaudeville acts & entertainers of the day . . some great, like Gracie Allen, Harry James. . some painfully bad, trying way too hard to be 'funny', and not. Dumb plot also.

I was wondering as the trailer had so little about the plot. But the musical performances look to be worth the price of admission.
