My favourite is that Dale does know that his wife is cheating on him but chooses not to as it ruined Bill’s life and it appears that something are better off unanswered.

I think that would also explain why Dale is so scornful towards Bill, because of his fear that if he confronts Nancy and he ends up divorced he would turn out like him, and because of that he rationalizes hating what he never wishes to become himself.

Cotton has an uncanny ability to sniff out people's backgrounds. When he first meets Kahn, he immediately knows he's Laotian, when he meets Gary he immediately knows he's Jewish. I feel like if Bobby wasn't his biological grandson, he would immediately detect this and be very vocal about it. He loves Bobby and even praises Hank for "making him."

As an autistic person, I think it could be possible to read him that way. But you also have to remember that he went through a lot of abuse because of his dad, and his masking to me at least seems less autism-driven and more driven by the fact that he grew up in a not-very-progressive time period regarding masculinity and the way a man should act if he wants to be considered one of the guys.
Hank definitely fidgets, which could be seen as stimming, but even non-autistic and people who would be considered neurotypical can stim and fidget. It's just human nature and doesn't automatically mean he's on the spectrum.
Same with his devotion and obsession with propane. That could easily be read as autism just as easily as it could be read as him having ADHD or anything else.
People who see Hank as autistic aren't in the wrong for seeing him as such; canonical autism representation in media is very focused on a very few depictions of autism (usually nonverbal, always stimming, obsesses over childish things OR incredibly mature and smart, essentially savants which in reality are quite rare!) so people seeing their own autistic traits in Hank is wonderful 😊 It just means he's a relatable character! In the end, it is up to each individual autistic person to decide for themselves and nobody really has "a say" in what it really is except the creator(s) (and even then, headcanons exist for a reason)!
I hope that made even a little bit of sense. Sometimes I over-explain and then I get jumbled up 😅

Which is a play on real people like him. Right wing conspiracy theorists often (not always) don’t see the real conspiracies and just pick and choose whatever ones sound plausible to them. The thing is, most conspiracies are plausible because powerful people do bad things. The problem with that though, is the truth eventually comes out. You can’t keep a kabbalah hidden for hundreds or thousands of years. We’ve seen evidence of real conspiracies with JFK and MLK’s assassinations, but instead they focus on what they feel like focusing on.

    • @dsprocks
      @dsprocks 3 месяца назад +13

Yes I always assumed because of that episode that the reason why he has so much free time to do whatever but still does some work most days is that he owns a company which rents limousines to people which provides him a steady income.
Also, multiples episodes of King of the Hill were obviously broadcast in a different order than what was intended with a few episodes because it's easy to tell when they're rewriting things like their past lives despite previous episodes or when they just went out of order because the writers were otherwise very good with show continuity.
At the end of the day though it's just a fiction not real so the writers do whatever they need to do to make the episode work whether it makes sense or not.
They will make Dale intensely stupid or very smart able to figure things out that the others can't like when Ted Wasonasong asks the guys if they know what eminent domain is in the mcmansion episode and dale says how it's a way for contractors to get lucrative kickback deals through the government to which Ted says "correct", and Dale also downloaded instructions on how to operate a tank which he did with ease, only making one mistake shooting the cannon.
The point of the show is to be funny, so they write whatever they need to in order to make you laugh and entertain you.

I think Hank is neurodivergent. I know people are quick to say 'oh, not every character is Autistic' but there's very few characters I get this vibe from. I know a lot of it is trauma, but a lot of signs of trauma are also traits of Autism. I'm Autistic myself and have watched King of the Hill every day since it was put on Hulu. No idea how long its been, but I'm just saying, I've seen every episode a few times. I've been watching it regularly likely since I was brought home from the hospital. I was born only a few months after it aired and my mom's always liked it.
He 'needs something to jangle' when going to speak to Enrique, and whether we really see it or not, because there's a lot of the Hills lives we don't see, it sounds like this is a recurring thing with him. It's a stim that he's using to try to comfort himself.
That episode where he wanted a meatloaf sandwich but really didn't want to even chance having to sit at the long table or being pulled into conversation. And his big fix that he was so excited for was headphones. Which my god is relatable.
He's socially naieve and awkward, misses social cues, and has trouble reading people. The only being he is completely comfortable around and able to relax with is Ladybird. He's so close and loves Peggy, but he just can't be entirely open with her. Ladybird is what I would qualify as an emotional support dog (huge difference from a service dog) since we see just how much better Hank feels when Ladybird is with him.
Propane is a special interest, as is lawn and home care. Which is a special interest a lot of people don't pick up on with undiagnosed Autistic adults.
Cotton being Cotton turned Hank into a very high masking individual. I am too, no one ever picks up that I'm Autistic. But that's because I also dealt with A LOT of religious trauma, verbal abuse by 3 parents, teachers, and a lot bullying where even teachers were joining in. Hank can't even be completely honest and open with himself because he's had to shut down so much of his personality from such a young age.
We know how incredibly organized he is by his garage.
It also makes sense why he would want to be with someone like Peggy. Aside from a few flubs here and there, Peggy is a very direct, easy to read and navigate person. She says what she wants instead of him having to guess, she doesn't (usually) play mind games, and she is very caring toward him, showing him affection he was often denied. She's also good at calming him down and generally being there for him.
If you disagree, it's totally cool, I'm not going to argue. But this personally is why it would make sense to me if he was. I have a few other reasons, but these are just what's at the top of my head. I doubt that they would ever say it directly, but it does make me feel like there's someone on TV that has a brain similar to mine.

The meatloaf sandwich debacle really resonated with me. I honestly probably would have just given up on the sandwich.
I don't remember the exact episode, but Peggy points out one of Hank's tics, which is also one of mine. "Don't do that thing with your nose that you don't know you do". Then we see him flare his nostrils.

I would not mind them recasting Dale’s voice actor Johnny Hardwick’s passing, but if they didn’t. I also would not mind them killing him off.
    (How I’d might do it)
Maybe he’s developed cancer due to all those fake pesticides he’s been surrounded by during his career. Heck they can even suggest that Dale has known for years and tried to treat it himself, and that his own treatment was causing his baldness.
And in the end while everyone surrounds him in the hospital saying there goodbyes. Nancy final tries to tell Dale the big not so secret.. secret. As she gets choked up he holds her hands, smiles at her, then smiles at Joseph and says “Yes, I know, but he’s still my son.”
While everyone starts crying… Dale eventually says, “Look, the aliens are here.” As everyone looks up, then screen fades to white.

The reasoning that Dale "did the math" and couldn't have physically been with Nancy sets up the expected reveal that he's gonna name his prime suspect. But then his alien theory is revealed and Hank again mirrors the audience's reaction: What? We see into Dale's imagination where Nancy and Redcorn are merely good platonic buddies. We see that in the lawnmower episode and the numerous times Dale has an opportunity with other women but expresses his undying love for Nancy instead.

Good idea, doing video on fan theories. There's a few more I've heard, varying levels of possibility:
Hank and Hal (a one-shot character voiced by Drew Carey) are half-brothers. Given what Cotton has been doing, and assuming he doesn't have a narrow urethra, it could be true.
Dale's "sh-sh-sha" is chanting "USA" in Russian. Dale admitted once to knowing Russian, but it doesn't really make since given how distrustful of his country he is.
Cotton has a narrow urethra and he genetically passed it down to Hank and Junichiro. Given the existence of GH I doubt this one is true. In real life narrow urethras don't affect reproduction, but this is a cartoon.
Luanne blew up the Megalomart in a mental breakdown, but she did not intend to kill Buckley. His angel visited to help her cope with her guilt. Remember that she was studying propane in a previous episode.
Dale is on the Autism Spectrum. He manifests the signs in a different way than Hank does, but the traits are there.
Bobby never went through puberty because his deer hunt didn't happen. Connie and Jospeh both go through puberty and had successful deer hunts. This is more of a thematic reason to keep Bobby's voice the same, but it's an interesting idea.

Obviously, it undermines his relationship with Bobby - if Bobby is just different because Hank isn't his father, that's just kind of dumb and takes away from what I would argue is the CORE of the show.
Many episodes with Cotton are actually more about his relationship with Bobby and how the two raise a kid that's different with him.
In episodes with Khan, Hank finds common ground with him because they are both parents and it's often because their kids didn't turn out like they wanted (Connie's name comes from her being Khan Jr. because he wanted a boy, not a girl).
Of course it ruins his relationship with Peggy and Bill/Boomhaeur for obvious reasons.

Bobby having powers is honestly plausable:
When he went to military school bobby was shown to be able to shrug off anything cotton could throw at him, things that cotton could barely handle when he was bobbys age.
Hank multiple times in the series has been shown to be able to communicate with spirits (tom landry in the y2k episode, as well as tom landry again and a few presidents in the food ban episode) as well as showing he has a rage boost ability.

17:48 -*sigh* This is not a true Bhudda..it is typically known as a money king or similar name after translation in asian countries where Bhudism is the majority practiced religion. It is not truely made to look like the freligious figure and is very wrong for his character. The whole point was that his last incarnation before finding enlightenment was a rich prince who was burdened by his excess and took intrests in the Yogis who were following the eightfold path that passed through his kingdom. He joined them, giving up his material wealth, excess food, and all earlthy pleasures. The fat, joyful man with ears weighted down by giant gold earings as he finds enlightment doesn't really match up. This is because this desighn is a novelty. It is basically put on shop counters to act as a leave a penny or tip jar. It is also produced as a chaep souvenier piece that artificially examplified the steriotypical concept of asian culture like the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" statues that were a common western nick nacl produced only to be sold as such to westerners. It has nothing to do with the Bhuddist belief system and more the opposite as it is a capitolist tool to further acquire material wealth. Its really more respectful to refer to it as a Money King or even Fat Buhdda for distinction if you must call it one at all. I dont blame anyone since it is such a commonly shilled pop culture concept but it is something I wish was more widely educated that it is.
Further..tje point of Khan comparing the Money King to Bobby is a tongue in cheek jab at his superficiality. A true practicing Bhuddist WOULD know the difference and not make this comparison even as a joke. It goes along with the fact the family uses the cultural belief system more as a social status benefit which goes afaisnt its main point in the first place. Yes. Bhuddism typically does teach reasonable aquisution if enlightenment over time rather than attemtpting to just give everything up at once in the hopes of acheiving it suddenly. Kahn and Mihn clearly are focused on an economic upward mobikty lifestyle though so it is clearly a hypocritical act to "follow" Bhudism for them.

My own headcanon is that Dale knew but wasn't particularly upset about it. Like, Dale's a whacko but he's also pretty chill about some things people would typically not be chill about. There's not really evidence to support it, I just like the idea that he was just waiting for them to outright tell him on their own instead of doing some kind of "ah-HA!" to them. (That would totally be something he'd love to do normally, and he's very protective of Nancy, so again, no evidence, I just like it)

Here’s my theory-Mike Judge and/or the other writers are not Texas A & M fans. There’s quite a bit of shade and preference for its rival throughout the series. In the second season premiere, Peggy mentions a team that “beat the Aggies.” In “Escape from Party Island” when Hank finds college students from both University of Texas and Texas A& M, he says to him, “How are the Longhorns looking this year?” but he doesn’t ask about the Aggies. And the season finale features a school that has a similar logo and fans or alumni who pretty much act like fools. It all looked like a dig to me.

That's another theory, but I don't personally feel like Boomhauer would be the type to lie to get with a woman. Especially about something like that. He's a player, but he's an honest person.
It's more likely the writers just wanted to throw that in at the end like "Woah, didn't see that coming did ya?" without much thought into how much sense it made.

So yeah Dale knows at least subconsciously but is actively trying to not acknowledge it by spinning it in whatever way he can to maintain this image he has in his head.
