well yet once more i have come back to this great video thank you Charles you are by far the best instructor i have seen on you tube thank you for your time given freely
Thanks for a wonderful painting Charles. I come from watercolor to acrylics and was really struggling. Now I realize I can use my acrylics like I did watercolor. Thank you so much for your information. I enjoy all of your videos very much I’m 94 and still painting likes mad. Thanks again.
i dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot my login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Spencer Lucian i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Mr. Evans, you're a great teacher, I was about to throw my acrylics in the trash, and focus on watercolor, I have learned a great deal from you, thanks again for your videos.
Wow! Charles! I’ve just discovered you.......you could just be a lifesaver to my painting attempts!, you explain things so simply, I normally paint in acrylics, would love to see more acrylic lessons 😉
Wow your art is amazing and you make it look so simple. I just started a watercolor class and sometimes I feel like giving up but you encourage me to continue. Thank you.
Perfect timing on this tutorial Charles, I gave acrylics a go but we're using the paint way to thick I think, will try again with more water.Thanksfor sharing your tips.😀
Great great great i learn something all the time.. Hope to see you do something a little bigger..Love the pictures in the back round you have painted. Thank you Charles . You should do live some day.
If every you get a chance to do another youtube step by step painting with Acrylics Charles it would be lovely if you could do a step by step tutorial on canal scene in acrylics, I have looked on youtube no one has done one...Thank you my lovely for showing us how to paint and making it easier for us, you are a excellent teacher..I bought a few of your step by step books...
Love watching you using acrylics using washes like water colour, is it worth using water colour with the disadvantage of having to use that horrible masking fluid ? Love the way you can put light over dark
I am glad I found your videos. I find you easier to follow than some of the others. I like how you explain your colors and which ones you use and how to use them. I like how you simplify the process in such an exciting way. I love how you are using acrylics like watercolors and mix and abuse your brushes. I have a question. I read or heard that if you add more than 30% water to acrylics it won't adhere to paper (?) I am new to acrylics and needing much instruction. Thank you for yours!!
Thank you so much, pleased you enjoyed them. That 30% business is absolute nonsense! If you want you can use them exactly like watercolours. Do a big sky wash with as much water as you like.
@@charlesevans7706 Thank you, I think I will. I just purchased your book, so I am excited to dive into it. I like listening yo your voice you sound like Sir Anthony Hopkins....;)
HiCharles m really excited to see this video today. Never knew acrylics can b painted like water colour n yet able to take advantage of its medium n add colour on top to highlight. May I ask if I store the balance cryllic paints in the plette box how do I reuse the dried paints? It is easy to dissolve dried up water colour paints in palettes. Acrylics become very hard when dry. Thanks for your tips.
I noticed you painted the tree from the top down towards the earth, is this particular to acrylics, as a fellow artist Ashley Jackson advises with water colours too always paint from the earth upwards "thats the way they grow". Your thoughts please.
Can you use the same methods on canvas as I started with watercolour moved to acrylics but found doing clouds with acrylic to difficult as the white just disappeared in to the sky
Do you use a certain set of colors every time, like in watercolor? Do you have a list which colors you use? I am currently working through you ships and harbours watercolor book. Its very helpful.
Charles, I love your style and aspire to your quality. You create exactly what I want to create so you have been a great inspiration and teacher. I do have a question: Is there a "technical" term for the acrylic water color method or do you just call it water color? Just wondering since it has some advantages over straight water color. Love your voice.
Just the same question I was going to ask! Many other places tell you not to add too much water to your acrylics or it will "underbind" and come off the canvas.
Amazing...........I am a beginner and have only used watercolours because I thought you had to have special canvas, brushes etc to do Acrylics. I too used to watch you on the tv so am pleased to find you on you tube. Do you spray the acylics on your pallet before putting a lid on and I know you washed your brushes whilst you were using them but do you have to clean them again later?
Very difficult to hear you all the time. Very nice tutorials for practicing some important basics. My raw sienna (Lefranc/Louvre) is brownish. When I add white it turns into a flesh tone
He's gone into mumbling mode.....what's the problem with keeping the volume up. It seems to occur when he turns his head to paint. Get some proper video and sound recording equipment .
@@charlesevans7706 Good idea Charles. You can buy a nice set up for a grand. Do you mind if I ask what you clean you’re brushes with? I try my best but they do get clogged up after the acrylics 😊
Sue Hughes I just run them under the Tap.

Hi, once the acrylics have dried you can’t do anything with them, that’s why I always recommend using a stay wet palette.
@@charlesevans7706 thank u for your advice.
Brilliant Charles, what in your opinion is easier for beginners?
Acrylics are certainly more forgiving.
Great acrylic tutorial Charles. Thanks. Question. Do you have CE Sand in acrylic paint? I’ve got the watercolour version.
No I’m afraid not, sorry.
I noticed you painted the tree from the top down towards the earth, is this particular to acrylics, as a fellow artist Ashley Jackson advises with water colours too always paint from the earth upwards "thats the way they grow". Your thoughts please.

I have heard various arguments about acrylic paint flaking if it is thinned too much with water. Do you know anything about this?
I’ve never had any issues with flaking and I use it all ways.
Can these water colour techniques be used only on watercolour paper?
No, it’s the same on acrylic paper.
Do you use a certain set of colors every time, like in watercolor? Do you have a list which colors you use? I am currently working through you ships and harbours watercolor book. Its very helpful.
Yes I have 9 colours that I use in watercolour and 10 in acrylic. They’re all listed on my website.

I do have a question: Is there a "technical" term for the acrylic water color method or do you just call it water color? Just wondering since it has some advantages over straight water color. It has the advantage of being able to put light on top of dark. As for a term for it no, I don’t have one!
Is the reason the trees don't bleed into the sky because of the thickness of the paint or that it's on an easel?
No. It just doesn’t bleed with acrylics, unlike watercolour!
@@charlesevans7706 Is there a reason you would choose watercolor paper vs canvas for acrylic paintings?
Not everyone can afford or feel as confident with canvas, so I show both!
Glad you're back - changed sponsors I see! Do you prefer these brushes?
Fiona Frazer I do, but I prefer the paints even more!
Doesn't all that water ruin the binder in the acrylics and the paint will not bind to the paper? Won't it flake off when dry?
Adam Ford no, not at all. Acrylic is a water usable medium, it’s made to be mixed with water as much as watercolour is.
Adam Ford and incidentally watercolour has binder in it.
also you dont have alot of underbinding trouble when you paint on papers because they are so obsorbent
Just the same question I was going to ask! Many other places tell you not to add too much water to your acrylics or it will "underbind" and come off the canvas.
What easel do you use?
It’s a metal sketching easel.
Hello Charles just found your video's really very interesting you are a great teacher. Do you also paint with oils? Thank you from Italy.
KATHLEEN CRUISE pleased you enjoyed them. I do, but tend to just put acrylic or watercolour on here.
Who makes it or what name brand. I have not seen it in US.
THANKS AGAIN !
Hi, the acrylics and paper I use are all made by Daler-Rowney.

First time viewer - wonderful art and instruction, thank you! What do you use in place of Payne's Gray in watercolors?
Jack Grusenmeyer pleased you enjoyed it. I use ultramarine blue and burnt sienna mixed.
If you are painting acrylic on watercolor paper do you have to seal it in any way or do you just put it under glass like watercolor?
Linda Wery no, don’t need to do anything, just treat it like watercolour in this state.
that was brillant thank you
Geraldine Millar thank you too.
Brilliant
TY so much for your Art. I never fail to learn from you. I love your books too. Are you still using WN paint and brushes ? Cheers.
