I totally agree with you-- been back in the country for about 25 yrs, and I love it. But I feel it is not going to be possible for many people to escape the cities now.. Even out here EVERYTHING is soooo expensive. I pray they can get out, if they want to
Thank you Pete for sharing your thoughts with us!!!! We agree with you!!! I have done the same thing, started a food forest seven years ago and lots of small veggie gardens with tons of flowers for pollination. My 45 year old son told me just yesterday that what we have done on in our little back yard has brought in so many birds and pollinators. It's so alive out there. We have a old well that's not in use. We are thinking about calling a well company to check it out for us. Hoping to do this very soon. We homestead a one fourth acre and it's full Pete. We only have very small walkways, lol! The Great grand kids love it. It's their playground full of snacks, lol. GOD Bless you Pete and your family. Thank you , from south Texas.
Watching this two years on, how right you were…so glad for you and your family that you found your piece of heaven. We moved to a small Texas town and the growth followed us 😓. Good job we have acreage to surround us👍
You’re talking abt in 2005 Hurricane Ike. I’m from Houston and we moved to a very rural city 5 hours away in West Texas for my husband’s job on 15 acres of raw land. We are 1yr in and so happy and content. We’re getting so much interest from family members still in Houston who want to make the move as well. Thankful and grateful aren’t enough words🙏 stay faithful. I’m glad I found your channel.
I hate city life as well and we’ll be moving to the country when I retire in 5 years. I plan on homesteading just like you and learning a lot from following your channel. Thank you for providing professional video’s. I bought 9 acres on a private fishing lake that is fully self contained which includes two 30’ x 60’ greenhouses. Everything is solar powered and automated and Carroll County in Tennessee has the best farm land in the nation. It’s also in the top 10 of the US for deer hunting. I share the same values that you do and have been preparing for the battle of Armageddon for 20 years. God Bless you and your family.
That sounds awesome and looks like you'll be all set at your new place. But the way thing are going in our nation and the world...I don't think we'll have five more years.
Never, ever did I think we would see the likes of what is going on in our country. Well stated message, on point, and good advice. Being prepared is all one can do. Well done, keep on brother.
Greenhouse vids nice Pete. I'm sitting on 50 acres doing the 4'x16' box gardens. Deer and Turkeys in area no damaged to plants YET LoL. Six boxes this year 6 more next summer. Your keeping me motivated ... cheers bud.
Thanks for the great advice Pete. I've lived in the city, the burbs, and the country and the best option is by far the latter. I wholeheartedly agree with your comments and find it very disturbing that the USA is going down this likely irreversible path. OBTW - received the seeds; much appreciated. Stay well and keep the videos coming.
you prolly dont care but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my password. I love any help you can give me.
@Dayton Alvaro Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
1 hr and 15 minutes away from a large city and we love it, we have a total of 15 acres now and we are growing a lot of our food, your comments are very true we see it happening
God bless you Pete ! You put everything perfectly into perspective. I gratefully received the HOLY SPIRIT in 1977, and am conscientiously aware of the time we are in. Thank you so much for sharing this Truth, and ALWAYS keep in mind that Our GOD has everything in control and Order. We look at the end game, and a bigger picture, so my brother, in Christ, fear nothing...
After college, I moved to my parent's place in Cypress. It was perfect. I was close enough to Houston for my job, had room for my horses (12!!) and could save up for my perfect place. I bought 18 acres in San Jacinto county in 2006 - completely wooded. I cleared and added a driveway, fencing, electric and a pole 36x48 barn in 2010. Moved up here in 2018. My father moved with me (mom passed in 2016). We are doing pretty well with my now 2 horses and 94 chickens! Hope to add Kiko goats in the next year. But, on topic, I am still have my job in Houston. It's now a 75 mile commute, but my Prius makes that not so expensive. And even more, Covid shutdown has made that even more inexpensive (working from home). I love not having so many people everywhere. I do wish I had a partner. Dad is an immensely appreciated help, but he is not going to be here for the long term. As someone who is starting a homestead, it does bother me a tiny bit that his care might infringe on the animal care, but he does come first, (always). I just hope i can continue to care for the animals too. And can continue after he's gone.
Absolutely agree we got out of the city of Nashville TN 17 years ago on our 4 acre Backwoods Homestead, getting ready to purchase 10 more beside us. We already have our garden, chickens, and building a barn out back in the future. Will never go back to the city.
Thank you for putting this out there. Fully agree. You mention getting a property with a well but don't see any in current listings in a reasonable price range. From your experience of living in NE Texas, do you know around the depth to hit water when having a company drill a well? Also, can you recommend any honest good companies to do the work? I'm trying to plan as much as I can. Thanks so much!
I'm not too familiar with NE Texas but the water table will vary depending on what area you're at. But as for me here in central east Texas the water is 100ft down but my well is 300ft deep and the well pump is at 180ft down. Do a google map search over the area you're looking to move to and do a search for (well drilling service) and you should get some in that area. Here it's about $10,000 complete with pump and presser tank.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Thank you! Sorry; I presumed you were in NE TX. $10K is not bad at all compared to the Phoenix metro. Hopefully it will be similar in the area I am looking at. Thanks again.
When I began my search into looking for a home in the country, I was adamant that it had to be 30 minutes from the nearest city. Then when the “protesters” began to “protest” I thought maybe 45 minutes might be a lot better. Then when the “protesters” attacked the Police Station, I thought an hour might be much better and it is, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I was able to purchase 6 acres and I love it !
Thanks Pete for the video and guess what it’s so exactly like what’s in the GC and all our books ,I bumped into your videos and I’m hooked now and I’m in the nuby stages of preparing the country living so I’m gonna be bugging you with questions lol
Just a couple thoughts for you Pete, you can buy wheat kernels stored in cans for 25 years if you can't grow your own. Just have a grinder and you have fresh flour when there is none in the stores to be had. Rice can be stored for 30 years. Corn for cornflour etc... If they are in their whole form and not ground into flour they will last for decades when kept cool and dry. Same with dehydrated and freeze dried fruits, powdered milk, potatoes and so many other items that can be stored when none are available, or your garden fails due to weather or pests and there are no seeds to plant. The LDS church has distribution centers all over the USA and you do not have to be a member to buy from them. They have several in TX too. You can buy online or in person so check the days and times they are open if you are interested. They have monthly deals and other items when shopping in person and not available online. Some people also use the company Thrive as they have good products also, so many companies do this and some are better than others. LDS keep their costs as low as possible so this can help many people. I know you can and dehydrate yourself, but this is long term storage just in case for things you don't or can't grow yourself and won't need right now, sort of good insurance and peace of mind. Here is the link for the LDS center. providentliving.churchofjesuschrist.org/food-storage?lang=eng Also what happens if there is no fuel for your tractor? In a true grid down situation you've got to have a plan B and maybe you already do. Maybe get some goats to eat all that grass and you can have goat milk too and fertilizer. Just a thought as everything is so crazy, and you are right if Trump wins again... they will lose their minds and it will be total lawlessness and destruction. Thank you for your videos and saying it like it is, as hopefully people will see what is happening and can prepare for what is coming.
Pete love your vids watch a lot of others always come back to yours to relax and watch. The personal philosophical and political views are great as well ... keep em coming cheers.
Good explanation Pete. I agree 100% and am almost 72 years old and never thought I would see what I see today and fear it will just get worse..I have 4 acres In the country and have a tractor and garden and I feel so very blessed. Take care.
pete...i understand your pain concerning coming downtown for jury duty...i was down there as a court bailiff for 26 years and heard those painful cries of having to take off work, etc and drive down there...especially those folks from tomball, katy, baytown, etc...you made the right move at the right time...i agree about the times not getting much better especially when trump wins again...
I am with you spot on Pete, have been making the daily commute into Houston now for 25 years and hate it. I have told you before I have my land (26 acres) bought and paid for, just a few more years till retirement and we are headed your way, all the best David.
That's awesome, the market for selling homes is hot right now. I just sold one of my rentals in Katy, TX over the weekend. I had more then 12 offers. But I would be worried, the market might not be that good in a few years.
I couldnt agree more with your opinion Pete. I myself along with the wifey made the move out to the countryside just over 3 years ago. We couldn't be happier out here.
100% agree. You're on the money. Single dad been looking for a property for 3 years. Prices only going up. Don't want to have a mortgage or any debt. Do you have a mortgage on your property?
Loved you video today. I totally agree with you. We are seeing people leave the cities rapidly where I am at. It has driven the prices up so high most can not afford to move.
Hey Pete, Can you make a video about the process of buying land for homestead? Things like how to find it, due deligence, mortgage or no mortgage, etc. Btw, I've been watching and liking your videos for almost a year now 👍
Good words of wisdom. Unfortunately most people would think that hooking up your brush hog to the tractor is just too much work, and take away too much time from their TV shows or Facebook. I totally agree with your thoughts here. I'm 4 years on our 6 acres, got everything going similar to you except solar panels. I put a well in by having a 100ft hole drilled, bought and ran everything else. Still ran 5k. Best decision ever. The only thing I was wondering was if Trump loses and they disarm America, will they come for your two guard dogs next?
Thank you, It's great that you have land and your own water especially in these times. I wouldn't put it past the left to put laws in place to dictate to everyone what types of animals we can own.
Good to hear you take the severe weather stuff seriously. Would love to see more climate change advocacy from you and other homesteaders. The severe weather will be the largest challenge us homesteaders will face.
Hi Pete. Thanks for this video. You don't know how many of us are worried about this next election and what the Left can bring upon us all. My daughter does live in the country and raises chickens and blessed with their eggs. Gardening is her next challenge. Bless you and your family. Oh, Pete, thank you for sending the cucuzza seeds. Will plan to plant next Spring.
You could try to see what it would cost to have a manufactured home built (not a mobile home) on a piece of property and have the well drilled and electrical brought in. They also make nice metal building home called "Barndominiums"
I'm in the Houston suburbs and getting closer every day to wanting to leave. I had to drive into the city this past weekend(for the first time in months) and was amazed to see all the tents, prostitutes, and HUGE trash piles(4' high) under the overpasses, and this was in the morning. I've lived in this area for over 20 years and never seen it like this before. We are fortunate enough to have a decent sized lot for suburban living and in an area where we already have chickens and a small garden established at least and I still feel safe enough for now to hang around and keep saving up. Luckily we already have over 100 acres of property in central Texas 100 miles away from any major city with a small house on it. We intend to build a barndo out there but still need at least a couple more years of the big city money to get some passive income going, and also get the infrastructure we want setup with rain catchment, start amending the soil and adding solar. We already have electric and a well(with the worst sulfur smell known to man) so if we had to we could relocate quickly it's an option still. We are looking forward to the day when we get to country living and very happy to be debt free now so if we had to move out quickly the option is there.
That's good that you have property already in the country but I hope in a couple years the economy will still be good enough for you to be able to sell your Houston house.
Good hearing from you again. I know that God is tired of his people with closed ears and eyes. Can't imagine how long hate has abound. The lord said he will pay a visit upon the third and fourth generations. We living now and those yet to be born are of this said generation. Thank you for assisting me in my search for the signs of the times to come. I need to build myself up for the journey through this peralis times to come. I need to be able to stand for the word of God is alive, ,true, and binding. Stay well my brother.
Thank you, yes most of Gods people are not waking up to what's happening and think things will go back to normal. The lord has warned us ahead of time.
Excellent video and commentary. Thank you. We are lifelong Wyoming folks, living in the Northwest corner where the population density is 4 people per square mile. We raise livestock... mostly Narragansett turkeys and American Bresse chickens. I traveled the U.S. on business for a number of years, visiting most of the stinking ant-hills that we euphemistically call “American cities”. During those years, the best part of any trip was seeing the filthy pit fade in the distance through the rearview mirror. We have no solar except for a small system for charging batteries. If the switch gets turned off, we’ll do what our great grandparents did... light the darkness with oil lamps and heat the house with wood and coal... both of which are in abundance here. I don’t like solar for a couple of reasons. First, every guy I know that has a solar setup is constantly tinkering, fixing, replacing. Secondly, we appreciate a low profile and I do not want our place to be a beacon in an otherwise black night. Then there is the cost of solar, which is by no means insignificant. I’m also a licensed HAM radio operator and a fair shot with pistol and rifle. I don’t see how we are going to get through this worsening crisis and remain one nation. Look at Portland... Chicago... Seattle... Philadelphia... all of California... the northeast corridor. The streets are filled with the mindless products of our failed educational system... the police stand and watch as our history and heritage go up in smoke. In my mind, there are two major causes for the 50-year decline of The Republic. First of all, we allowed our youth to be propagandized by the leftist and/or inept primary school system and two, we ended the draft... and along with it, the requirement for our male young to do their duty and learn what it means to serve. My God... in 1944, American youth stormed the beaches at Normandy... today, our pathetic young “men” can’t even decide whether to sit or stand when they pee. They attack statues which honor the courage and bravery of earlier generations, while they themselves wouldn’t risk a fingernail to protect their sister from being dishonored. We are in for a rough ride. Woe to the city dweller.
If you have kids, moving to the country can cause issues. My folks moved to the country when I was a baby. When I was in my early twenties I could not find any work in the area, admittedly this was in the middle of a recession, so I had to move to the city. Also I wanted to leave too. I’ve seen this pattern happen in many other families too. However in later life the children might come back to the farm.
True but it's best for young kids. It keeps them away from all the bad influences in the city. They can move out if they like when they're older... If there's an America left.
Maybe this is part of our nature. Live close to the family as a child. Then want to head off to the bright lights as a teenager and young adult. Then become independent. Then look at how to sustain oneself on a farm in later life, maybe after one's own children if one has them have left. Then stay on the farm for as long as possible. Australia has so far not gone down as far down the road the USA is walking on. However there are some who would love to have a revolution and then start pushing people around for their own good.
Hey Pete! I live north of Crosby, close to Huffman. It's on the east side of Lake Houston. I was surprised when you talked about jury duty, down town. It's horrible. Wondering if you have a Facebook page with Messenger? We have 33 acres west of Lagrange. My 1980 kubota tractor developed a fist sized hole in the block recently. Would love to chat with you about your Mahindra.
I have a Mahindra 2538. It is my first tractor so I don't have much to compare however here is what impressed me: the CRD system doesn't require DEF; as Pete noted, it is heavier especially with the backhoe frame; I was able to get it about $8K cheaper (25% less) than the green brand; it has 3 ranges (L, M, H); it has steering brakes (individual pedals for L/R when desired); the front bucket is larger than most of its competition plus higher weight capacity. Dislikes: shifting ranges (L, M, H) is tough to do and difficult to find the gears--that's about it.
You are spot on pete!!! Wow!!! I could agree more!! Pete for president 2024. I was lucky I grew up on a farm. Always hunted and fished. Again I couldn't agree more get away from the city. Get out in gods country
Pete B. I’ve got Hambones seasoning. Where could I send you a bottle to try. It goes amazing on grilled or baked veggies. Also go like my page to see some of the inspirational talks I give. Thanks for responding
Pete shhhhhhh let the city slickers think it's great the best. We know differently. Nice and quiet in the counrty. People look after their neighbors almost better than themselves LoL shhhhhhh ... cheers.
You are spot-on with everything you cite. I agree if Trump wins the left-wing radicals are going to flip out much worse than we have already seen. I'm glad to say our first year's harvest is pretty decent but definitely learning lessons along the way. My late brother was a staunch believer in preparing for these times. It has only been 16 months since he passed but his predictions are happening all around us very rapidly. Thanks for the video.
I did as I do in the garden, I plant seeds. People will read the chapters I mentioned and the Holy Spirit Will open there eyes if they're open to it. I will be talking about Christ more in future videos.
I totally agree with you-- been back in the country for about 25 yrs, and I love it. But I feel it is not going to be possible for many people to escape the cities now.. Even out here EVERYTHING is soooo expensive. I pray they can get out, if they want to

Great video Pete, every point and comment you made, unfortunately, was 100% true!
Thank you 👍
BTW agree with you 100% on what you said. I would also encourage having a big stocked pond for additional water and food source.
👍
Your videos are amazing. Learning a lot about gardening. So thanks for that. I was wondering what you did for a living?
Thank you, I was a toolmaker, grinder and machinist for 30 years and owened rental properties too.
Thank you 👍
We have been looking at property in our area for a year. They are already very expensive. Anything affordable we have found needs major work.
You could try to see what it would cost to have a manufactured home built (not a mobile home) on a piece of property and have the well drilled and electrical brought in. They also make nice metal building home called "Barndominiums"
Pete, what part of Texas are you guys in?
East Texas
@@petebeasttexashomesteading True, that is a risk. I bought it about 50% below what the value is now so hopefully it won't go down that much.
Yes, it’s very scary. People are worried. And unfortunately there are some who are oblivious to the situation.
👍
I agree 👍
I agree with you 100%. We are seeking God’s guidance and making necessary changes.
Awesome 👍
I agree 100%. Love watching your videos, very helpful.
Awesome, thank you!
I want a tractor, but my backyard is only 3000 square feet, half of it cement patio.
Yeah, that's a bit small for a tractor 🙂
@@petebeasttexashomesteading I really like the channel and enjoy watching the videos.
@@msfoto3541 Thank you 👍
You are right. Thanks for the video.
Thank you and thanks for watching.
How do you like your Mahindra Tractor?
I like it a lot, you get a lot of tractor for the money and it's heavy like a tractor should be.
Thank you but being president is not for me 🙂
Not for creepy joe either. I'd vote for you before him
Amen. God bless you
Thank you and God bless you too 👍
Pete B. I’ve got Hambones seasoning. Where could I send you a bottle to try. It goes amazing on grilled or baked veggies. Also go like my page to see some of the inspirational talks I give. Thanks for responding
Well this aged well!
Thank you, Your brother was smart, sorry for your loss.
PRETTY RICKY CAN I HAVE THE $50,000 DOLLARS I WANT TO OPEN A REYES GOSPEL CAFE
God bless as you follow God's counsel He gave to Ellen White over 100 years ago.
Agree with you about what's coming but really believe you're pointing in the wrong direction when it comes to what's behind it.
There are people on both sides of politics that are working to destroy our system and way of life to further their agenda.
Pet, you didn't tell them, about Jesus.
I did as I do in the garden, I plant seeds. People will read the chapters I mentioned and the Holy Spirit Will open there eyes if they're open to it. I will be talking about Christ more in future videos.
