The all time record low temperature in Dumaguete is 73 degrees. Typical over night low can be close to 80. It would need to be fully air conditioned and have a hot water heater installed in one of the showers. An ex pat needs to budget for trips home to see family. That could easily run $1000 each time.
Yep - tix home every year cost me $1,200. At least.
the master bedroom is big and nice to have a balcony but the sink really close to the wall makes it cramp and the shower with no divider will make everything wet.
I like how they made use of the space in that unite.Placing the bathroom under the stairs .
+mallen4000 It is a very nice place. Just not perfect.....
Very small bathrooms and bedrooms. Limited cabinet space in kitchen also. For 227.00 it is a good deal.
I had a nice place in Antipolo City and it only cost me 9000k a month. All security, two bed room and two bathroom and a washer. Two huge balcony. A place to park my car. How much more can you ask for.
Place looks amazing Ned. I have to admit it though, your current pink house is very nice. I like the fact you have your own backyard to keep some distance from your neighbors lol. That's just me though. Good luck with the house hunting and I hope you guys find a great place!
+LifeJourney From all the thumbs up, it looks like a lot of people agree with you!
Yeap.everybody doing it ,almost every day and night.
Ned, I love your current lot, but the most secure and comfortable place for you, Michelle and any future additions are a lot to consider in your search----best wishes on your hunt!!!
Ned there is a small house down my street renting for 5500 peso. If you like I could ask for a tour and shoot some video/pics for you. I'm the guy that commented from silay city with the four bedroom.
Looks nice. More of a "western type", but for me. The Neighbors are too close. If your the type of person that likes being around people, it looks nice. I like my time away from people, but that is just me. Thanks for taking us along. Blessings.
+Mike William Yeah, I wouldn't be able to wander outside in my boxers much anymore..... Finding a good house rental in Dumaguete isn't that easy!!!
Philippine Dreams OOK. I could have gone my entire life without the image of you, in your boxers. HAAAA. Take care. Blessings.
dumaguete is nice having a boardwalk and a robinson, makes grocery shopping very convenient and not smelly compared to a public market, besides having more expats can drive the prices higher so i settled away from expats, my rent for a 2 bed 1 bath apt with balcony in the master bedroom is less than US$40 along with a yard for patio furniture and to hang clothing to dry, neighbors can be nosy so to avoid theives i have guard dogs to keep me company and the beach is 10 minutes away plus superb air quality.
Quite cheap for a two bedroom townhouse type set up there. Here in the US even living in our apartment at the southern tip of Indiana on a yearly lease still costs us over $600 which is really reasonable because its quite huge. But $227 a month? A retired person from the US can live there comfortably for a minimum $1000 pension with enough to carry him/her over the following month. And of course the weather is gorgeous everyday. I know I was born in Panay Island and just came back from there last week for vacation.
Taz G 8 years ago i was paying $1400 for 2 bed 2 bath apt in los angeles, been back to my hometown and my rent for a 2 bed 1 bath is less than $40.
Hmm I dunno Ned. I'm in Silay (a nice neighbourhood) in a four bedroom two bathroom stand alone house with a security wall and gate. The home is equipped with two kitchens plus a dirty kitchen ...three of the bedrooms have air-conditioning...the fourth bedroom is un used (Hehe granny will sleep in it when she visits 😉). There is also a covered carport. I'm paying 12000 peso each month for my place. I have a feeling if you had found it first it would be me liking for a place to live.
Nice deal. This is more expensive due to proximity to the city.
+Philippine Dreams I live in Talisay City and it sounds a little expensive to me too. There are similar apartments here for about P3,000 less. We live in an 85 SQM house for P8,000, and are now about 15 minutes from one of the largest malls on the planet :-)
+David Spicer I can't imagine getting the place as the one in this video there for 3,000 pesos. even with Talisay being one of the rougher parts of Cebu.
+Philippine Dreams Noisy neighbours, burning of rubbish, disputes. These are the things I don't want. Might have great neighbours to start with, until they move and new neighbours move in, then its fingers crossed and hope.
Philippine Dreams One of the rougher parts of Cebu? Not sure what that means, unless you're judging Talisay by Tabunok. I live about 5 miles from Tabunok, within walking distance of 2 nice resorts. It's extremely quiet here where we live, at times a little too quiet.
I didn't say P3,000. I said P3,000 less. A friend of mine rents 2 of these, side by side, for P13,000. He uses the 2nd one for storage upstairs in one bedroom, and the other bedroom as a guest bedroom. The downstairs he uses for entertaining guests. The only major differences compared to the video is they're 2 bedroom, and the kitchen sink is on the opposite wall with counter-top as well as over-and-under cabinets running from the stairs to the wall. He would kill for that parking area though. His is tiny.
I'm coming there next winter,2017,I hope I can find such a nice apartment for that price
you can't find in USA for this price anyplace
Looks pretty good to me especially because a one bedroom apartment here is at about $1300 CAD/month. Ouch...
+TrevorandKian 640 USD = 894.528 CAD cheapest one bedroom in my town. Old units maybe 20-30 yrs old. Next to a trailer park.
Hi Ned. 10 000 pesos rent for this apartment is okay. Yet there will be issues with privacy and noise. Two years ago, we rented a two story house in Camella subdivision in Lipa City for the same money. It was a well secured place with at least ten security guards patrolling around, day and night. A master bedroom and two bedrooms with two toilets and baths. A small front lawn for gardening. It was ideal for us yet there were lots of dogs barking and had noisy neighbors. Also the house is built close to each other like few yards away. It was like 10 minutes to the city and then we moved to a house which is 30 minutes away from the city. Big difference in travel time. Love it here without neighbors close by. Our nearest neighbor is like 20 meters away. No neighbors on the back side and left side of the house. It really gives the privacy we need. I hope you will find a better place to stay. FYI, like your present house. Big front lawn and lots of greens.
+Amor L Thanks for that, Sir Amor. Camella here is jokingly referred to as "Ca-smella" due to its proximity to the dump. When the wind is coming from a certain direction, you can really smell it!
+Philippine Dreams I am a woman Ned. 😂 Oh that is bad. So far Camella here is the most populated subdivision here. In case someone needs a place where she won't be alone then this is the perfect place.
beautiful woodwork
Very nice little house.
Not too shabby. Pig farm behind the building, though.
Not a bad price, the only thing I do not like is that there are no bars on the windows. Those window panes are easy to remove. Good luck on finding the right place.
+Henry Sandoe Those panes are very easy to remove. Only takes literally a minute to make a space big enough to wriggle through.
Very nice and cheap! Thanks Ned for a very informative video as usual.
Oh wow its in Camanjac! My grandfather lives there
wow.. you'll never get that price in Manila. that's pretty good deal.
I very much like
More important than the water pressure is to be sure the resident roosters can properly carry a tune.
that was a nice place and wow clean to
+Jeff D Yep. We have looked at many places that the landlord hasn't even cleaned before showing it - rotten food in the fridge, dirt and grime and once even an unflushed toilet. It boggles the mind. Thanks, Jeff!
I'm amazed at the price.
Electricity is not expensive i run 2 aircons 24/7 and i live in a 3 bed 1 bath 1400 sq foot home power is about $120 or less a month
Thank you. Vick Vapo Rub repels mosquitos etc.
Nice...
Amazing
I have been looking at this on line for a while now ... It has been up for rent for over a month and a half... I am not sure why it has stayed unrented for so long but it looks like one of the nicer places to live at a reasonable price being close to the city.
+Gary Alan You will see the same apartments for rent year after year on olx.com.ph. There's usually a reason why that is.
Cool vid Ned. It's great for 10k. But I sure prefer the privacy of your house on a nice lot. You have much more room to breathe. Well done!
+Terry Tarbeck We have room but can't breathe cuz they are always burning stuff. :(
I don't understand why they use windows from the 50's, Put normal windows in so you can put window units in each window. I've spent time in the Philippines and they do some of the dumbest shit ever. But you gotta love it there and the people are awesome.
This is very, very, informative and tempting! You have done a remarkable job in promoting Dumaguete. I imagine 'real Philippine life' here away from the tourists in Manila. Did you have a Realtor supply you with listings to look at? How would one go about renting, sight unseen, from the U.S.? Yes, I have thought for a while to move there. Now I'm retired! No wife, no kids! ...many more questions! But first, good luck with your health concerns!
Looks good Ned
thats my monthly mortgage in the Philippines,
which has all the necessary accommodations
I would love a mortgage like that...
I don't get why they don't make shower enclosures. I hate the fact that water gets all over the floor and toilet.
+darkage5 I put up a shower rod and curtain!!
Still too small in there and water will still run all over the floor.
I agree. It's disgusting.
The floor lvl aren't equal so you can put rod curtain tho .
The floor lvl aren't equal so you can put rod curtain tho .
Wow didn't know prices were that cheap Parking spots in my neigborhood cost 200$
Really nice
Its a great place I could totally live there, but Pink house does have a cool yard and the kids cruising by.
+Philo in the Philippines I am thinking about a single level apartment in a cool area.......
very nice size
This looks like a great deal. I would be concerned with the security though. I dont want burglar entering my apartment in the middle of the night. I would prefer a security gated community.
+Tommy Huang Or at least security grilles over the windows down to slow/deter would-be thieves.
nice find! but there is always: the rooster
Not a bad little place for the price.
That's a nice place.
Its a nice looking place. Two thoughts come to mind, if the price is 10,000 pesos a month I guess your USD price would fluctuate with the currency rate. As the rate goes up your USD cost would go down a bit. Since you've been in the PI, what is the range of exchange you've seen? Also, without air con that second story will get really hot, been there done that trying to sleep in a second story without AC. As always, look forward to your videos. JD.
+K27fan Exchange has been between 43 and 47 since I have been here. Life here is so inexpensive, though that I don't even notice it. I am going to exchange a good amount this week though. :)
Not a fan of the chopped up duplexes or stairs. That back dirty kitchen is going to be urban jungle, concrete hot ever day and bake the back of the house, forcing high aircon bills. I like the open floor plan you have now and larger kitchen counter area. Besides you have more privacy and yard where you are now also. Why don't you wait till Jessie finishes his new Apartments and move in there. I am sure he would reserve one for you, if you asked. That house near Bud's before looked nice too. Whatever you and Michell decide, I am sure will be the right decision for you both.
+clark henderson Yeah, we'll take our time and try to find the "perfect" place. Thanks, Clark.
Philippine Dreams When I last spoke with Jessie he told me the apts and condos are going to be first class American building materials inside and out and spacious. You may have met up with him when he was in Duma recently.
I've been renting my 5 bedroom 3 bath with a car garage in Malolos Bulacan for same amount.
My niece and daughter stayed there 2 yrs ago
That's good value with the aircon option of course.
+Real Deal Gots to have aircon - the guy I know there actually purchased and installed his own inverter split type. He likes it there.
+Philippine Dreams by the way I use a GoPro hero4 for outside and a brandnew Panasonic camcorder with rode shotgun mic for inside;-)
Just watch out for energy consuming electronics, it can get expensive even higher than your monthly rent. Especially use of aircon in hot weather.
It is a big one, 12500 pesos a month is already cheap....nice..
Wait, let me guess. 15k with the water heater added?
NO ventilation in the CRs?
nice place one unit avaiable..with split aircon
That looks amazing Ned, clean and nice surroundings there. It seems the old place got a bit more land? In any event this is a nice place for a couple maybe with a small child. Good deal!!
+jimmytrapp Yeah, it's pretty nice, but not exactly what I am looking for. We'll find it.....
Nice 👍🏽
nice house it is cheap to 210 month very good price I like that
+Daniel Duguay That's about the average price for a place like that. Older units go for about 7-8 but new units are 10-12.
Good video. thanks. Wonder if it's still this cheap.
On one of your housing tours someone commented that there were many homes there comparable to homes in the States. I would like to see what one of those houses look like. Can you take us to one? Also, in an earlier Vlog you explained how the climate constrains how one decorates, i.e. bare tile floors and no rugs, but as a result the houses I've seen look so bland, and appear rather dark to be in such a sunny place. And speaking of sun, is anyone pushing solar energy there?
+94110mission A "Western" house in the Philippines would be VERY expensive to rent. Also, keeping the sun AWAY from the sides of the house is very important as it will turn into an oven otherwise. No one is "pushing" solar here, but it is available. Some commercial places (malls, etc.) have actually already installed systems. We had one at our place in Dauin - worked great.
I think of the videos of the local children playing in your garden.... I would worry about neighbours there too
Wow that's dirt cheap! We're renting out apartments in Marikina city (NCR) 7,000 php for only 33 sqm. I didn't know it's that cheap in the countryside.
In the capital of the Philippines, such rent is normal.
Anyway, that apartment is really nice.
If you're renting a room, it's possible, but a house or an an apartment with 1 room, no.
Corn Bread
You're the one who's imbecile. I've lived here all my life, I know lots of people who rent, and my family and relatives rent out apartments. You must be talking about tiny and old apartments, or the ones in the mountains, or areas far from the city, for 3k pesos.
They all look alike and old looking!
I COULD BE WRONG BUT I WANTED A VID LIKE THIS BAD, YOU MUST BE PHYSIC
+The Big James Psychic or psycho - take your pick....
Nice looking place for the money, i got a place in cdo and paying 13500 for that but its getting old now, not as nice as that.
who else is from dumaguete here?
Wow walking distance from my place.
realy nice for that price
Hmmm. Your house now seems WAY better. You'll have three other people who could potentially be noisy as all hell. Even the dirty kitchen area is not private. Seriously, your house now seems FAR better. The kitchen in this house consists of a sink and a TINY little counter. Yikers. The whole place looks WAY too small.
Our house here is easily 3 times larger and just a few thousand more (and it's private on 750sm lot). I think you can get more for your money. But worse, the place just looks way too small for you. I know you have more tolerance than me when it comes to some of the noise and everything, but you REALLY have to take the privacy thing into consideration as well as noise levels.
+Mark Sauer I agree on all accounts. The hunt continues!
Go to the subdivision at antipolo
that looks great. how far from the city center, mall, gym, etc ?
Lol I checked apartments in korea and japan and your $210 will only get you half of a bedroom in that appartment in the video
Looked at this place very nice but far from main road or mall. Same old guy sitting put front.
Wow 10K and the smallest kitchen ever. It's worth about 5k max. Also where is the mirror in the kitchen CR? They just build these places hoping to gouge the kano. It's the exact same thing in Pampanga just at twice the price. I still don't get guys commenting on how great it is. If they spend any time in the P.I. they would know exactly what a rip-off this place is. The place was super tiny and the C.R.'s were not to western standards. I bet 10 billion pesos they don't rent this place. A smart kano would run unless they are super poor.
Could you be happy with no water heater? That would make a cold shower. Things I take for granted in the US.
+Douglas Thompson I will never live without a water heater in the shower. Never! :)
Philippine Dreams It sounds like you made a great life there. I, unfortunately, will have to remain in the rat race. I'll just live vicariously through you. Hope you don't mind. :)
Does this place:
- Have ability to get high speed internet (cable/dsl)?
- 2,500k a month for the aircons. There are 4 rooms including the living room. Is that what you get?
+Mark K It has internet access. Aircons are just for two of the bedrooms upstairs.
Hi Ned, I've been a subscriber for awhile now and must have missed why you are moving. I thought you guys were happy with the place you have now. What's the reason for the move?
+Teal Thoman The dogs in our neighborhood have gotten really bad. It's really starting to get to us. We'll keep looking.
+Philippine Dreams I see, good luck in your search. Thank you for your reply.
Nice, I suppose, interesting, that they have zero kitchen counter space,
+Phil and Lyra Yeah, just a little bit....
whats the chances of finding a place around there without roosters crowing every morning
Its unbelievable how they allow that. You don't even need a rooster to get eggs from a hen! I experienced the same thing in Phuket. Unbelievable, right beside the hotel. Its pure insanity. Welcome to the 3rd world. The only answer is a ventilated, sound proofed/deadened sleeping enclosure. Earplugs do not work well enough.
I think Canada is at least 5 times more expensive than Philippines
one big plus is you don't have your current noisy neighbour. :) New life with wife should include new digs.
renting out at 10k /mo ... unfurnished? what about free electric bill?
Chickens screaming in the background is my abiding memory of Phils outside Metro Manila where the traffic and pollution would kill them.
You're becoming Filipino instead of saying restroom you're saying CR,which only Filipinos say.
Wha
I like the earth tone paint inside also. Wish the outside front wasn't so exposed. How about that salesman service by the boss! At least it's better than some dude bullshitting about an inferior product.
how close is it to fields or walking street in angeles city?? on foot if possible or by taxi
it reminds me of PR.. almost the same ..
I can rent a locker with 200$
You can't buy this ? Only rent ?
This apartment was okay it could use a stove a tall refrigerator in the kitchen and if I had my own place I will want all downstairs hot upstairs I do live in the apartment but I'm paying $589 plus gas bill so that's around $600 something in for seeing something like this for $200 and something that's right up my price range but I would like to have my apartment or house all on one level
my budget is around Under P7k
This still available
Damn, that's cheap. How far is that from the beach or to downtown Dumaguete?
That is a very nice place for $210.00 USD . That would be about $272.00 CDN, so it's about a quarter of the cost of the one bedroom apartment we have here in Ontario, Canada.
Hi, how many sq. meter or sq. ft is the size of one unit. Thanks.
Your a lucky guy living there in your 40s!!! no commitments in the states No children right?? The apt looks good I would pay the extra 2000 pesos for aircon for sure!! We have small house in Leyte bigger plans down the road for us after we I kick but with work here lol and I am about your age 45 47ish!1 Good luck Happy apt looking.
wow in the u.s. looks like 1,000 u.s. dollar a month rent place. now if you move into this place and 3 days later the people next door start a charcoal business, Ned just has bad mojo following him around.
+Jeremy Parsons LOL on the charcoal. Or a piggery. Ya never know...... Thanks, Jeremy.
Whats with all the bars and high fences? Is it for privacy or security?
Security. Got to have it.
your pink house is better , its looks to small
+Edward Gonzalez I do like Pink House. It's like mold - it's grown on me.....
for only $200.00 Dollars
PH is so cheap. This place in Costa Rica would go for $6-700. Also the prices for food compared to Costa Rica are very cheap.
+Manuel Calvo Yep, life here can be very cheap. ;) Thanks, Manuel.
+Manuel Calvo $6,700 whaaattt the fudge?
