They did the flashbacks as cartoons to show that Noir has the brain of a child now and sees the world like a child. They also did it to show the brutality and have the characters as animals to show them as metaphors. Like how Noir is the black sheep of the group and such
And to save the budget of course........

I feel like the violence is exaggerated because it's animated in a very childish way, we're so used to violence in this show that the only way to shock the audience at this point is go somewhere else with it
@Table Salt nope not true, Noir was shown to have imaginary cartoon friends in the original comic. And, again, 2D animation is insanely expensive, doing that scene in live action would’ve been a no brainer in terms of budget (especially as younger versions of the whole team had been cast for Mallory’s flashback which dovetails directly into Noir’s one)
@Table Salt animation is expensive 2d or 3d someone or people had to animate every frame that takes a lot of time and money they clearly changed his character from the comics lol he was literally just a clone of homelander instead they made him his own character it was a unique way of telling a backstory instead of the same shit

Had the same reaction to the reveal at the end; obvious in hindsight, but didnt see it coming until he mentioned genetics. I think the reason it worked is because they did sucj a good job of keeping their arcs and story lines separate, as well as just not hinting at it at all; any other show would have been dropping hints from day one, but they didn't, and it paid off in spades.

I had to read it a couple times to make sure it really said *last* summer. I wonder if they film in blocks when they have time then slow trickle the content on a schedule. Or maybe editing takes a lot longer than we think lol

Here's the thing a lot of people don't seem to get about fluid, 2D animation: The scenes with the cartoons very likely cost _more_ than shooting it live would have.
Yes animation can be just as expensive but they were also able to save money by crediting the actors in those scenes as voice actors. Add that with the set production, makeup, special effects, etc. The animation was really well done and creative, I just thought those scenes would have been more impactful with live action performances. - Lia
@@lia_fiore Fair enough. Though in the case of Giancarlo Esposito, I'm not sure whether it cost more to have him as a VA, or swap him out entirely for a younger actor like they did previously. Plus, if actors are paid per credited episode, several of them were already present this episode as "full" actors anyway. Additionally, they had already put together everything for the '80s flashback to that exact same moment - so they could have shot the extra footage for Black Noir's POV when they were filming Mallory's flashback.
In any case, it's fine if you think it would have been stronger and more substantial if shot conventionally like the previous flashback to that moment from Mallory's perspective. However, I still disagree with the idea that the animation wasn't what was ideally intended, but specifically used as a compromise to save money. I think it's much more likely that it was entirely within their means to do the scene either way, and the animation was a deliberate choice as an art direction that would have been done regardless of how much money there was to work with.

I see people talking about the costs of animation, but I wanted to bring up the choice of the animation with Noir's own flashbacks; I really like it, it was a creative way to show what has happened between him and Soldier Boy while showing exactly how these things play out in his mind.
That being said, seeing it live action would have been cool too (especially Soldier Boy being jumped), but I think I prefer the choice of animation in this case.
I liked the animated flashback with Black Noir and the animated character around him at the present time. It is a way to show how he view the world and tried to cope. His brain got damaged in the fight and does not function normally. He can't speak and see the word differently with cartons he remembers as his best friend. I did not look at it as a way to save money but it is there for artistic reasons.

Soldier Boy is Homelander's father. Who's his mother? One theory is Stormfront is his mother. She can fly and withstand his eye beams. It also makes Stormfront even creepier, but does explain her obsession with him and Ryan. She wanted to rise Ryan because he is her grandson.

I find it kinda harsh how everyone is giving shit to butcher and hughie for taking v (temp v), and then praising kimiko when she wants her powers back to protect frenchie, when, even if poorly executed, hughie just wants to protect Annie, and as MM said, their objective in the first place, is that nobody should have that kind of power. Yet nobody seems to see the contradiction here.
It’s because Hughie clearly isn’t doing it just to protect Annie he’s doing it because he likes the power it brings, he even says so when confessing he took it to Annie

The show creator Eric Kripke said "To us as the writers, we might be running contrary to what the viewers want, but the writers always feel like it’s weird to us. We felt like, OK, we have to have the kiss so we can have the characters try it and then decide that it’s still weird to them. So we had to do it, but it felt weird to the writers, too. Like when we have them kiss, to me, that’s like two siblings kissing or it’s like a gray area, I guess."

I'm glad the showrunners don't listen to critcisms to get rid of the gratuitous sexual content or whatever else. I like how crazy it is and another way it sets itself apart from all the watered down MCU/dceu heroes. People citicised GoT for the nudity, then in HotD instead of bewbs n buts we just got multiple graphic miscarriages and like one booty.
The timeline is consistent for Stormfront to be the mother... 😂
The cartoons were made because the soldier boy actor thought beating up children would be too horrible for him to act as a parent, so they came to a compromise where he would voice over the cartoon

the cartoons are not done because its budget issue it is done because when soldier boy injured noir,noir brain was stuck as child and he remember all is life story and stores them in form of cartoons in his brain,its part of story
I truly don't understand why people think it's messed up for A-train to have Blue hawk's heart. Correct if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure an internal organ can't be racist. If I'm dying from a kidney failure and the doctor was like "were gonna give you a new kidney but it's the kidney of a pedo, you really think imma be like "nah"?
