    Shannon hit the nail on the head - Organizational change in philosophy is desperately needed in LA. The depressing part is that change seems super unrealistic unless the team face plants and collapses entirely. This management group / coaching staff truly believes defense is the answer to everything and the way to win championships. The Kings love players like Moore, Danault, Foegele, Lewis, Anderson, Gavrikov, and Edmundson - defensively responsible players with limited offensive upside - "safe" players who are low risk but also low reward. It's part of why they choose to scratch their best offensive defenseman in Clarke as soon as Doughty is back. In the Kings eyes - Clarke is 'too risky'. It's also why a player like Fiala is struggling. And why PLD struggled so much last year. They force this "defense first" structure on players and seriously handcuff the team's offensive potential in the process. The frustrating part is the team itself is actually fairly solid. On one hand, maybe they could fix things with a decent trade or two. But on the other hand, even if they brought in some outside help to boost the team offensively - Who that really make a difference if they're still playing the same "defense first" Kings hockey?? Or would you just end up frustrating / handcuffing the players you acquire?? Very weird spot for the Kings right now.

    Literally EVERY SINGLE JANUARY, the Kings forget how to play competent hockey and proceed to free-fall and collapse.

      At least it’s not actually as bad as last year’s 3-13 dumpster fire that got TMac fired. And most of our remaining games are at home. I think they’ll get it together again after the four nations break, but it’s definitely a weird curse with this team that they just completely forget how to score goals for a painful stretch somewhere between December and January

    Kings Defense first is admirable but it has no doubt capped many of their players upside. When there’s slumps, it’s REALLY noticeable. Moore and Danault have been egregious to watch. Benching Turc and playing Lewis in a must score situation is also puzzling.

    • @hughjainisis1683
      @hughjainisis1683 5 дней назад +2

      Of all the things that anger me, it’s the fact that “vets” like Lewis can perennially be horrible, but turc and Clarke and the young guys, who are consistently better, will get benched for the smallest mistake.

    • @DrBeerGames
      @DrBeerGames 4 дня назад +1

      @@hughjainisis1683 100%... It's so concerning because I'm SURE the younger players have caught on to this as well. Hiller basically KILLED Clarke's confidence with some of the comments he made to the media earlier in the season. The level of accountability is completely different for young players than it is for vets and that's terrible from a culture perspective.

    • @hughjainisis1683
      @hughjainisis1683 4 дня назад +1

      @@DrBeerGames yup spot on Clarke was point per game when the Kings were rolling, and you have to allow a guy like that to grow into a better D man. Yes there’s gonna be some mistakes, but his upside will compensate rather than forcing him into the role of a shutdown first dman, which is not what he was drafted for. Case in point Durzi. Some defensive lapses, but very dynamic offensively and on the power play. Sold him for a second and before he was injured was a first pairing defenseman on Arizona. Kings front office needs to be cleaned out.

      In 2012, the Buffalo Sabres extended the parking lot of the formerly named HSBC arena. In a controversial and sketchy deal, they managed to acquire a piece of property adjacent to the existing lot to build the new extension. That land was purchased from the Iroquois First Nation and was sacred to them, and we violated it by building a parking lot over top of it. What we are experiencing is a classic "indian burial ground curse" situation. According to local sports media, Terry Pegula has been seen with a Raven-feathered dream catcher hanging from the rear view mirror of his Dodge Caravan as a way to try and appease the Raven spirit and lift the curse.

    I don’t want to discredit how poorly the offense is performing, but one thing to keep in mind is that 8/10 of those games are away games. The Kings had (up until now) an above average road record, but I’m not surprised it has caught up to them. They have only 19 home games and 30 road games (for comparison we’ll play tomorrow at Carolina who will have their 27th home game).
    So while I wish the offense would show up and we got through this stretch a more reasonable 5-5-1 or something, I’m not going to worry about making the playoffs just yet. There are a lot of home games left for the Kings. GKG

    We are a team that is ok with being ok. Every time we have a chance to be better we make a trade to make us ok again.
    This team kills all offensive talent players have because we only want defense games, we keep trying to make players into a new kopi/drew when it’s just not possible. Like how many guys have we shipped out that go on and light it up in other places, and what do we get? Nothing or bad returns. Faber, durzi, Gabe and even PLD are just three of a long list.
    How many teams joke by saying “man we love Blake” because of a lob sided trade.
    The fact we were worried we might trade Clarke is insane, same with benching him. We are a country boy club and it’s a problem.
    Our goalies have been playing fantastic which makes it even more frustrating to watch us let them down, like big save Dave had probably his best game of his career last game and we didn’t score.
    I’d like to be excited for the future because we have QB, Clarke, Greentree, and our trio of good goalie prospects with Portillo, Hammer, and George. Add in guys like Turcotte, akil, Spence, Sammy and older guys like Kempe, Phill etc and we SHOULD be a good team. But I don’t trust this org to make the right decisions and develop our young guys right.

    I wonder if the Kings have the sack to say let's grab a 2C (Granlund?) at the deadline and let Byfield and Danault slot in at 3 and 4 which suits the reality of where they are as players NOW, not the hope we had for where they'd be. Lombardi and Sutter had the sack to do that in 2014 with Mike Richards. They took no pleasure in it, but they did it, and they reaped the benefits. If the Kings honestly expect to be a Cup contender this season, and they should because Blake's contract is up, they need to put all of the denial and the kid gloves for veterans aside. This team needs a shot in the arm, and they need a shot of meritocracy.

    I don't believe the Kings have any concerns when it comes to making the playoffs. They are an amazing home team, and by some bizarre scheduling disaster they've only played 19 home games, compared to 31 road games!! Both Calgary and Vancouver lack the consistency this season to BOTH push LA out. Not to mention, Drew Doughty's return, which isn't a small thing. Sure he's been rusty but he'll shake it off. LAs only problem is the first round matchup they have, they're going to be in tough once again for the 4th straight year regardless of whether it's Edmonton or Vegas they are facing.

      They're two points ahead of Vancouver, one point ahead of Calgary. There should definitely be concerns over the playoffs.

      @@TheHockeyGuy Yes, if the Canucks and Flames continue to improve then LA could find themselves one wild card spot short of making it. I just think with 22 of their last 33 games at home (with one of the best home records in the league), they'll be able to secure one of those two spots. As you mentioned in a previous video a very cold team could potentially come out of the two week break in a much better state of mind as well. I'm curious whether Rob Blake will make some big moves in the 5/6 weeks left before the deadline (I'm not sure of the Kings cap situation).

      We are close to the cap if not at it. There was a reason why I am so unhappy with paying 4 mil to a bottom pair d man

    Not even bringing how many games they've played on the road versus at home is rather puzzling. This has to be brough up for context, especially given their home record this season. Not only has their schedule been imbalanced this way, they've had two 7-game roadtrips as well while some teams may have a single 6-game road trip as their longest road trip all season. I'm sure fatigued is a part of this lack of production.

    As a diehard Kings this is hard to watch. I love Blakey, but i agree with others that he has made some questionable moves. We need to make a move for a second line goal scoring/ playmaking center. Danault just isnt creating what we need.

    how to ruin a teams season. Be ranked #1 on THG's power ranking. And poop.

    They are the most tedious team in the league, rely almost solely on stopping the other team playing (their goals for 3rd from bottom in the NHL) - I for one will be happy not to watch them in the playoffs

    This is pretty much the story for most teams this year. Hot streaks followed by cold streaks. Thats why we have no clear contenders for the wild card spots.

    Some teams like oilers are good enough to beat the kings shape with brute skill. but kraken, penguins and redwings aren't that amazing. Something isn't working. The defensive shape isn't supposed to let five goals in. Do they forget about their shape when they are losing? Or is the defense starting to show cracks?
