  • Etran Finatawa combine the rich nomadic cultures of the Tuareg and Wodaabe people from the West African country of Niger -- a region that for thousands of years has served as a crossroads between the Arabs of North Africa and the sub-Saharan traditions. Etran Finatawa blend traditional instruments with electric guitars, combining the polyphonic songs of the Wodaabe people with modern arrangements, transporting you to the Sahara with their evocative sound.

As a modern-day consumerist westerner, it's hard to fully grasp the holistic intent of this song, but it resonates beyond ones own experience...and it's as psychedelic as anything I've ever heard. It's like if the Velvet Underground came from some exotic locale..( typical western comparison) .I hope that in the next life I will be blessed with the tools to fully comprehend the freedom they feel while performing this ancient music from the future...

I love this music! I had the honor of seeing them play their music at Festivale International de Louisiane some years ago. Quite a life-changing experience. Their music touched something ancient in my soul, it's very hard to explain.

Toll!

@@TheEternalTriumphant they are speaking a Tuareg language that I don’t understand. I will keep in mind when talking to family to try and fill in the gaps. Surbajo means woman, or madame. Mbada li/mbaale diam good morning or how are you this morning. Diam or jam means peace, nyaale,ñaali diam is mid day greeting as he’s greetings the woman asking her attention excuse me how are you this afternoon and so forth. The Tuareg part I don’t understand in this song.
