Haven't the Grizzlies had about 6 players injured / suspended this season? Pretty much no team can survive that (same is happening to the Lakers right now), and I feel like that's much more of an influence than Smart.

As a Celtics fan who loved Marcus Smart on the Celtics, I still feel bad thinking that Jrue Holiday is just better overall and honestly, kinda better on defense too. Smart was great but his antics and somewhat uncontrolled play style hurt the team at times and even though he was great at hitting clutch shots, he took way too many shots in the final minutes of games when there's Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown alongside him in those minutes 99% of the time. I really like how Holiday is just all business, he doesn't celebrate after dunks, doesn't get hyped up for really anything, and that just keeps the team in line as he's the main point guard most of the time. I loved Smart so much it actual feels like cheating when I think of how good Holiday is, especially when I used to argue that they were basically the same player but Holiday was a bit better on offense (he's actually way better).

I appreciate the stats used to demonstrate Smarts impact, but let’s be serious. The sample size is exceptionally small for a player moving to a new team. If dillon brooks was on the grizzlies still they would be worse, he was out of control and his shooting percentages were on par with Killian Hayes. The only reason Brooks looks good now is because 1. Ime Udoka isn’t gonna let him take the same bs shots any more and 2. He knew he would be out of the league. Smart will improve on A/TO (he is better in this category than Jrue Holiday for instance) and with less usage he will shoot better

Nope. As a Celts fan, most of us in Boston knew that although Smart was one of the league's best defenders, he was a subpar point guard with shoddy ball handling. For rvery eye catching great pass he made, there would be a stupid brainless pass for a big turnover, especially in crunch time. Also while Smart is not a bad scorer, he is not nearly as good as he thinks he is. So in win or lose situations, too often he takes that last shot that Tatum or Brown should be taking. Smart was not an awful player for the Celis. But honestly few of us fans were devastated to see him go.

As a Celtics fan I loved the effort Marcus played with. I hated the decisions he made on offense in big games tho. He truly had a love/hate relationship with the fans. But after watching Marcus get blown by and scored on by the Heat role players all series I knew the Celtics would never win with him as our starting PG. Like you can’t be this lockdown player that’s bad on offense letting Duncun Robinson and Gabe Vincent get layups on you. At that point you’re just detrimental on both sides of the ball. I was excited when we landed a fringe all star talent I was shocked at how fans could even call it a bad deal. Trading Marcus also unlocked Derrick White. And with half a season as a starter I now wonder why Derrick was coming off the bench at all when he is clearly much better on offense than smart and still a great defender. I wish the best for Marcus tho he gave us so many great years just couldn’t get over the hump.

I've been saying for YEARS that Marcus Smart is not as good as everyone thinks, and anyone who would watch the important games would know that Marcus Smart's careless 3-pointers and unnecessary flops ended up costing the Celtics more wins than anything else. This video is awesome lol

As a Celtics fan you genuinely received a fantastic player, saying the grizzlies are purely bad due to smart is such a bad take. It's clearly and injury issue and letting a competent offensive player, Tyus jones walk is what is killing this team. Not too mention any team experiencing a large amount of injuries and suspensions is bound to have some hardships.

Never said it was purely because of Smart, but he is a big piece of it. He's not the player they thought he was going to be in a new role and higher expectations

Those questionable 1st round picks lately starting to catch up to them especially Zaire Williams in the lottery few years ago on top of Roddy & larvia. Needed 1 of the 3 to step up and be a good rotation player probably start to aquire a wing if they don't wanna waste this season

Same roster, replace Smart with Brooks, I highly doubt they’d be much better in the standings or better off in general. Smart is having a slow start on a brand new team when he’s never been anywhere else but Boston. It’s a small sample size, give until all star break.

Problem with this caption is if they really a organization were they will measure seasons on how the post season will be, Marcus smart is there for April. Not December or November. So Marcus was signed to beat teams who have ant from Minnesota, PG from L.A, book from Phoenix, Murray from Denver. Luka from Dallas etc. Soo I understand they have get in first but that's not on smart they had slot of injuries. Morant obviously cause of discipline. So yea u can't measure now, any gm will tell u that .....In beginning of January. Just plain ignorant and un intelligent. But salute to you and yours

I'll echo what a few others have mentioned. The Grizzlies are missing 6 starters and role players one being a generational talent. There is NO team in the NBA that can survive a season playing end of bench players as starters and first off bench guys. Almost all of the games have been close Ja's 26+ppg will get us alot of these wins we're fighting for.
