Damn!!! The new DJI Lidar is awesome!! I just love how it focuses in and out when the subject moves around; somewhat imperfect, but that's the beauty of it.
Great job Ed, I was about to get the full frame Rangers but then these came out, and like you think I’ll go this route. I do like close focussing wide lenses though, might see if I can match a wide close focussing prime with the 17-50 to get started. The Focus pro looks amazing. Had one on order since April, still waiting…
I had a shoot a few months back where my 17-50 was stolen and I had to finish the shoot with my Sigma 24-70 Art. What's interesting was when reviewing the interview footage (half on the sigma half on the Laowa) - I think I preferred the Laowa - the sigma was definitely sharper and cleaner (still looked fantastic) - but the Laowa just had more texture and nuance to it. Thankfully my insurance replaced the Laowa and have been reunited again!
@@EdProsser oh that’s too bad, glad your insurance replaced it! I hear what you’re saying about the Sigma. I’d be looking to match the Vespid 12mm or Athena 14mm - in 4k modes my cam has full frame, s35 and pixel to pixel modes, so I can get 3 focal lengths from each prime, which I figure should cover ok up to 17mm s35 if I can get a reasonable match. Let’s see…!
Looks amazing. They seem kind of like the Fujinon MKs but just a bit lighter. I wish Laowa or another manufacturer would bring out a 20-55 for full frame. That 28-75 is just not wide enough.
looks like exactly what I was searching for ...except the fact that there's no EF version, I'd love to pair them with my Revolva, any idea why there's no EF version? the full frame PL set has interchangeable PL/EF mount
These genuinely look great - I had tried the DXO catta zooms a while back and did not like them at all - The flare on these looks excellent. The E stabilisation tip on the s5ii is also genius. Does that work in the Full frame open gate mode and give decent coverage? So rather than cropping into the already cropped s35 frame? That could possibly give you a open gate-esq s35 (I believe the E stabilisation High is like a 1.3/4 crop).
I believe the e-stab doesn't need to crop much more in on S35 mode as it's already cropped in on sensor so has enough room to work. Open gate 6k with e stabilisation set to high also gave a full open gate FOV (just about) only issue with that is you get a much slower sensor read out, so I prefer using S35 mode for faster sensor readout and reduced rolling shutter
@@EdProsser - It looks to me like the E-stab does still crop in a fair whack on high in S35 mode but I totally hear you about the rolling shutter performance! Patiently waiting on word out of the Lumix summit happening in Japan right now. anyway - I'm away to purchase your grading tutorial because I just love this look.
Love this, great video! We have the DZO Pictors 20-55 & 50-125 and are looking for a wider but probably won’t get another Pictor (your thoughts on them are correct). How do you think the 11-18 would look on a EVA-1? /Markus
Great work Ed and Ty, You helped me make the JUMP !! Took my Mk 18-55 rented, and compared the s35 then B&H gave me a fair enough trade toward a Ranger 2set for 17- 130.... QUESTION IS ?? ALL PL ADAPTERS Aren't compatible Can you or ANYONE Advise on Your PL mount or others
All mine have worked but if you're using a rear filter system though you'll have issues. I think the Mofage works. Generally my PL adampters are cheapish ones from Amazon I think the brand is "letrater" or something
Unrelated to the lenses (which look great btw), but it's insane how the grain all but vanishes in 1080p due to compression and then in 1440p it comes right back. The bitrates must be way higher than I thought.
I know, RUclips compression quality has taken a nose dive over the last year, it's a shame, lots of my older videos now like ok pretty ropey, even in 4k the quality just isn't there any more. I'm sure they will start launching a 4k premium tier to their paid service soon.
What nd setup did you use either these lenses? I own a Komodo x Do you know they are working with the kipper tie revolva? Either ef to rf or pl to rf? Thank you
@@EdProsserdo you think it is possible to use “behind the glass nds” ? They look like they go quite deep inside the body which might make it difficult. Or it is the final call to pull the trigger on the red Komodo e-nd which costs more than one of these zooms 😂😬 I shoot often solo (without an ac) on my fashion photo shoots some image clips without a matte box just out of the hand. Happy to keep it easy.
@@EdProsser Thank you so much 🙏🏻 Seems like they will only work if you go over the ef mount. Specially the 50-130 looks quite long behind the bayonet. However that part is called :)
I really wish that all test footage for lenses wasn't as graded as they tend to be. Hard to judge a lens characteristics without knowing exactly was done in post.
I always include some REC 709 footage in there with the more controlled lens tests - but also want to show what the lenses are capable of in the context of a professional project. There are other channels who will give you lab style tests, I don't have the resources for that - I'm showing real world use and what I can achieve with the equipment - and how it inspires me to create certain images.
Love all the areas you cover for practical use. Great job, as always.
Thanks man
We love Ed
Awesome video and lenses! Was great fun playing around with them with the focus pro with you!
Thanks so much for bringing along the focus pro! Still searching on a daily basis for one!
Damn!!! The new DJI Lidar is awesome!! I just love how it focuses in and out when the subject moves around; somewhat imperfect, but that's the beauty of it.
It's great! We didn't have it perfectly calibrated, so I think I bit more time to set it up properly would solve some of that.
Look forward to a comparison test with the DZOFilm Pictor Zoom set.
These lenses are beautiful. The zoom range is incredible. Ah man that focus pro looks great.
Yeah if only the damn thing wasn't out of stock everywhere, damn it DJI!

I love your content. I'll be picking up the set as well.
I had a play around with these yesterday at the Media and Tech Production show. They felt really nice, especailly the 17-50mm
The 17-50 will be a great workhorse lens for a lot of people! The size of them is just fantastic.
Looks amazing.

I feel like there might be a wider FF zoom coming down the line
16-30mm t2.9 will be released soon. And it’s smaller than the other full frame lenses

Yes there are EF mounts available, the mounts are also user interchangeable too which is cool! So you can use pretty any mirrorless mount as well.
Epic review like always can i ask in 8:02 is komodo or lumix? so amazing image
That's Komodo!

Yeah haven't tested it precisely, planning a vid on firmware 3.0 updates but... lack of time!

what lenses did you use for the vlog shots and the product shots?
Mostly the LUMIX S 18mm

Just when I am about to drop the cash on dzo14-30 these pop up
I think these are a much smaller alternative to the DZO pictors
