- The third of four films charting the development of the new town and produced for the EK Development Corporation and restored from the South Lanarkshire Council Archive.
Released in 1972 the film reuses much footage from the first two but also records the construction of the Daer reservoir and the arrival of the 12,000th family rehoused from Glasgow.
My parents moved us to a newly built Elm Place, Greenhills on my 6th birthday in Sept 1974. This brings back many memories of the six years we lived there.
I was proud to be born and brought up in EK. Now I am ashamed, angry and embarrassed at its decline and decay.
Scottish Screen Archive says this is 1977, not 1972 (which ties in with footage e.g. Plaza shopping centre wasn't open until 1975).
What you say is correct David - I am not sure if I have simply typed the wrong date or if the original copy of the film from the South Lanarkshire Archive came with that date, I will check.
East Kilbride - Gone To The Dogs.
now it is a toilet. with more and more green space being eaten up, for "posh" housing even the hamlets of thorntonhall and jackton are being destroyed.and bit by bit they are moving nearer eaglesham ,why oh why do we stand back and watch south lanarkshire council and large housebuilders ruin our precious countryside.i defy you to find an unfenced area with the exception of calderglen to run your dog,.
