- Create an action that will watermark images of both portrait and landscape orientation with a uniform size and placement. This tutorial was created using Photoshop CS6 but these functions are backward compatible with most versions of Photoshop that have come out in recent years. I hope this helps!

This is seriously one of the best short cuts ever! Thanks!
Thanks alot Joseph. Nothing beats a clear well spoken tutorial.
Worked fantastically with my existing watermark, with the minor change to a square. The *place* function was my missing step all these years.
Thank you
Dude, this was the most useful tutorial for me since I've started working in Photoshop CS6 . Really appreciate it and good job doing it !
Thanks for sharing your technique. This is much faster than my previous one and I don't have to have separate folders for landscape and portrait orientations.
Great Video! I watch it often as a reminder, direct and to the point. Thank you, Keep it up!
The greatest watermark logo tutorial on youtube ! Thank you Joseph Brewster !
Finally, found something that worked for me. Thanks for being so clear and concise.

Great video. The only thing i need to know now is how to make a watermark that has to be saved. That would really help me!!

GENIUS! I love the way you think, sir :) I will need to make a square background for my logo (I think I'll try a .png w a translucent background and just nudge w the arrows), but I like how you created one action for both landscape and portrait images. Simply brilliant. Keep em comin'...
Excellent tutorial and very useful tips. Worked very nice. Thanks a lot.
You done good , first person I could understand , worked fine for me . Thank you !!

I never comment on RUclips videos but this is UBER Supahlicous helpful. Thanks!
I recorded the action and it worked perfectly! Thanks.
Most useful tutorial. Was wondering if we have to create a separate action for each file size that we deal with?
Great tutorial! Thanks!
Excellent! Thank you for letting me know the results!
I never post to RUclips, but this time. Thank You!
+ARIS SEPP You're welcome!
This was exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Great!
Thx for this! I always end up with watermarks positioned all over the place on my biz product images smh. This is great!!!
Very useful! I never comment on this kind of tutorial video, you r epic :)
Thanks heaps. Helped a lot.
Thanks for this. Saved me a lot of time!
Thanks so much! It was a great tutorial!
Nice pictures!
brilliant! this has just made my day
This is everything I've ever dreamt of
Thats great. I wanted to know how to do a batch edit once I am done making the action....
But what if your landscape picture is a crop and therefor not exactly the same size as the standing picture. It works perfect but not when my standing picture has more pixels. The logo appears smaller on my standing picture then it does on my landscape picture. Would love some help on that since I have been searching for an answer to this for a long time. My picture all varie much in ratio and sizes.
This is why it is important to make sure 4 things (1) Logo file is square (2) Logo file is PSD (3) Logo file is larger than your original picture (4) Place the logo. If you follow those things, this technique should work. If you have access to Lightroom, there is a much easier way to do this using Lightroom's watermark feature, which is what I currently use
This is whats happening to me
@@josephbrewster3391 doesn't need to be psd. png does the same thing.
Thanks much......Worked well but I could not get the arrow keys to "move" my watermark?? Photoshop CC, Mac
Best tutorial. Thanks a lot.
thank you for this explanation, which font you use at Joseph Brewster photography>
Great video, thanks!
You are a star thank you so much
I got to the last step in creating the action using PS CC but I couldn't move my logo where I wanted to by tapping the arrow keys.
Any suggestions?
Great tutorial! I always knew how to use actions but never how to place in same place everytime. One question though, my version of PS (v7.0
Can you identify any differences between the ones that didn't work right and the rest? Since the layer is placed by the coordinance of the selection, that would be the source of your variations. Perhaps a crop value is involved? It's hard for me to tell without more information.
Awesome! Got me the best and most perfect watermark tx to you! Tx and cheers.
Please help... I'm using the latest PhotoShop CC, and there's no 'Place' option. I have 'place embedded' and 'place linked' but both options are placing a smaller logo in the centre of the image, even though the logo is square and larger than the image.
I have Photoshop CS6, version 13.0.6 x64, but I don't have the "Place" option under the "File" menu. Do you know how I can get it (or get it back)? Am I missing an update perhaps? Thanks.
i know this is 3 years ago but it's 'place embedded' lol
I needed this tutorial! Thank you!
I am having one issue...when my logo is placed on landscape oriented photos, it’s bigger than in portrait oriented photos. It’s not a square logo but ...any tips?
Is there a way to save the action once created?
Using photoshop CC: though the action is applied correctly after hitting play, after each picture photoshop asks me where to save it and it saves in .psd by default. Can't it close them saving them automatically to a folder of my choice?
Thank you for the video!
By the way... Forwards compatible*
Just GREAT!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!
yes it's from 2013, but anyway THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! Help a lot
VERY GOOD BRO!
Why is it essential to rasterize the watermark before scaling? It was my understanding that there is a higher probability for quality loss when scaling a raster image as oppose to a vector image.
I think it does not matter because when you rasterize the image in this tutorial you are not going to increase the size. thus no risk of losing quality. A vector image is great when you might be increasing the size in the future.
I think :D
Is there a way that I can add color to the logo that is suitable for each picture separately?
Sorry for the late reply. You could either use a blend mode (such as overlay) for the watermark, or have several different colored watermarks with an action for each, then just run the action with the color you want.
thak you very much it save a
lot of time for me
I do not have the "place" option under File, only options for me are: place embedded and place linked... what do I do?
Place Embedded
Correct!
Dude there is something really wrong with my settings somewhere!
This doesn't work for me. :( I have been using Photoshop for 7 years and like to think I am pretty good at it. Worked out how to do this without the tutorial but wasn't working properly. The size I am getting on the portrait is way smaller every time! So i head on over to check out what others are doing and its the same and yet it works for you guys!?? I'm at my whits end.
Could it be how I pre processed the sizes of my images b4 hand? I always batch file my web ready images by using File -> Scripts -> Image Processor then set my size to fit at 1600px x 1600px (this does not make them squire but its action is to make the longest edge of ether orientation 1600px). Could this be messing with my logo placement???
Awesome! Thanks!
+theretherekitten No problem!
Very well done. So I don't have to spend $199 for Studio Zap. Thanks.
nice i needed that
sorted! these few photos which it doesn't worked for me were much bigger than logo :) logo is 6500x6500 in px... photo was 7100x5600 :) :)
So I convert my logo to 8000x8000 and now everything looks alright
Do you happen to have a file of your watermark or instructions on how to create the one you used. I would like to make my own, but wasn't sure how to do this. thanks!
This works when i do them one by one but does not work in Batch mode for me. What steps should i take to make it work there?
Declan Bethley Can you provide more info? I use it in batch and have no issues
I cannot seem to bump it? it wont move, what am i doing wrong
Brilliant thanks so much. Couldn't get the arrow keys to move the box and I flattend image so it was a jpg before stopping action. Nevertheless its great, thanks
Arrrgghh What do you mean by Bump the arrow keys?? Sorry Ive read through all the comments googled the hell out of it and cant find it? Thank you so much for the other info though, Ive watched this like 1k times now lol. Just the bumping part I need to understand. Im using a mac pro? Thanks Sarah ;) X
Oops dont answer that. I just needed to "Free Transform"again! Thank you ;) xxx
Thank you!!!
I would like to say that this is fucking awesome
You save my life Thanks M8 :D
Спасибо! Напомнил как это делается.
I'll be in 40 minutes at home :) I'll show you this
Wooh it worked Nice thanks :)
solid!
how do you do the 2nd part of this tutorial if your logo HAS BLACK in it?
If you create a transparent PNG, you can use it with either black or white, and for darker colors you can set the layer mode to multiply
thanks :)
enjoy
m8 - not every time! I made exactly with you instructions. Made it few times for sure... 99% photos are correct, but on few it set watermark little lower :( I just simply move it upper by arrows, but why it happen??
This tutorial is what I would call "the shit".
That comment made my day. :)
Beauty, thanks. Stupid Photoshop. When you place an image and set the X and Y Coordinates it should use those coordinates instead of converting that to a "translate" function in the action. Adobe needs to give their heads a shake.
help me tho. thx :)
OMFG, Don't forget to SET THE IMAGE RESOLUTION for each image or you will pull your fucking hair out trying to figure out why your watermark won't come in at the correct size for different images >:-(
