The Philippines National Security Council is in the process of releasing an updated Philippine map that emphasizes the country's maritime entitlements, aligning with the 2016 arbitral ruling and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The new standard map, aimed at countering China's 10-dash line map, is essential for defining the extent of Philippine territory open for safe navigation and implementing environmental protection programs, as stated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines. This has created tension between China and the Philippines which have sharply escalated in recent months over territorial disputes in the South China Sea that has drawn in the United States.

Sabah has always been part of the Philippines. The Sultan of Sulu just leased it to the Brits to be returned when they left.

Bc of the tension between Indonesia, Philippines and malaysia about their claims over sabah and sarawak,, the British decided to do a vote and let the people of sabah and sarawak decided. 2/3 of the entire of sabah and sarawak favoured into the creation of malaysia and decided to join them.
