    I can always get out of my driveway easily without stalling or having a wheelspin. But when i’m approaching a red light my legs get all shaky when cars are tailgating me. 🤣

      Same here! I'm trying to be patient with myself. Thankfully no one has been a prick to me about it-so just gotta remember that it's no big deal to restart the car and try again ^_^ I found for me it's mostly been nerves and forgetting to keep my feet still when finding that sweet spot between bite point and gas

    I had my sixth driving lesson last week, where I learned to stop at traffic lights. My car stalled the first time and I got beeped at so much by the cars behind me while I hurriedly tried to find the biting point. I also got screamed at by a bus driver for driving round him to get to the lights as he had only just indicated he would turn out of his lane and the car in front of me drove past him too. He overtook me when the light was red, whereas we were side-by-side before. I have my next lesson in an hour and am going to try and replay your instructions in my head. 😄

My car is a little more powerful than the car my instructor has. So the first few days I was over revving even slightly my car roared 😂 don't do that no more but the clutch is alot higher and I can't plant my heels in like I used to as my pedals are higher 🙄 but slowly getting used to it. Might have another go at readjusting my seating position to see if that helps for my heel to be able to plant on the floor.

Try finding the biting point while the hand brake is on and get used to how it feels, once you get used to how the engine lurches, sounds and where your feet are when you have found the biting point it will become easier and easier! Remember driving is a life long thing so you dont need to rush to be perfect at it! You will get there!

    question! okay so when i reach a light and i have stopped and haven’t put on my hand break and i need to set off again. i would normally just slowly release my foot off the clutch so i’m guessing i need to put my foot on the accelerator. However, i’m scared by not having the hand break on that if i put my foot on the accelerator with my foot on the clutch i’m scared i’ll jutt forward.

    I drive a stage 3 clutch on my 350z. So I actually do have to rev a LOT to get it going because the bite point is so dang aggressive that if I miss it by a second it stalls. • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  4 года назад +4

      Don't give up! Do the technique of finding the biting point a few times before you drive off. You'll get used to it. It's just muscle memory. The biting point in all cars is different due to age of the clutch and the car in general. Try and drive it round the block a few times until you get used to the bite, and don't forget the gas if the car is petrol!

  • @SlimRatStalone
    @SlimRatStalone 4 года назад +1

    I hear conflicting info - some people say DON'T give the car gas while the clutch is pressed. They say to start rolling, you just need to let off the clutch slowly without pressing the throttle. However, my car will stall if I don't give it gas while shifting to first, so I use the technique you show here. Why do people say different things? And is it really not hurting the clutch for you to rev it to 1.5-2k while standing still?

    • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  4 года назад +3

      Good question! It's the difference between petrol and diesel. In a diesel you can easily get the Car moving with just the clutch and no gas. In a petrol it will probably stall so you need to use 1.5-2k revs for a smooth pull away. It sounds like you have a petrol car. And no it's not hurting the clutch at all to build the revs before setting off!!

    I've heard conflicting messages some say holding at biting point for too long while stopped at a light is slipping the clutch and could burn it out quicker, is this method good for regular driving or for the beginning only?

    • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  4 года назад +2

      Holding at bite for ages will overheat your clutch and it smells horrible. When you're first starting out try finding the biting point a few times. It doesn't move. Then you've got it in your muscle memory. Once you get confident you'll be able to see the amber light, before green, and have it ready by the time the green light comes on! If you're in your instructors car don't worry about sitting at the bite on a red light, to be ready, if they tell you to. It's to take the pressure off the hill start.

    • @schweizerd6303
      @schweizerd6303 4 года назад +1

      @@DrivingSchoolTV thanks for clearing that up! =) Btw the technical term for the amber before green phase is referred to as the "starting amber" by traffic engineers just learnt that the other day. When i have the handbrake on for some reason I can’t feel my cars biting point with the clutch anymore

    • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  3 года назад

      Because the handbrake only works on the rear wheels and you probably have a front wheel drive car. You should still be able to hear the engine noise dip and the car grumble

    So we can keep our feet on the crust while slowing down to stop and when stop ? I got told that not to keep my feet on it while stopping at traffic light.
    Thanks in advance for the answer

    • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  3 года назад +2

      If you keep your clutch down it’s fine! For long periods you might want to go into neutral and take your foot off the clutch but only to give your leg a rest. The only thing you shouldn’t do for long periods is keep your clutch at the biting point- this wears out the clutch a bit

    • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  4 года назад +2

      It's a common problem for sure! It's so much easier to teach in a diesel but if your first car is petrol it's a nightmare! I hope this video helps him understand the difference!

      @@rw6391 Have him practice finding the bite point over and over in an empty parking lot without using the gas at the same time, once he can successfully consistently get the car started in first with no gas, then have him start adding gas while doing it. I bought a manual car in the end of August, with this method I was driving everywhere and stalling once a day if that. The major issue sometimes is anxiety mixed with trying to do multiple things at the same time that you aren't use to. Learn clutch muscle memory first, then accelerator control for the adequate amount of RPMs required. It may be frustrating for your son now, but he will be laughing shortly saying it's easy.

    can u bring clutch upto biting point when hand brake on and in first gear?

    • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  4 года назад +1

      Yep it's a very effective technique for hill starts. Don't bring the clutch passed bite though or it will stall

  • @themadgamer9831

    Didn’t think you could hold the clutch on the bite point for this long?

    • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  3 года назад

      Holding the clutch at the bite for extended periods will wear it out a bit faster. If you're in your instructors car or an old car your mum and dad have got you to practice in then i wouldnt worry about it. In 3/4 lessons you'll have got the hang of the biting point and will be able to set off smoothly without holding for too long. It's all about bringing it back to basics and perfecting the technique in slow time before you try and drive like lewis hamilton.

    A diesel car is very helpful to learn the bite point of the clutch.
    A petrol car is bitchy because it will stall out almost immediately

      Yeah I always heard that keeping hold of the clutch at the biting point over and over again in that manner will lead to wearing the clutch out sooner rather than later.

    • @DrivingSchoolTV
      @DrivingSchoolTV  4 года назад

      Once you get good at it you can minimise the time you're at the biting point. A couple of seconds won't make the clutch hot and burn it out. There's really no other way to avoid rolling back on a hill. Even when you're setting off on a flat road you're at the biting point with the clutch plates rubbing for at least half a second if you're quick!

    You should be a Police instructor, and a part time clairvoyant. You clearly know more than them, and you knew instinctively why they positioned behind you as they did. Let's hope that if and when you require their assistance they drive to the letter of the law, even if that means they're late or don't even get there.
    Is it possible there was something happening on the pavement? In a shop? They'd seen a suspect and edged forward to get a better view? etc etc etc. Perhaps not judging them, and understanding that they have a job to do might be a start. As for the mates, Uber drivers and the rest that have licences that you think shouldn't be on the road, bear in mind who sanctioned that.....The DVSA examiner.
