    Head Dampening Update (28:55): After test flying with the softer dual o-ring head dampening arrangement, I decided to try using the hard inner dampeners with the softer outer o-ring dampeners as per the manual. No cyclic nodding or bobbing detectable at low head speeds, so it seems to work fine mixing the hardness.

    Thank you for the hundreds of videos over the last decade. On this video ….. what a nice idea to give a review of each step. Your engineering setup and attention to detail is fantastic. I thought I was going mad spending the time to set everything up just right with shims, lube and lock-tight. But that’s what it takes to do it right.

    Please consider doing a review of the ALZRC X360 (not X380 they are two different helicopters). Bare airframe is around $90 and uses a lot of plastic with CF frame sides to keep the price down. Head has plastic grips with an aluminum hub.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  3 года назад +2

      Sorry, no idea on how well SAB parts might or might not fit it; I've only purchased a few parts for it over the past two years, and they were all ALZRC parts. I had no problem ordering the parts from Banggood (where I purchased the heli from), and I've also seen ALZRC parts on ebay. No idea what other hobby shops might also carry ALZRC since I've never looked.

    • @nutz4media

      Some parts from SAB fit fine, some don't. I can tell you that the SAB canopies fit, not sure about tail boom. It looks the same to me but I haven't tried it. I have tried tail parts and the pitch arms are different ball size so you have to replace balls. I wound up just replacing the whole tail assembly with a Goblin 500 tail. It fits the ALZRC shaft fine. I'd like to try to find a list (or start my own) of compatible items. I have both a G500 and this. As time allows, I'll try various parts and post a list somewhere.

    Hello, just finish the assembly of mine. When going through the FBL unit setup, if I put a BLS servo for the tail (760µs, 333Mhz) like you did, it doesn't work with my alzrc bls2036t. I mean, the servo is not responding correctly, I must put the cursor to the max and the servo doesn't repond smoothly and correctly. One the other hand, when I put "s9254, etc." for tail servo in vbar software (1520µs, 333Mhz), it works correctly. Don't you think it weird ?

    You mentioned having to secure the flange bearings in the main gear hub with retainer, but not the one-way bearing...? The flange bearings on my D380 hub resisted removal without tools so I didn't try harder to pull them, but it seems ensuring the one-way is properly retained would be most critical as that's how torque is transmitted from the gear to the bearing. I guess if I can hold the head and torque the gear with moderate force by hand without slippage, it's good to go...? Likewise, I'm wondering whether I should try to pull bearings from the swash to add retainer or just settle for thread-locking the screws. ALZRC's own build video does not show securing any bearings with retainer, but the manual does. Great videos - thanks for sharing. I originally learned FFF on CP helis with help from your RCHelicopterFun site 8 years ago!

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  4 года назад

      One way bearings are press press fit in to the gear hubs - lots of force - so no need to remove it and refit it with retaining compound unless you have a press and want to make more work. You'll know if the auto-bearing ever start slipping as the heli will begin to "scream" in flight under high disc loading. I don't have any working experience with the D380 so no idea on the swashplate.

    Hey John. I started flying helo's in the late 70's-early80's then stopped flying for about 20 years. I just watched your video on the Hobby Wing ESC with the programing device. I'm just curious about your linear throttle setting. I mostly use Castle ESC and their govenor mode works well, but in the past on my Schluter helo's and XCELL 60 and PRO helo's I did not use any govenor at all. Is that what you are doing. Hope this makes sense?

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  2 года назад

      Hi Chuck, Correct - no governor. I always want linear throttle response in the ESC so I have 1:1 speed control on every fresh build. This is to simplify both initial setup and testing of the heli at various RPMS by simply and quickly modifying my flat line throttle curves.
      After all, electric motors are by their very nature self governing. Nothing like an ICE engine that bogs down under rotor loading and/or over-speeds when unloaded. An electric motor on the other hand just draws more or less current under load and unload and maintains a very static speed (presuming a healthy battery and strong motor).
      A flat line throttle curve will therefor produce almost as consistent a head speed as running governor on an electric other than the slight RPM sag as the voltage sags during the fight or when really mismanaging cyclic and collective energy. As I'm not a hard 3D'er, I rarely run into those envelopes.
      I actually run flat line throttle curves without governor on most of my electrics even after initial flight testing, other than scale ones. With scale I do find governor does help a little bit to ensure the head speeds never match the natural resonance frequency/s of the fuselage as the voltage decays during a flight.
      No question if you have a specific head speed in mind that you know you want to run at, it's certainly easier and quicker to just dial that number into the ESC governor setup over experimenting with various flat line throttle curves and then looking at the post flight data log or optical taching the rotor. In short, use what works best for your specific machine and situation.

    Hi John,
    After watching several of your videos. I got myself two ALZRC 505 & X380 helicopters. Also got RadioLink 10ii. But the helicopter didn’t come with Kbar, it comes with TGZ580 and I have hard time getting the helicopter to function properly. Look on RUclips and there is no instructions on how to program the controller. Is there a tutorial or link for me to set up this helicopter.
    I’m old school and can set up helicopter for the one with fly bare. This will be my first FBL system and I’m having trouble setting it up.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  Год назад

      Sorry, never heard of that FBL system. If they don't have a website with downloadable instructions and setup wizard, I can't offer any advice other than getting a well established and supported FBL system and then stick with it moving forward. That is why most of us get used to one or two systems and stick with them because learning a new FBL system is a lot of work, sucks a lot of time and usually takes many flights before we fully trust the system. I'm a Bavarian Demon 3X and Ikon fan-boy myself, but we all have our own preferences. 🙂

    • @Rchelicopterfun

      When using DSM2/X satellites (pulse position modulation method) with any FBL system that supports them, you don't also need a full function RX (pulse width modulation method), just the Satellite or Satellite x2. I cover this in much more detail on my FBL page under the connectivity heading: www.rchelicopterfun.com/flybarless.html
      My page on RX antenna placement may also be helpful: www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-antenna.html
      By the way, the JR RD921 is a full function 9 channel RX, not a satellite RX.

    I like your videos mate, they are thorough with heaps of information. The heli itself is very tempting considering the price. The only thing that's holding me back to buy this heli is that the ALZRC is new and I'm not sure about spare parts supply in future. As you know lots of these small companies came in the market and left the market less than a year or two leaving you with a heli with no spare parts. What's your thoughts on this one? Cheers.

    • @Rchelicopterfun
      @Rchelicopterfun  3 года назад +1

      I first heard of ALZRC back in 2014 so they are not "new" and the 505 specifically, was introduced 4 years ago so not less than a "year or two" but I suspect that was a hyperbolic statement. However, what you described is not limited to ALZRC; it's a systemic problem no mater what brand. Strike that, it's a systemic problem with our endless growth profit driven & massively wasteful society. In the world of RC helicopters, it's actually these smaller boutique brands lately that keep their models around longer (and thus parts support for them) because they don't have massive R&D budgets to keep pumping out new models every few months. No matter what brand and model you get, it's a crap shoot if there will parts for it outside of 3 to 5 years these days. IMO, Bergen, Minatare Aircraft, and Vario would be the best best if you want long term parts support (at least here in North America).

      I'm personally not a fan of DFC heads, but on smaller helicopters (450 and under) their short comings are not as problematic; and on micro sizes (250 and under) they make lots of design and functionality sense due to small head block sizes. I cover potential DFC issues on my website on the DFC page: www.rchelicopterfun.com/DFC.html
      As for which Tarot 450 to get, I would choose the one that's the best price. As I mentioned, 450's are right around the size where the issues of DFC become less of a problem so I don't think you would be disappointed with either version. With all that said, I still fly an 800E with a DFC head and have never had any issues, but I keep a close eye on the DFC arms and head dampeners as I don't fully trust the system. I'm also not a hard 3D pilot. If I were, I would have gotten rid of DFC head on that machine as soon as Align offered a conventional washout head.
