Janet, for some reason I can't add an answer to your question, so I'm hoping you see this. A tip-in is something that wasn't part of the original construction of the book that provides extra real estate for journaling etc. Is generally hinged to a page. It can flip out, up or down. This is from Sharon of Mad Paper Crush 'Tip-ins are basically something attached to a journal page on one side that allows it to “flip” - revealing more of the page. They are a way to add more journaling space to your journals - or even to add a whole new page to a completed journal.'
Leigh, what great tips. This is my 2nd year of doing JJJ. Especially about embracing imperfection and doing what you want with what you have. I learned it the hard way that trying to do a page when I didn't like the prompt really never works for me. It made me feel bad and took the joy out of creating and I put more pressure on myself. As I go back and look at a my first journal I can see what I learned and what I liked the best. I've followed you for about a year now and have learned so much from watching but our styles are very different. Thats what I love about creating art. Its personal. Cheers from Kissimmee, Florida.
Thanks Theresa. That's pretty much how I was too, overthinking everything and not enjoying the process. If you post on instagram tag me so I can see your wonderful creations.
Great presentation Leigh, #4 really spoke to me but all of the tips are great not just for challenges but also when you just want to be creative. Many thanks for taking the time with this video. Cheers xx
Absolutely! I'd be struggling away in my big journal while the host was making tiny little things, took a while for the penny to drop but so glad it did. Glad you like the video. Cheers
This is my first time doing JJJ. thank you for some important tips & reminders. I also commend you on a wonderfully edited video. I loved the transitions & filters you used.
Thank you, glad you like my wacky transitions was trying to make it somewhat less boring than just talking. Have fun doing JJJ, hope the tips help you to have an enjoyable experience. Cheers from Australia
Hello Leigh, I'm very excited to participate in my first challenge. I loved your may challenge. I found you late in the month, so I didn't really participate. I watched and learned. I finally did your nature goddess. I need to put a few finishing touches on her. I rather happy with my lady. Thank you. A country HOWDY from northwest Illinois, USA.😊
Thanks so much for your video. Your tips are so encouraging : doing what you want with what you have, embracing imperfection and have fun. I agree too that for me its about learning. Unlike so many others on RUclips you're not promoting your products or kits....that has put so much pressure on me to buy things i really cant afford and thats not what art/journalling is all about. So thanks for your encouragement. Really appreciated. Take care. Cheers from Montreal.
You are so welcome. I mention products occaisionally, usually if I don't is when people want to know about them though, lol. I still feel pressured to buy products by the big RUclipsrs, had to stop watching one of my faves after they became a creator for Tim Holtz which is a bit sad. So happy you liked this video Terersa, thank you.
Thank you! This is a great video and very helpful. I'm working on my JJJ page while listening to your video and you reminded me about the rule that "there are no rules" and we are meant to enjoy this, not stress over it. Thanks again! ❤
Absolutely, if it's not enjoyable why do it. Used to get so hung up on the prompts when I first started doing challenges but now my attitude is 'do what I love' and if nobody likes it that is their loss. So go forth and create with reckless abandon and have a ball. Hugs & cheers xx
What great tips! I think I needed this little reminder to just have fun. I’m going at a very slow pace with Maggie May 😂. But I am excited to do more. I get so worried that my paintings are looking very child like. As a beginner I just need to embrace that and keep going. Thank you for sharing these valuable tips! Hugs 🤗❤️🎨
You got this Tamara, to coin a phrase. Don't worry about how long it is taking you to complete Maggie May, be proud that you are still going with it, and learning along the way. Happy you like my 'advice'. Hugs & cheers
Thank you for these tips. I actually did my first two pages today. I don’t do prompts normally because it takes me so long to think what to do, I finally thought what to do for Spark this morning!
Hey from Canada. Great tips Leigh. The take away for me is to not overthink, as some of the prompts are little abstract. I like your suggestion of what pops into your head when you think about the prompt.
Thank you for the great tips ❤️ I’m not a beginner hav been joining this challenge a couple of times. And i really agree with the “you do you” tips. I used to copy what most people do eg: used vintage papers but i don’t have the authenthic sources so i bought the faux one but i hated it. Turned out i only did one or two prompts & hated them haha…now i just used what i have (mostly painted papers & magazines). The have fun only came after i accepted my own way & style :) Thank you again for sharing this 🎉❤
Thanks so much for sharing your experience. Painted papers seem to get overlooked in this type of challenge. There is so much more satisfaction using them than something you bought. Your personality is in the paper and they hold memories too. You may recall the day you made them, how you were feeling at the time, you may have used your favourite colours. I'm so happy that you found your style and are comfortable with it. Have a wonderful time during the challenge. Hugs & cheers.
Loved all your tips. I use one often now that you used in January - look up the meaning of the word. I find that's really helpful if I'm stuck. Looking forward to the challenge and seeing what you create for both of your challenges ☺️💙
Thanks Karen, had forgotten to include that one even though it's one I use all the time. It's going to be a full-on month that's for sure. Hope you enjoy all the videos, going to keep them relatively short. Hugs & cheers.
Hi Leigh, this is my first ever challenge and I'm looking forward to it. These tips are a great list of things for us to keep in mind. I was about to make my journal with med. To large sized pages thinking that would be best. But, now I'm going to take your advice and make a smaller one. Thanks so much for putting this out there for all the newbies and probably not so newbies!😅TFS 😊
Wonderful, got the video out just in time. I used to get all uptight about challenges, but now enjoy them so much. Glad you liked the video and feel it is useful. Have fun making your small journal.
@@leighcreates thank you so much! I'm hoping I can follow your list and not get too stressed about it. I want to enjoy it and not get all worked up if things don't go the way I want them too.
@@janetphelps6879 Hi Janet, the challenge is run by Meg Journals, she has an info video with a link to the prompts. Have put a link below but don't know if it will work from a comment. You could copy and paste it too. Cheers ruclips.net/video/YGw4cUFqI18/видео.html
@leighcreates thanks. I did some research via your other videos, which led to Meg. I did find the list. I'm notorious for overthinking, so this may be more challenging than I can handle.. I am ready to make my own journal. 1st ever!
These are great tips ❤❤ I tried to do last year's jjj but I fell into the perfectionist mindset. I started watching what everyone else was doing and trying to do what they were doing and I lost my own ideas. You have given me so many reasons to do this years challenge! Thank you
Thanks for sharing your experience Liz. Used to do the same thing then realised how pointless it was to get myself in knots over it. So happy you found my tips of help. Hope you do the challenge with a new outlook and enjoy yourself. Hugs
Hi Leigh - No to hear the tips .. you’re looking good as a tv host. Still in the south and not at all ready for this but no worries. Did you see Ceri the Crafters challenge. I’m doing it also… have a look. Hug hug
Thanks Jackie, doing Ceri's challenge also, so that means 62 (short) videos this month. Must be a glutton for punishment. Enjoy your travels, take care. Hugs & cheers.
