Great review!!! The scale is correct. Ginrai (Cab mode) was not as big as G1 Optimus Prime which is canon. But he is the intended size in combined mode. Sorry about the breakage.
It's amazing that Ginrai was on a Masterpiece voting poll 10 years ago and ended up on third place with Armada Optimus coming in second and Star Saber taking the win.
There are four panels around Ginrai's waist to fold out not just the two. Good to know about those tabs. I'm still waiting for DHL to deliver mine but I think it scales with MP-24 pretty well.
I got this on preorder, thanks for the heads up I’m only going to transform this probably once and keep it in super Ginrai mode and keep my g1 in truck mode forever
Thanks for the great review. Wish Takara would use stronger plastic on their figures at known pressure points!! The tab connecting Skyfire’s nose was also super fragile and prone to break. Considering you need to push the folded cab into a tight space your think the tabs from the smokestacks would be reinforced
I have my copy on the way thank God I’m looking at reviews for potential breakage issues thx for pointing it out , I don’t think the smoke stack tab seems to be a vital connection most of the connection point seems to be the cab itself, smokestacks should’ve been Diecast
Great review and thanks for the heads up about the tab. That part definitely should have been metal, although it looks like the breakage should be avoidable. Ginrai definitely seems small too me (and yeah, I get it, that's the way it was in the cartoon) but fortunately Super Ginrai's size definitely hits the mark for me.
Youre supposed to, and I couldn't tell honestly of it worked or not felt like it worked backwards. This figure is fragile and I didn't want to push it.
Ah, so your figure seems to be the odd one out where plugging the engine in the grille *locks it in place?* That's actually better, proving that the Godmaster gimmick is frankly unnecessary at this price, especially for the full release of the toy with the trailer to make the Super mode.
Mine arrived yesterday and yes, I did indeed break it. Those smoke stack tabs snapped off the first time I transformed it. Both of them. Really hoping that a 3P company releases some metal upgrades at some point. Which is a shame because at this price point and being a Masterpiece I really shouldn't need any upgrades. Overall though I'm quite happy. It's a great looking figure and will look great with all the other Primes on my shelf.
Almost picked this up. But after watching this video seems like Super Ginrai needs a version 2.0 or even a redo like MP44. Doesn't feel like a masterpiece.
I think hes meant to scale in super ginrai mode, id imagine it would be a hellish nightmare trying to come up with a design that goes from mp-44 sized to like jetfire sized when combined with the trailer
I would still like to get this figure. I don't have much attachment to the Ginrai character. I grew up with Powermaster Prime, so that's why I am attracted to this figure and the KFC Raijin figure. Seems Takara and KFC both struggled with integrating the cab into the super robot mode. The Takara version super mode looks to have issue with those smoke stacks and the head popping up a bit.
Ginrai looks incredible, he's probably my favourite version of Prime in G1. it totally sucks that it I stopped buying official Has/tak mp figures as they are not even remotely worth the price now as the quality has dropped significantly as the price has increased even more. I'll wait for the inevitable KO of ginrai and pay a fraction of the price and they usually have added diecast or some extra bonus or something.
I know it toy acurrate but i hate the cab front and back it looks dumb saying that I still bought it I have it next to me ready to open I want to see the dos and don’t before I mess with it tho as the broken tab thing has stayed with me
Man this figure sucks for the price. I am going to pass on him (although I did pick up MS Ginrai). The Masterpiece lone has been a huge disappointment the last ten years. It is absolutely insane we never got a Jazz (who cares if Porche wont give a license?!?) or a Mirage but somehow got five(?) different Optimus Primes! 🤦♂️
I still don't get it. So, in Japan it's called Ginrai and in the US and Europe it's called PM Optimus Prime. But is it really Prime in the US and Europe?
In the US and EU, it’s the new form of G1 Optimus Prime. In Japan, it was supposed to be a new body (transtector) for G1 Prime, but a human named “Ginrai” bonded with the body and it acted like a mech suit for him.
What is with grey area in abdomen on each side of grill. I have seen pictures where the toy looked like they were there. Are there more than 1 version of this
I'm sorry but this thing is such a let down for me. It's way too small for that price point. Also it's more like a Studio Series than a Master Piece. The front and back show the cab in robot mode. That might be accurate, but it looks dumb. All in all it's just too simple.
I dont mind it being less complicated than others. FWIW I love the Hasui era of MPs and they are all not complicated to transform. Now the price though... its rough. If this wasnt one of my favorite characters/toys then I may have skipped it
@GhostPrimeReviews if its the size like a Missing Link, it looks like one, its build like one, its one. Its not a Masterpiece by fare. Chug or Missing link, you decide
@@jason.kchantziaras8456 Well it depends on your collection and preference. As I said in the comparison, they occupy different spaces in my collection. Power Baser is very stylized, and its own thing. I love it for that. MPG-09 is faithful to the cartoon.
@@GhostPrimeReviewsits seems the non extendable arm in the trailer was emulating visible fist on powermaster prime. Its not design flaw but best of both worlds NA release and retooled japanese release.
@@GhostPrimeReviews Not at all. I loved Hasui's designs. I can't recall any that were half the size they should be and had huge robot arms hanging out on their alt modes.
@@themanaiacalgamer8451 The Scale on the Super Robot is correct for Masterforce. Its the Opposite of the MP Magnus problem though. Magnus Scales in Alt mode, but not bot mode. They went the other direction with this one. That said, they could have done something about the arms for sure, but easier transformations are ok. That's why I brought up Hasui. His designs were easy to Transform, and for the most part, really fun to do. A Masterpiece shouldn't need to have an overly complicated transformation. It should be fun to do, and I think that's lost on modern MPs. I do hope they don't shrink new MP Carbots though. (Time will tell)
u forgot to flip out both side of his waist/torso piece. bet u didn't know that coz too arrogant to read the manual ...that explains those broken tabs..
@ I’m aware of what that series was trying to do. To say this is not Optimus Prime when Takara Tomy gives the consumer the pieces to make it represent that is disingenuous. This is also not a Masterpiece figure as it is not in scale with others in the line (and thus indicates MPG is simply a higher end price and quality chug figure). That’s fine if that’s what you want, but consumers were not given a heads up when the product line change was announced, and that’s wrong.
Combined mode fits the Masterforce scale chart. TT have said years ago that Super Ginrai will fit the scale. BUT! I do feel that MPs going forward may be in the smaller scale, and fit where they can. The Trainbots fit the scale of actual model trains, and this fits the scale of the original toy. I dont mind smalls MPs, but I dont want to start a new collection of them in that size. Like I mentioned about Jazz in my conclusion
For a masterpiece, it makes a pretty great CHUG.
Great review!!! The scale is correct. Ginrai (Cab mode) was not as big as G1 Optimus Prime which is canon. But he is the intended size in combined mode. Sorry about the breakage.
It's like talking to flat-earthers. What a ridiculous argument.

Thank you for this review I was having a hell of a time putting the cab into super mode. It just wasn’t tabbing in correctly

Double dipping as collectors will buy more in case of breakage, like how they bought more Yamato valkyries when those were breaking so easily.

Awesome review, GhostPrime! This is an amazing figure. Ginrai will look good in my collection.

YES! They really should have.

He is Optimus prime!!!!!
no it isn’t. Ginrai’s transtector was originally meant for Optimus Prime but it was stolen by Devil Z and Ginrai found it.
So just to clarify, do you need to have the Godmaster engine plugged into the grille of the truck to transform the main figure, or not?
Youre supposed to, and I couldn't tell honestly of it worked or not felt like it worked backwards. This figure is fragile and I didn't want to push it.

The non transformable arm in the trailer was to emulate visible fist on PMOP. Thats kojin ohno solution for both countries without retooling.
So cool and nostalgic. But I think I prefer Powermaster Optimus Prime.
