Man, this brings back memories of when I first started playing guitar in youth group; doing literally all of these hillsong songs and remembering how amazing the guitar parts sounded and were. Nearly every guitarist I knew during that time was chasing after those tones. The parts are still amazing! Hosanna and From the Inside Out are timeless imo; my absolute favs!
I'm also a year 2000s Hillsong fan, so this might be helpful with y'all! Sorry if I forgot some of the songs. Cheez!!! Back when worship music was actually interesting (musically speaking), and not just the same 4 chord progression over and over for all the songs!!
@@shotarolee5021 Yes most of their songs have simple chord progressions, but they have catchy hooks, riffs, and lead lines back then, in terms of musicality in worship, it is so rare these days.
Oh boy, this reminds me when I first started to listen to their music and the beginning of my christian journey. So good memories. Missing the old good days!
David Moyse was the OG gretch player. Hendroff played a PRS for a long time. Marcus had a custom built tele thing that sounded amazing. When Mikey got his white falcon the look was so iconic it caught on.
Man, i grew up listening to the 2008 I heart revolution album, so i recognized right away almost all songs especially the time has come intro are from that album haha thanks for playing these timeless classics, brings fond memories
Bro so true ! that´s why I love gretsch ! by any chance, do you have that version of freedom is here ? can you share it with me ? I can´t find it anywhere!
With each of these riffs you can easily identify the song. Unfortunately there's a lot of more modern songs where the music is little more bland. Nice playing! I've been playing my penguin since 2011 and it's just a wonderful guitar. I have the dynasonic in the neck and a tv Jones in the bridge and just love the tone. It works for me :D
Hey, amazing video! Question, is this a new model? Wondering about a followup to the reviews you gave on the prototype gretsch's you had back in 2022. 😅 You guys mentioned that likely, the finished product would have improvements made, as it purtained to tunning stability and such. Please 🙏, share whether gretsch had made those adjustments or, if not, you'd still recommend the solutions you guys provided. Would there be any tonal differences with the inclusion of a roller tunamatic bridge? I find that there are just some real world compromises that exist when optomizing in a particular dirrection for tone. Ex. A floating bridge on a strat... if you know, you know 😅😢😂.
I actually grabbed my Tennessee rose and tested if i could play along with you. Sort of a guitar lick name that tune. Mostly still got it! Although I had a 512x something back then w DeArmond singles, not real filtertrons...
Sorry but for me once you add ANY overdrive/fuzz the type of guitar does not really matter. Use can even use your tone control to add a bit more low end to single coils. I just AB'ed a Gretsch single cut with a Telecaster through my Stomp Vox. very little actual difference.BUT Jemmuel you are so much more talented than me. With your ability and young ears I will always listen and seriously consider your recommendations. I really enjoy this channel.
Well if you try adding distortion and fuzz to a full hollow body jazz box compared to a telecaster, the sound, response, sustain, clarity is going to be very different. It DOES matter. You might not see it now, but when you develop the ears and feel for the instrument, everything is different. Thank you so much for the support of the channel. :)
You can EQ things to have a similar frequency curve. But every guitar has tonal differences, even when the pickups are the same. And hollowbodies have this resonance thing going on you can't replicate by just adding more distortion. There is a reason guitarists are known for buying a room full of guitars.
sorry not sorry. it's way way different when you use Gretsch compared Strat, Tele, Les Paul and other guitars. The Hollow Body with a bright humbacker pick ups called "Filtertron" compliments this type of music. :) don't worry, you'll get used to it the more you dig deeper to praise and worship musicality :) HAVING KEEN EARS IS THE KEY BABY :)
Kuya pwedi mubang gawan nang lead guitar tutorial yung kanta na "Hallelujah for the lord God almighty" di ko kasi ma hanap sa RUclips yung tutorial sana ma Notice mo po comment ko God bless po❤❤
Agree with all comments, real tired of the 4 chord repeats just changing capo locations. Not to mention the rap style stuff. Bring back the old Hillsong and Audio Adrenaline and Newsboys.
You can do that in any guitar, just have the skills. 😊😂 it’s just a modern church hype sometimes.. what’s cool on other church gets emulated on the other and so on.. nothing wrong about it. I’m just saying that worship licks & riffs is not exclusive for a specific guitar.
bro thats anything, do you have a pair of Nike's because that's what the pros wore, do you call tissue paper "Kleenex", etc. The Gretsch 5420T was my first electric guitar because there were many types to choose from so I indeed leaned toward the one that the Hillsong guys had. My second guitar was a custom cloned after Hendroff's TMG Scarlett. If I had the money now I'd pick up this Hendroff Penguin. I'm reppin this band the rest of my life because I grew up at the same time as them. The young kids will call our generation old but I won't care.

Listen to Brandon lakes HELP album, Phil Wickhams HOH album, Elevation's Acoustic Sessions
To be fair hillsong songs were always mostly simple progressions
@@shotarolee5021 Yes most of their songs have simple chord progressions, but they have catchy hooks, riffs, and lead lines back then, in terms of musicality in worship, it is so rare these days.
You do realize most songs run on the same 4 chord progressions Worship, Contemporary, pop and most genre's
This is a nostalgia ride
Man I just relived my late high school and early college days in 7:54 minutes!!!

Lol the subtle AC/DC in between haha
Well, Hillsong does that on the record, so they"re the ones that ripped it off.

Love this video, man. I learned a lot. Thank you!
What nostalgic bro!! thank u
I dont care if people think these guys were only good within the P&W genre. These guys got more HITS than most secular rock 'n roll bands!
Nice playing 👌

Yeah the tone is difference is there for sure. This guitar defines this era of worship, and you capture it well.
