This video is one of my most FAVORITE performances by them with Jenny giving it her all. The sweet, delicate voice she sings in on this version of the performance is to die for, the way she sings and puts her hand over her heart and courts the audience with her small hands, all of it makes me melt.
Very wise decision to play this way. Prodigy is another band that does this well. Take a well-known song, play it much differently from the album version, add new sections, pump it up. It gives the audience a completely different experience than just hearing the same album version all over again.
This is actually a mix of the European Original Mix of the song and the US version. If you look at the CD in the States it states its the Total Mix which is a different cut of it.

+AurolaGerero It wasn't just the concert, Malin was generally sick and tired of being famous, as well as being obsessed over by fans, including crazy stalker types, which the other band members (even Jenny) didn't have to deal with. She had never wanted to be famous in the first place anyway--she was doing her brother Jonas a favor, and then it got way out of control.
@CarlaJenn, we meet again here! That is also my favorite part that she sings in this song. There is just something so powerful, majestic and elegant about Jenny's voice, I can't even put it into words. But the tender and sweetness to her voice is addictive with how she sings. There are a lot of female vocalists I appreciate, but not one I have heard that has such a unique sound like hers.

In this case, Jenny was lip-syncing but Linn was singing live (except for the chorus)--listen to the record and compare at 1:02. All things considered (including Linn's insomnia, which might have set in by this point), Linn sounds quite good, I think, but because she sang live for most if not all of the songs, she was more tired than Jenny during this show. Yes, it is always unfortunate when bands resort to this, and I don't think either Jenny or Linn was ever proud of this, but the schedule was unreasonably grueling, and they needed to save their voices. I blame the record companies, if anything, for working vocalists to death, making them sing night after night with inadequate rest (saves on the cost of the tour, I guess) in an extremely loud environment (they have to sing over the blaring noise). Some artists like Enya refuse to tour at all, while even Adele has been forced to retire from touring. For additional examples, the vocalists in two of my favorite bands besides Ace of Base sing like crap now because of the wear and tear on their voices from huge world tours (and they had more rest between shows than Jenny and Linn).
+Nah Linn was singing live, at least at 1:02. Her voice was tired and weak, but she gave it a good effort and sounded pretty good after a few seconds. I wish there were more footage of concerts (such as the ones in Riga) in which both she and Jenny were well-rested. They sounded great and quite strong (especially Linn), but after all of the hard touring their voices just weren't the same (until they could rest for a good while and recover).

@ctrack n chloe tanny, Jenny's voice may be a little different now, naturally from age, but if you see her live performances she still has that "girly" energy and sound to her, and even in the way she carries and conducts herself when just talking. The energy and soul she has is just amazing and that she has not lost that character in her. When Jenny sings, she sings with so much soul. Ace of Base is one of my favorite bands of all time, I have little to complain about them because I love their style and everything about them. All Members of the band are very attractive and I also respect their personal values as well. But I do wish there were sometimes a lot more focus on the special "solo" work of Jenny or at least where the voices of girls were more focused on throughout the music compared to the beats, but it is kind of like a 50/50 mix between the beats and their vocals.
This was the last song of the session and the blonde ie. Malin was obviously tired. Jenny by comparision was still full of energy. Watch the flowers, Jenny engages the audience looking for someone to toss them to, Linn just tosses the whole bunch and the hell with it. She was just exhausted and is actually a very nice caring person.

She is very introverted, and after four years of super-stardom all of the attention finally got to her--badly. She had never asked for any of this--she would much rather have finished her education and become a schoolteacher. She joined the band because her brother Jonas needed her. No one thought that they would get this big, and now Linn was trapped. Jenny still had energy because she enjoyed the attention and being adored by the audience--this gave her more energy. But Linn is very shy and modest, so attention at this level had always embarrassed her and drained her of energy. After four years of putting up an act, she was exhausted and I think had begun to fear attention. Folks, Linn was generally feeling miserable for reasons beyond her control. Please try to understand. She was never the type of person who wanted to be a pop singer, and now she was stuck with it. I bet some are thinking that she must be stuck up, self-absorbed, and ungrateful, but that is SO far from the truth it's ridiculous. The truth is that Linn doesn't have an intuitive sense of why people would like her so much--like I said she is modest, and furthermore she may even have low self-esteem. The attention was beginning to literally hurt her, and I suppose she wasn't feeling real grateful for that. She needed to get off the stage to feel better, while Jenny and the others wanted to stay there because that made them feel better. Poor Linn--she was suffering and some people think poorly of her for it instead of sympathizing. This is NOT a normal situation for a pop singer. Linn had only ever wanted to lead a quiet, private life.

She had actually expressed openly in public her concerns about whether she would be able to continue without resorting to drugs. By the latter I assume she didn't mean recreational drugs because that is 100% not her, but rather sleeping pills (which are barbiturates) and/or anti-anxiety medication. Neither are good for one's health, and the former can lead to accidental addiction, but sleep deprivation can be even worse (I know because I've suffered from insomnia myself, which comes and goes without apparent reason). There were times when Linn started to look "out of it" like she was super-sleepy or was on medication, and frankly that was alarming! Not long afterward Linn quit performing and took care of her health issues, and she began to look normal again, thank goodness, even though she was hiding from cameras and such. Agoraphobia was also something she began to suffer from, according to the band. The list keeps growing, doesn't it? And it could all be true, from what I've seen. By the way, I mentioned low self-esteem in my previous comment, but I think I should clarify. Linn has always been a self-confident person who knows her worth and can stand up for herself, so I didn't mean anything that would contradict that. It's kind of hard to explain, but I think she just didn't have enough of an ego to feel that she lived up to the exaggerated, perfect image that fans had of her. For a critical (including self-critical) realist like her, it was too much to take over time--she was just Linn, not the mega-famous pop star on the stage. In this way, her self-esteem began to suffer--perhaps she felt she was a fraud, and this gave her anxiety, which led to stage fright. In a way, she was right, as no one is really some kind of perfect pop goddess, but some people can fool themselves into believing that they are or at least enjoy the fact that people are fooled into believing that, but Linn could not. It's just so weird that someone with her personality who never wanted to be a pop star actually became one on this massive scale. I've never heard of such a thing before--virtually always a pop star would give or do almost anything to be famous and adored by the public. Sometimes it's more moderate like in Jenny's case, but being a pop star is definitely not for Linn.

And your response is in fact, the only true and rational approach to this situation and how one should understand everything to do with Linn. Where you stated that Linn doesn't have "intuitive sense" of why people like her, you are absolutely correct about this. People who are decent and have humility, are indifferent to themselves as a person, even when confronted with fame or worship. And so it came as an unexpected shock and surprise to her, and to a point where she would not have the energy to be able to mitigate or keep things from spiraling out of control.

It is actually typical for such issues, such as agoraphobia, to have a sudden onset, which is unfortunate because others have trouble understanding what went wrong. I've explained this in several other posts already, but so no one has to look it up, Linn was never the pop star type, never wanted to be a pop star (was just helping her brother Jonas), and is very introverted and a bit shy on top of that, so fame drained her energy (had the opposite effect on Jenny), and after four years she was spent and had probably developed a fear of attention. Feel sad for her, if anything. What she gave us was a sacrifice, which made it a real gift. I only wish that she could have quit at this point like she wanted to so badly, but the record companies wouldn't let her--they considered her the star and threatened to drop the band if she quit, so she stayed for many years more for the sake of her siblings Jenny and Jonas. Many people would love to be pop stars, but for Linn it was like being a slave--suffering with no way out. It would have been different if it were just work, but this was psychologically damaging to her. :( Rather than getting upset at her for leaving the stage early, we should be upset at what happened to this nice, classy, humble young lady. It would only get worse later as the record companies tried to force her back into the spotlight--they treated her poorly and wouldn't let her go.
+Kolos Farkhasiu Yes, that is all true to the best of my knowledge, but you are also correct that Linn had a serious problem with stalkers, which none of the other members of Ace of Base are known to have had. Are you talking about a particular stalker that made her quit the band? I don't know of any such person, but if you do, then please tell us what you know. What I know is that this was a general problem over a long period of time for Linn, involving multiple stalkers. For instance, there was one stalker who actually climbed up the exterior of a hotel in an attempt to get to Linn's room; fortunately he was spotted and arrested before he got there. And then of course there was the potentially deadly incident in which Jenny was taken hostage at knife-point by a stalker who demanded to see Linn or else she was going to kill Jenny. Thank goodness Jenny wasn't seriously harmed physically (albeit her mother was cut/stabbed in the hands while she, Jenny, and Jenny's father disarmed and neutralized the stalker), although she still bears psychological scars from this incident. Linn never could get over the guilt she felt over this, and of course there would always be other stalkers as long as she remained in the spotlight, which in combination with the general reason I gave above was ultimately why she shied away from performing and from cameras and such. Nevertheless, Linn remained a member of Ace of Base, if only in the background. Now, if it wasn't a particular stalker or incident that actually made her finally leave the band (is that what you meant?), then there were very likely other reasons for that. At the time, the band had been working on a new album, for which they had finished five or six songs, but then their work ground to a halt, apparently due to creative differences. While they were apart, Linn decided to go back to college to finish her education, and she never returned. Jenny stayed with the band, but was eventually kicked out against her will (and, I believe, illegally) by Jonas and Ulf, who replaced her with two new female singers. The new "ACE.OF.BASE" soon failed, and the new singers were given the boot. Now all Jonas does, aside from releasing old songs, is hope and pray and wait for Linn to return. Make of all of this what you will, but I think that based on this and a good number of statements made by all parties involved, that Jonas and Ulf demanded full creative control this time, while Linn and Jenny wanted to have a say in creative matters, but were shut out. Since Linn didn't even want to be in the business anyway, she decided to leave--they were disrespecting her like the record companies did, and in reality she didn't need them, they needed her! The guys thought differently, and that two new singers would do just fine, but in the end they were proven wrong. Meanwhile Jenny is still bitter over what they did to her and no longer wants to work with Jonas and Ulf, and I imagine that Linn isn't real happy about that or how she was treated herself, so she is almost certainly never going to come back. She doesn't want to anyway, and is happier than ever to live a private life now. Linn is also still afraid of being recognized while out in public, so it is not hard to imagine that she is still afraid that stepping back into the spotlight would bring back the stalkers, endangering herself and her family, especially Jenny. Why would she risk that for something she doesn't even want?

I can't believe all these BULLSHIT comments from everyone claiming that Jenny had much more star quality than Linn. Quit putting Linn down so much! They sounded great and quite strong (especially Linn), but after all of the hard touring their voices just weren't the same (until they could rest for a good while and recover).

@ctrack n chloe tanny, Jenny's voice may be a little different now, naturally from age, but if you see her live performances she still has that "girly" energy and sound to her, and even in the way she carries and conducts herself when just talking. The energy and soul she has is just amazing and that she has not lost that character in her. When Jenny sings, she sings with so much soul. Ace of Base is one of my favorite bands of all time, I have little to complain about them because I love their style and everything about them. All Members of the band are very attractive and I also respect their personal values as well. But I do wish there were sometimes a lot more focus on the special "solo" work of Jenny or at least where the voices of girls were more focused on throughout the music compared to the beats, but it is kind of like a 50/50 mix between the beats and their vocals.

This was the last song of the session and the blonde ie. Malin was obviously tired. Jenny by comparision was still full of energy. Watch the flowers, Jenny engages the audience looking for someone to toss them to, Linn just tosses the whole bunch and the hell with it. She was just exhausted and is actually a very nice caring person.

She had never asked for any of this--she would much rather have finished her education and become a schoolteacher. She joined the band because her brother Jonas needed her. No one thought that they would get this big, and now Linn was trapped.
Jenny still had energy because she enjoyed the attention and being adored by the audience--this gave her more energy. But Linn is very shy and modest, so attention at this level had always embarrassed her and drained her of energy. After four years of putting up an act, she was exhausted and I think had begun to fear attention.
Folks, Linn was generally feeling miserable for reasons beyond her control. Please try to understand. She was never the type of person who wanted to be a pop singer, and now she was stuck with it. I bet some are thinking that she must be stuck up, self-absorbed, and ungrateful, but that is SO far from the truth it's ridiculous. The truth is that Linn doesn't have an intuitive sense of why people would like her so much--like I said she is modest, and furthermore she may even have low self-esteem. The attention was beginning to literally hurt her, and I suppose she wasn't feeling real grateful for that. She needed to get off the stage to feel better, while Jenny and the others wanted to stay there because that made them feel better. Poor Linn--she was suffering and some people think poorly of her for it instead of sympathizing. This is NOT a normal situation for a pop singer. Linn had only ever wanted to lead a quiet, private life.

+Nah Well thanks :), and not to try to pile on the excuses, but at some point--perhaps even before this concert--Linn began to suffer from insomnia in addition to anxiety. She had actually expressed openly in public her concerns about whether she would be able to continue without resorting to drugs. By the latter I assume she didn't mean recreational drugs because that is 100% not her, but rather sleeping pills (which are barbiturates) and/or anti-anxiety medication. Neither are good for one's health, and the former can lead to accidental addiction, but sleep deprivation can be even worse (I know because I've suffered from insomnia myself, which comes and goes without apparent reason). There were times when Linn started to look "out of it" like she was super-sleepy or was on medication, and frankly that was alarming! Not long afterward Linn quit performing and took care of her health issues, and she began to look normal again, thank goodness, even though she was hiding from cameras and such. Agoraphobia was also something she began to suffer from, according to the band. The list keeps growing, doesn't it? And it could all be true, from what I've seen.
By the way, I mentioned low self-esteem in my previous comment, but I think I should clarify. Linn has always been a self-confident person who knows her worth and can stand up for herself, so I didn't mean anything that would contradict that. It's kind of hard to explain, but I think she just didn't have enough of an ego to feel that she lived up to the exaggerated, perfect image that fans had of her. For a critical (including self-critical) realist like her, it was too much to take over time--she was just Linn, not the mega-famous pop star on the stage. In this way, her self-esteem began to suffer--perhaps she felt she was a fraud, and this gave her anxiety, which led to stage fright. In a way, she was right, as no one is really some kind of perfect pop goddess, but some people can fool themselves into believing that they are or at least enjoy the fact that people are fooled into believing that, but Linn could not. It's just so weird that someone with her personality who never wanted to be a pop star actually became one on this massive scale. I've never heard of such a thing before--virtually always a pop star would give or do almost anything to be famous and adored by the public. Sometimes it's more moderate like in Jenny's case, but being a pop star is definitely not for Linn.

And your response is in fact, the only true and rational approach to this situation and how one should understand everything to do with Linn. Where you stated that Linn doesn't have "intuitive sense" of why people like her, you are absolutely correct about this. People who are decent and have humility, are indifferent to themselves as a person, even when confronted with fame or worship. And so it came as an unexpected shock and surprise to her, and to a point where she would not have the energy to be able to mitigate or keep things from spiraling out of control.

It is actually typical for such issues, such as agoraphobia, to have a sudden onset, which is unfortunate because others have trouble understanding what went wrong.
I've explained this in several other posts already, but so no one has to look it up, Linn was never the pop star type, never wanted to be a pop star (was just helping her brother Jonas), and is very introverted and a bit shy on top of that, so fame drained her energy (had the opposite effect on Jenny), and after four years she was spent and had probably developed a fear of attention. Feel sad for her, if anything. What she gave us was a sacrifice, which made it a real gift. I only wish that she could have quit at this point like she wanted to so badly, but the record companies wouldn't let her--they considered her the star and threatened to drop the band if she quit, so she stayed for many years more for the sake of her siblings Jenny and Jonas. Many people would love to be pop stars, but for Linn it was like being a slave--suffering with no way out. It would have been different if it were just work, but this was psychologically damaging to her. :( Rather than getting upset at her for leaving the stage early, we should be upset at what happened to this nice, classy, humble young lady. It would only get worse later as the record companies tried to force her back into the spotlight--they treated her poorly and wouldn't let her go.

+Kolos Farkhasiu Yes, that is all true to the best of my knowledge, but you are also correct that Linn had a serious problem with stalkers, which none of the other members of Ace of Base are known to have had. Are you talking about a particular stalker that made her quit the band? I don't know of any such person, but if you do, then please tell us what you know. What I know is that this was a general problem over a long period of time for Linn, involving multiple stalkers. For instance, there was one stalker who actually climbed up the exterior of a hotel in an attempt to get to Linn's room; fortunately he was spotted and arrested before he got there. And then of course there was the potentially deadly incident in which Jenny was taken hostage at knife-point by a stalker who demanded to see Linn or else she was going to kill Jenny. Thank goodness Jenny wasn't seriously harmed physically (albeit her mother was cut/stabbed in the hands while she, Jenny, and Jenny's father disarmed and neutralized the stalker), although she still bears psychological scars from this incident. Linn never could get over the guilt she felt over this, and of course there would always be other stalkers as long as she remained in the spotlight, which in combination with the general reason I gave above was ultimately why she shied away from performing and from cameras and such.
Nevertheless, Linn remained a member of Ace of Base, if only in the background. Now, if it wasn't a particular stalker or incident that actually made her finally leave the band (is that what you meant?), then there were very likely other reasons for that. At the time, the band had been working on a new album, for which they had finished five or six songs, but then their work ground to a halt, apparently due to creative differences. While they were apart, Linn decided to go back to college to finish her education, and she never returned. Jenny stayed with the band, but was eventually kicked out against her will (and, I believe, illegally) by Jonas and Ulf, who replaced her with two new female singers. The new "ACE.OF.BASE" soon failed, and the new singers were given the boot. Now all Jonas does, aside from releasing old songs, is hope and pray and wait for Linn to return. Make of all of this what you will, but I think that based on this and a good number of statements made by all parties involved, that Jonas and Ulf demanded full creative control this time, while Linn and Jenny wanted to have a say in creative matters, but were shut out. Since Linn didn't even want to be in the business anyway, she decided to leave--they were disrespecting her like the record companies did, and in reality she didn't need them, they needed her! The guys thought differently, and that two new singers would do just fine, but in the end they were proven wrong. Meanwhile Jenny is still bitter over what they did to her and no longer wants to work with Jonas and Ulf, and I imagine that Linn isn't real happy about that or how she was treated herself, so she is almost certainly never going to come back. She doesn't want to anyway, and is happier than ever to live a private life now. Linn is also still afraid of being recognized while out in public, so it is not hard to imagine that she is still afraid that stepping back into the spotlight would bring back the stalkers, endangering herself and her family, especially Jenny. Why would she risk that for something she doesn't even want?

I can't believe all these BULLSHIT comments from everyone claiming that Jenny had much more star quality than Linn. Quit putting Linn down so much! The way she performs in most of the music videos, especially "The Sign" speaks for itself. Linn is sexy and she is a superstar and has the perfect star quality to perform. Jenny just, in my opinion, seemed to want her out of the way so she could shine more herself. Linn went away not because of Jenny. She said it herself "she wanted to sing but not be a singer." so I guess she thought at first it was going to be fun for a while just a hobby and when they started growing bigger she just didnt like that kind of life. She decided to step back and then leave and she was happy having Jenny being the vocal singer. So please you may love Linn but do not say what you dont know about Jenny.
