I'm so glad the original owner of the land where Keoni's ancestors were buried , died , and now the land is Keoni's .
He is very humble and says

I have immense respect for the Hawaiian people. I grew up in Brazil adoring their culture from a far. I worked hard as a young adult and moved there for a few years. It was truly a dream come true. I learned so much and my admiration only grew. Hawaii is a special place on earth, a lot of us feel that way. It’s not just the beautiful landscapes. It’s the unique people oh Hawaii and their loving culture that has captivated the whole world. Greed is such an illness in humanity. A disgrace!

I love you my dearest son, you have put your all in making your documentary. You made it with all what you believe in, saving not the living but those were here before us. Because their history has made the kanaka maole who we are as the loving, kind and genuine respectful people that live in our Homeland that we call Hawaii. You can't learn the culture you have to be raised up living it. People of the world can imitate us but youhave to be raised Hawaiian to know what we are,how we think, how we act and why we do what we we do to show our deepest and respectful love to whom we meet and teach our Hawaiian love too which is so rich in respect and beautiful generosity to the people of the world 🌺🏝️🥰 your mama

The same has been done to the natives of america. I'm of Cherokee mixed ancestry and our peoples lands was taken by the puritans and Europeans. It never changes. Natives still fight.for recognition of their traditions and the return of the ancestors bones and artifacts that were stolen from Graves. The laws about grave robbing doesn't seem to apply to everyone.😢 my prayers are sent for your efforts to be successful. Much aloha.

Christians came to Hawaii and destroyed the Hawaiian’s connection with nature and their metaphysical beliefs, not to mention their lack of respect for Hawaiian land rights, and yet after all of this so many Hawaiian’s took to Christianity the very people who destroyed their culture and identity with nature and the universe. Hawaiian’s were great scientists with thousands of years of knowledge destroyed by Christians.

State secession was tried over 160 years ago. The response was a federal invasion, war, and most of a million dead.
Polynesians colonized Hawaii less than 1,000 years ago. Stories say that there were small people who lived there before them who were pushed into the forests by the Polynesians.
So modern Hawaiians seem to have no respect for the burials or customs of the indigenous people of Hawaii. They brought a foreign Polynesian culture when they colonized Hawaii and forced the original inhabitants into the margins and destroyed their cultures and evidently their burials. Modern Hawaiians are short sighted hypocrites.

The most devastating aspect is the environmental destruction. The Hawaiian Islands are like the Amazon Rainforest and these bulldozers destroying lands for housing is appalling and unacceptable. Certain species of plant that are not only food provisions but also healing medicine are being lost. Hawaii needs stricter environmental protection laws in many areas. The most important thing is to not fall into the trap of hatred. Judge a person by their behavior and how they care for all - care for the environment.

Keoni, this documentary of KAPU has opened my eyes even bigger on what has been going on the Aina, I have been gone from my Aina for far too long to see what is happening. I salute you for standing up for your Kapunas and for the Hawaiian people. this has made me look into what I can do to help in my lifetime for our Kanakas, as a Kanaka. I can see that the Hawaii gov't (not Hawaiian) only care for money and what outsiders can do for them and not the Kanakas. I will see and look into what it takes to run for a spot-on OHA staff as it seems they are only talkers and not doers, as they are prisoners of the State and Federal money. Times have changed where people don't respect what our ancestors were to us . SAD how people can disrespect a burial site and think no one will get mad about it! I don't know what kind of Government we have here, but this kind of greed for land by anyone not respecting the sacred things that are on it shouldn't be tolerated anymore in Hawaii!! Much love and Respect to the Hawaiian Indigenous Natives.
    We Natives Indigenous of Aotearoa
can relate to the story being told here.
Our Tupuna resting place also get disrespected by Greed and Development .
We also have Kaitiaki Warriors that stand for our ancestors on TAPU Land.
I feel the mamai that yous are going through.
All the indigenous people of the world have similar stories to share.
We have all been invaded by a colonial system that keeps us Suppressed so we struggle to rise in the only land we can call Home.
We will continue to fight for what little right we have left,

The only common we have with the Common wealth is...
They take and exploit our wealth..our resources.
    Our freedom.
    There is Salvation for us...
    Dont give up Hope.
    Hold fast to your Tupuna,
    Your whakapapa ,
    Your Descendants..
    The Future generations to come.
    We can do this..
    TOGETHER.
We congregate in WAITANGI OCT 28th every year.
Our Paremata is open till Feb 6th.

Glad you are doing this vital protective work for burials. I am appalled at how little people think of desecrating cemeteries. Here on the mainland in rural spots and even big cities this happens due to construction of public roadways, sidewalks, business buildings and even converting a cemetery to a city passive park (no stones as all were removed but not the remains). Yes, I have seen such in Southern California. Also one ancestor's grave lost in a cemetery that probably has his remains under a street! Buried in that cemetery and in the cemetery's records but it was done in 1850. Several other graves are lost as well. Extra sad.

I will be in a same plot with my genetically Un similar adoptive parents and the risk of being counted as the wrong race my whole life; will undoubtedly continue beyond death. I honestly don’t know any better modern way to convert to either ancient Egyptian or Native American ‘tradition’ of history rewritten. Maybe I DO take the bulldozers more personally. I was a plastic islander growing up in Australia didn't know what it meant to be an islander due to the many different cultures living amongst eachother. As I got older and did some digging iam learning and unfolding the old ways of my Rarotonga,Tahiti, and Havaii side also having blood connections to Rapanui and Tonga. We are all one.

My heart is breaking for all the destruction that continues in Hawaii on all the Islands. Don't understand others not respecting the land and its people and customs. The United States was so wrong in taking over this land. Terrible. My prayers for all Hawaiians.

Mahalo nui loa to all that was involved to bring this here for others to view. This is major awesome sauce for me, in the continuing the discoveries of Hawaii, its people and their culture. Much that was intentionally left out of history books and travel industries. To mush has been; buried and hidden from those that are the consumers of capitalistic societies, around the world…

Beautiful. I'm Samoan.... I'm fluent. I from a land so Kapu only the descendants of my Great Grandfather's children can live there. Pili Demi God like Maui who was the great traveler.... and.... said to be the ancestor of Tamehameha... is buried on my land. Strangely his grave is huge built like a pyramid four tiered. If you're stumble upon it once... consider yourself lucky. Because NOBODY ever finds again. I've known people who who tried to find it again. Even more strange is it's never overgrown by the jungle.

It would be great if more people watched this and would try to understand that when ancestral Hawaiians buried their dead , they didn't want everybody to know where they are buried ... it is to be kept secret and not for the public to know .
So when the powers-that-be take their remains from various places and put them all in mass graves in a public park , this is so disrespectful and wrong to do this to the Hawaiian people ... that is not how they wanted to honor their ancestors .

This is so sad...very sad. This breaks my heart knowing that anyone can just allow this to happen. I'm speechless. Ty Keoni for having so much fight and passion to preserve what your ancestors have done for hundreds of years. Everyone with a heart wouldn't allow anyone to desecrate graveyards. What is the difference between a graveyard or a loved one's resting place is? This is how it's been for the Hawaiians that lived in Hawaii BEFORE any other race came to live in Hawaii. Before Hawaii became part of the united states. Why can't people see this? understand this?

They need to leave the Island alone. It's beautiful and perfect and should be respected. If they change it with large apartments and parking lots and urban development... There won't be any reason to go there anymore. It will be just like every place else..leave it a paradise where people can go to remember what the world was like before we flattened it all out and covered it with concrete. What a shame for the natives... :(

I am with you . Your Island- fight for it. I am Polish live in Canada . So many of us are all over the world Second War 1939 my country was attacked by Hitler . My people were murdered. Country destroyed Books burned, art stolen . I visited Germany as a high-school girl scout. I also visited museums and seen art hanging in there country . Never returned. We are blending cultures now But it is not right to dig up burial of your entsisters . They have been doing that Building homes on old cementary. That isn't ok . But we got to go somewhere. That is why I am gone be cremated. Dust to dust . Your soul isn't getting barred. It's your used body . I belive that our souls are saved . I understand it's your culture, your identity. They took it from you I had to move to have some kind of future. I miss my country very much. My childhood is never forgotten God's words are love . We need to love each other. No matter the color, ethnicity language . We need to learn each other language and learn to live next to each other. It's not easy but with love we can do it . If you are Catholics (, so am I ) you know that body gets used and we die but the soul lives forever . We keep our loved ones in our hearts 💕 I don't mind being cremated. I am not my body . Maybe you can find a peace if you belive that . My heart goes out to Hawaiians and we need to respect their belives . ❤ 😢 as everyone else's. Everyone is unique.
