Can someone explain to me why the upper black group was left half dead the entire game before making the move to kill the two white stones??

I’m not 100% but I think doctor left it because he saw the connection to the top left group if white tries to run out those two stones. Check around 23:30. I was wondering that as well, thinking maybe it just wasn’t big enough somehow but it seems doctor had no worries about that group
