    Legendary. 1964. I repeat 1964. Some iconic sh** right here ! All recorded in one take at the studio. If there was ever a case for divine intervention - this is it ! Glad you reacted to this guys.

    I'm a massive Beatles fan, but at the time this came out they were doing Love Me Do.....
    Aggresive is the perfect description when you think of what was 'big' at that time and what a voice for such a young guy. Amazing.
    Its a take on a traditional song, its not theirs, but man, they own it.

      That's what I thought ... for all the decades of hearing this song without ever seeing the visuals I thought the lead singer was way wayyy older ... so this is a surprise. And his serious aggressive expression is quite a departure from the general positive upbeat presence of other groups at the time.

    Never thought about their influence on The Doors, totally agree, the organ or just keys/piano in general in rock is so good.

    In the case of this song, The Animals had honed it while on tour with Chuck Berry. They nneded a song to close their set that was different because they knew they couldn't out-Rock Berry and other supporting acts on the tour had tried and failed. They hit on this and increasingly got more and more enthusiastic responses. Including having to it over again....and chuck berry saying he'd have to start his set with Johnny B ... The band heard people talking about the song and realised they had to record it, pronto. They then stopped off in the studio to record some material midway between two tour stops. Middle of the night. They did this after one tech run through and then went for a take (not much time) and this is it. When it was played back to them, Hilton valentine the lead guitarist said they all knew they had a monster hit.

    This was a cover of an old blues song from the US. Most other groups at the time were topping the charts with more 'pop -ee' type songs & this went totally against the grain so the Animals took a big chance on this & it paid off big time. Also love 'Don't let me be misunderstood'. Know Eric Burden lives in the US & there is a a great live version of HoTRS from not too many years ago on YT.

    I would guess that most singer/songwriters "think they have something" with every song they make or that song would never have seen the light of day. They just can't know if what they intend will be experienced the same way by others. But I'm sure there are instances when an artist does know ... usually the song that comes of nowhere in just a few minutes and surprises even themselves ... almost like they find themselves channeling something from somewhere else.

    Try their original Inside Looking Out. As great as grand Funk’s remake of same. Animals - Hard blues rock while Grand Funk was hard blues/funk rock. BOTH EXCELLENT!!!

    I'm from New Orleans, grew up there, and as small as New Orleans is, there are 5 or 6 different accents in the city. Just depends where you grew up. All of those accents pronounce "New Orleans" a little differently.

    Great track, you nailed it when you said an aggressive style. Fun reaction. The funny thing with bands and hits is that half the time they have no idea what is good or not - Radiohead hate Creep, Slash thinks Sweet Child of Mine is crap etc. You should check out the Easybeats sometime, the lead guitarist George is phenomenal and his younger brothers Angus & Malcolm formed a band that did pretty well (AC/DC).
    Useless Trivia - Bassist Chas Chandler decided to become a manager and brought Jimi Hendrix to the UK and that made him a star.

      @@reactionextraction - Yeah true - a Bonus bit of useless trivia. George Young and his fellow Easybeat Harry Vanda went on to produce a ton of artists including all the early albums by AC/DC. They were known as great guitarists and Markk Knopfler used their first names for two of the band in Dire Straights classic "Sultans of Swing"

    • @36karpatoruski
      @36karpatoruski 11 месяцев назад

      No. Is a Vox Continental. Orange case, reverse colors on the black and white keys Absolutely unique and very cool, the standard organ for the Doors, Animals, Iron Butterfly, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Question Mark and the Mysterians, Dave Clark 5, even early Stones and Beatles, and Pink Floyd. Elvis Costello brought it back later in the seventies. This was a psychedelic blues instrument searing and haunting. The Hammond B3 was a richer sounding more traditional organ used. More exclusively in soul. Though vanilla Fudge and Deep Purple certainly took it to conventional hard rock with a psych flavoring.
