What a stunner. Even the underside of the wheel lip molding is bright and shiny. At least on video, the paint looks flawless. I never realized how much sculpting these had around the c-pillar/rear window area. Major upgrade on the door furniture over the Granada with it’s simple dated looking inside door release pull handles. The interior looks like a very nice place the be.
The " connection ", is how it starts Toffer and you bring back those memories of a more humble time to us. These cars have a personality, a soul if you will that shared a part of our lives, they touched us in ways that even today envoke such strong and fond memories they transport us back to that moment in time. Toffer you have a gift for making these video pieces of art that make us remember the people and the places that are so important to our lives. Thank you for taking us all along on the journey.
This gift is in recognition of all the hard work and dedication to the craft of sharing your love for unique vehicle. The giving family knew you’d be the perfect steward of this Versailles.
Thanks for this. I still have my moms '77 Versailles she had from new. It's Wedgewood blue but most surprising has only 86,000 km's on it. It's the first car I remember riding in. Still has the cb radio in it. Glad you got yours. Well deserved!
That car looks better than new! Enjoy it in good health and happiness. The donor and you are both generous in sharing this vehicle with us all. Mahalo!
Thank you for sharing your heartfelt comments!!! I enjoy all of your videos as they remind me of when I was young & the fun cars I experienced!!!! Great job my friend!!! 👍👍
When I retired in January of 2022, I started looking for a 1988 Cadillac Cimarron and a 1980 Lincoln Versailles. I settled on a 1983 Mark VI and a 1993 Allante. I enjoyed your presentation. Thank you,
That classic tune. That car is a beaut to admire. Boy if you were in California I'd pull my underappreciated 1989 Nissan Sentra right next to your car.
The Versailles is simply stunning! I am glad they did so well as to find iy a home with an enthusiast such as you, where it will be loved and pampered as it obviously was before. Well done. Growing up I used to rip on all the cars of that and similar ilk (as a younger and far more naive me drove my GTI 100 mph even if I was just going across the street), however as I look back, I can't help but feel that we have lost something that those "malaise era" cars brought to the table. I guess that when we are young, "we just don't know what we don't know". Ah, the arrogance of youth. My family had a Granada and a '78 T-bird, '70's kitsch to the max! But they were unique... gutless, lumbering, and surprisingly small inside, but old H. Ford II really wanted to provide an "american luxury" feel in an "everyman's" car. And, largely, they did! Was it truly "excellence in design" and "superior engineering"? Hmmm. What do those "terms" really mean anyway?!? I don't make cars for a living! The technology, even for the time was, to be honest, fair at best (with the Granada underpinnings tracing roots back to the first-gen Falcon, and the T-bird being in every meaningful way a '72 Torino in deep drag) while Ford of Europe was producing phenomenally competitive products like the Cortina and their Granada,... but these American cars were, well, ELEGANT! Sure, the fake wood would have looked out-of-place even in a 'Vegas wedding chapel, and one COULD ask "does the MUSTANG really need a hood ornament, whitewalls, and opera windows, but that's best left for historians to decide. I say, pile on the schmaltz! Tofer, so grateful for your efforts on your channel. You've got me thinking maybe the world needs a channel devoted to automotive literature from this era through the early 2k's. I collected materials from all over, having grown up overseas (my father represented the Navy in countries as far-flung as Iran, Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, as well as my own subsequent military service) and could only strive in vain to be able to envelop the viewer as well as you do every @#$% time. How DO you do it?!? I may need to "pick your brain" at some point in the near future, would you be game? Keep it up.
Wonderful! Your channel and content are having a positive impact, and people value that. Your passion for these cars comes through in the videos! Thanks for sharing these great stories with us :)
Simply a beautiful, beautiful car. I've always loved a Lincoln Versailles. The first time I saw one was in 1980. It was a 80 model. The owners were the neighbor's of my grand mother and grandfather. I this about that every time I see one. This is absolutely amazing, Its brought me to tears
Just again WOW just WOW just as awesome looking in the day👏those were days were cars were designed with to many rules, the cars would reflect buyer personally as my Pa had imported Studebaker Lark V8 wagon at time these cars weren’t cheap, rare n most of all with V8 they had more power then others cars on the road, cutting down travel time. One thing that caught my eye in this vid was refill nozzle at back of car as our family 75 Holden HJ Kingswood had same refill position, just fill number plate cover down to access, cool design feature. Best bit it doesn’t matter which fuel pump you pull up to unlike today cars.
You are not babbling, you're speaking from your heart. And when you do that, you are keeping them alive in the eyes of others so they're memory is never lost..
Wow, thank you for this video Tofer! It has brought back many memories. Back in 1977, my uncle (my dad's brother) brought a 1977 Versailles in Wedgewood blue with matching interior and vinyl roof. It was a good looking car and pretty fancy to say the least. Our next door neighbor brought a brand new 1977 Granada Ghia in Jade Green with matching in interior and white vinyl roof, One day, my Aunt and Uncle came over and parked the Lincoln on our driveway, and our next doors neighbors Granada was on their driveway. At this time in my life, I was 14 and starting to get into cars. My dad was always a Caddy man, and he had just brought a new 1977 Fleetwood Brougham, white with a baby blue interior and a white vinyl top (my moms choice of colors). So me and my best friend (son of the Granada owner), also my age and also into cars, decided to examine the Lincoln and Ford, and kind of do a clip board analysis. We really thought both cars were really nice in their own right. The Granada, being fully loaded, in our opinion, was just as nice as the Lincoln. OK, the Lincoln did have a beautiful leather interior while the Ford had a vinyl one, but they were both nice and plush. We couldn't believe the dash boards were exactly the same, except for the nicer trim used on the Lincoln. Unfortunately, we were not old enough to do a test drive on the twins LOL. A few years later, my Uncle suffered a stroke and was unable to drive anymore. My Aunt decided they no longer needed the Lincoln (as she had a beautiful 1979 Chevy Caprice 2 door that was easier for my uncle to get into the passenger seat), so my Dad brought the Lincoln from them for my mom to use. My mom enjoyed that car for many years and she felt very lucky to have it.
I just saw this video! Loved every min of it.. Totally know how that feeling is with a car it's definitely more than just a sum of the parts.. It's the whole experience feel and all the sensations. Have a good memory of my 10th birthday we drove down to Epcot from Columbus Ohio in a bright red on black 1980 Citation. What a great memory. Not a great car but remember the smells the sounds of that car like it was yesterday! :)
I’m a car guy and we seem to be about the same age. Not only are you videos so creative & well done, but many of the cars you feature were from my childhood. It’s nice to take that trip down memory lane. You deserve all the success you can handle! 😁
My aunt in Austin had one of those in "wedgwood" blue when I lived with her and my uncle going to school there. I loved taking care of that car. The market wasn't very kind to Versailles sales as a glorified Ford Granada, but it was a well-built, special car as far as I'm concerned.
Very beautiful car. This car was built during my senior year of high school! Being an incurable car-nut with gasoline in my veins, I drooled over many makes and models of cars. I always loved the underrated Lincoln Versailles. This beautiful copper metallic color and that "Blue Diamond Fire" color are my favorite. These Versailles were far superior to it's Granada and Monarch kin. Once Lincoln fixed the roof, it really changed the car's appearance away from the Monarch/Granada. I have driven a Monarch and a Versailles. The Versailles wins leagues over its lesser sibling.
I had a dear friend who owned a Versailles. We lost him Sunday, and this suggestion popped up today. I'm a subscriber, and this is one of the few videos I haven't seen from your channel. It really hit home, and I'm glad the AI saved it until I could fully appreciate it. Thanks.
So sorry for your recent loss. I am so glad you found this video when you did and I hope it brought some comfort. Best wishes and thanks as always for the support.
Wow, thanks so much Frank! I sincerely appreciate your support and I am so glad you are enjoying the videos. I am working at this very moment on the next Car Tale.
I get the impression you’re the same age as me. You have the same views, feelings and information about the cars as i do. I used to wonder what those cars were when I was a child. I saw some with the vinyl around the trunk, I was used to seeing the hump back with continental wrote in but that one said Lincoln it was different. But it sure was wonderful
I have always loved those car's as a little boy and always wanted one be was to your to get one and didn't have the money and now that I'm old and still in love with that model, I still can't afford one . They are so expensive
Even today in 2024, 47 years after Ford released the mid size Lincoln Versailles it looks sharp and modern. Ford should've released a revival Versailles that's a EV with 2024 technology while retaining the same 1977 body. That would have been a cool car to own in 2024 and for many years to come.
It's funny your parents had a Granada my father bought a brand new 1978 Granada that we had to look around quite a bit for because it was a fully loaded one he wanted one that was fully loaded he had got a settlement and I said why don't we just buy a fancy Granada cuz we always liked granadas and he said yeah so we called this dealer they had a demo course the demos are always loaded so you could see all the options on the vehicle and we got 1978 Ford Granada gia with the 302 with silver fully loaded power windows power locks tilt Cruise am and FM 8 track for speakers lighted vanity mirror power trunk fully loaded the only thing it didn't have was a power antenna and the cornering lights those are about the only two things that didn't have oh and a rear window defogger did not have that but it had all the other goodies valor interior it was a nice car we had it until 86 and my dad sold it to a guy that I worked with and then my dad bought a brand new 1986 Dodge d50 pickup truck that was also kind of a weird one because it was an automatic with factory air and even the guy at the Dodge dealer when we took it in cuz it wasn't blowing really ice cold the air condition he had never seen a Dodge d50 with factory air he thought we had put the air condition on some company or something I said no factory air like I've never seen it it was kind of a loaded one even though it was plain outside it had power steering power brakes air condition automatic kind of rare for a Dodge d50 little putt putt truck and that was a good truck we had it all the way up till 95 till the neighbor rolled it when they borrowed it and then we bought a 1995 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer short bed electric Red beautiful truck and then my father passed away and it was Lee so it went back a year later

This is the best gift I have ever heard of. I have no family left being left behind for being gay, and know what I leave to people means so much to me. His circumstances may be different, but it's still the same..we want what we love to go to someone who matters to us. And you were that person to hi.. I hope you understand the significance of what he did for you.
Beautiful paint job and a stunning color as well! Is the wood on the dash the real thing? The way it’s delaminating, it looks like it might be. Memories of my parents 1977 Granada Ghia which had all options except moonroof, four wheel disc brakes and (oddly) inside trunk release. It was dark Jade metallic with two tone green interior.
The wood-tone material on the dash is a weird laminate that is made to look so convincing it even deteriorates like real wood lol. I have a fix already in the works.
One more thing when it comes time for new tires for your Versailles Toyo tires or hankook tires sell white walls with the maximum load because some tires are standard load you want the maximum load tires on that heavy of a car and they're the only two that still sell white walls in a maximum load all the rest are minimum load like Goodyear vivas that you get it Walmart they're standard load and they won't handle the weight very well and you want to put White Walls I hate when I see Lincoln's and Cadillacs and big cars with black walls they look like crap you need white walls on those classic cars!!!!!!

I never owned a Versailles but I owned a 76 Granada..And it was one of the best cars I had and just floated on air..
I love your videos it brings back so many great memories for me of the cars my parents owed in the 70s when I was a kid

That car is absolutely beautiful. I’m so happy you were able to save it.
I scored a 1996 F150 for cheap today. Zero rust. Truck prices are stupid.
I still believe your Taurus video to be the most comprehensive. Can’t wait for the next tale!

Let me share a story. Back in 1994 was the first time i laid eyes on a blue 81 Imperial fs.
Was amazing. I went on to own a couple over the decades. In 2013 I stumbled on an 81 imperial fs through youtube. Car was shipped to my city. Turns out it was the exact car i first saw back in 94.

The Lincoln Versailles was the tippy top of Robert L McNamara's 18 month crash development X shell Falcon coil over a -arm suspension unibody development. An econo car hack base that ended up with variable ratio power steering, disk rear brakes, and later on, an advanced EEC II V8 crank position sensor engine control system, and the continued use of bank vault sound deadening
Love this car’
This is the best gift I have ever heard of. I have no family left being left behind for being gay, and know what I leave to people means so much to me. His circumstances may be different, but it's still the same..we want what we love to go to someone who matters to us. And you were that person to hi.. Cool 😀
amazing condition she is in
It would be Cool 😎 if you could find a Granada or Monarch in similar condition as this Versailles...
👍👍👍👍👍
What a lucky guy..Ex took mine..uggh
One more thing when it comes time for new tires for your Versailles Toyo tires or hankook tires sell white walls with the maximum load because some tires are standard load you want the maximum load tires on that heavy of a car and they're the only two that still sell white walls in a maximum load all the rest are minimum load like Goodyear vivas that you get it Walmart they're standard load and they won't handle the weight very well and you want to put White Walls I hate when I see Lincoln's and Cadillacs and big cars with black walls they look like crap you need white walls on those classic cars!!!!!!
