    With all due respect, when Bob started describing his speakers as having a line source array and drivers with spacing equal to the distance between our ears I was immediately taken to my Polk Audio SDA-SRS 2.3TL speakers and their bigger brother the 1.2's which both had multiple tweeters (3 in the 2.3 and 4 in the 1.2) in a vertical arrangement up the center of the front baffle and crossed over in overlapping frequncies top to bottom and cone drivers of 6.5" diameter (no accident) spaced roughly skull width apart to provide intreraural crosstalk cancellation such as Bob is describing here.

    Bob Carver is a maverick. Back in the day, he was a company owner and showman all at the same time. Truth be told, he is a wizard and he understands amplifier design.

    He changed HiFi single handedly and brought high end audio to the masses. Read reviews of his equipment in stereo review and audio magazines. The first Carver I bought was the AVR100 receiver. Then av405 paired with the ct27v. Now I own av705x, know this was after he left but I've had it for 17 years and it's a champ. Quiet plays loud stays cool. Nobody like him today, maybe Elon Musk.

    "Voltage times current times time = energy." Did anybody here understand that? It is quite true.

  • @Stelios.Posantzis

    54:14 Of course they are! In essence, all multi driver loudspeakers are line arrays and suffer the problems of line arrays and even though, ideally, they only account for 2 or 3 points on a line (for a 2 or 3 driver loudspeaker), their maths are already horrendous enough and that is with the drivers approximated as ideal point sources!

    I have owned Carver and Sunfire (since it was introduced) all my life. I bought 2 Sunfire True Subwoofers and BOTH are broken. Both developed a buzzing and one surges up and down. I actually spoke to Bob through email and he told me where to send them, and they came back as undeliverable., I love my Sunfires, but they worked 6 months and have been in a box for 10 years!! PLEASE anyone that can help?? All my Carver amps are still going strong, used daily for 25 years !! That is reliability.

      Any decent shop can fix them if they don't use proprietary parts.

    Bob Carver, the greatest genius in Amplifierdom, up there with Cavalli and Kevin Gilmore. Although the two latter do not have as many accomplishments as him.
    Wonder if his company could make Silver 7ts again, the value of those beasts is as high as Mt. Everest!

    I have a question:
    At th beginning of your lecture Mr. Carver you spoke of getting into th HiFi business and what you needed to do to sell your amps. But you never mentioned how your amps were being manufactured, and by whom. You were a kid then. Who trusted you enough to manufacture quality products for you?

  • @josepeixoto3384
    @josepeixoto3384 4 года назад

    Never thought i'd see and listen to these world geniuses!! Thanks RUclips.
    edit i always hated stereo; Jim Morrison never had 2 sets of vocal chords coming at you as he sang; like Bob Carver says here,in stereo you have 4 channels of music coming at you, 2 speakers times 2 ears; that is nonsense,and a gimmick to sell twice the stuff...since the 60s; i love my mono amp,have more than one, and my one speaker box with two 15 inchers in parallel to give 2 ohms; my stereo amps feed a pair of boxes tied up together,if i separate them,the 4 channels take away from the music; i want the music to talk to me,not to confound me ,i don't want to hear voices...
    Nowadays,finally,i see in the stores ONE loudspeaker for sale,not 2,and i'm glad the herd mentality is wearing off, and thinking outside of the box...

    • @rusedgin
      @rusedgin 4 года назад

      But you do realise that, since the sixties, music is mainly produced in stereo with artistic use of instruments, efects and voice separation? And he still designed a two speaker system. Regards

    • @carlosoliveira-rc2xt
      @carlosoliveira-rc2xt 4 года назад

      They sell single speakers so one can be used as a center channel for Home Theater. This would be the exact opposite since Home Theater uses many times more speakers than stereo.

    3:55 He's forgetting Bob's amp actually sounded better in the first test before he had to make it worse to prevent the Editors from telling the differences.
    Mind, these were amplifiers costing over 10x as much as his.

    Isn’t it interesting how conferences and videos on the subject of Hi-Fi have TERRIBLE sound production... 😂
    Please... guys... spend a little money on decent mics and be aware of the levels/ tonal balance when making a recording.
    Rant over🤣. In all seriousness, Thank You for the content! Interesting stuff.

    They talk like muzik you get, and that is if you get it good , not You tube or mp3, ever existed , sure some songs did, but modern songs , never existed, its a thing made by 10 ppl , in a computer , there is no sound stage , only Panorama set by producer . To say it simple , things these ppl talk about dont even exist . They say " Drums are lower then something else and this can be heard on records " I would tell him what drums , drums in modern songs are buttons , or samples . They are ignoring the reality .

    Bob is very knowledgable and talented but no talent for making audio amps or preamps that sound musical. Bright, thin and fatiguing are the traits of his audio to my ears.

      I've owned several Sunfire amplifiers and bright, thin and fatiguing are none of the audio traits on my amps.
