- One of my favorite tunes by Pat Meheny Group! I tried to inject my own thing while maintaining the style of Pat, I'm not the best "Pat Metheny emulator" out there but I love his music, this is just a small tribute :) hope you enjoy!

Je ne suis pas guitariste, je joue du trombone mais là, il est certain que j'ai assisté à quelque chose d'irréel, de surnaturel. Ce qu'il fait est d'une finesse et d'une dextérité jamais vues et en regardant sa main droite, je pense qu'il a inventé une nouvelle pratique dont il est le maitre absolu. Regardez son pouce qui n'est pratiquement pas utilisé, il se sert de 3 doigts mais le plus souvent, il n'en utilise que 2. Ses ongles sont courts, c'est incroyable. Je l'ai également vu jouer sur une guitare classique de la même manière, avec une technique de détaché délirante, toujours avec des ongles courts. Il ne gratte pas les cordes, il les frotte à très grande vitesse avec ses doigts et ça, c'est révolutionnaire. Je ne sais pas depuis combien de temps il n'y avait pas eu de génie à la guitare mais là, nous sommes servis et beaucoup vont s'en inspirer. Je ne m'inquiète pas pour lui, il a probablement 50 ans d'avance sur son premier concurrent. Bravo et bravi (car il est italien, enfin, Sicilien).
Semplicemente usa la tecnica di tutti i chitarristi classici. Ma qui c’è molto di più…

@@macroby Scusa ma il pollice fermo sul pick up e l'uso delle tre dite e senza unghie non è da chitarra classica. Non è che uno perchè suona senza plettro allora suona come un chitarrista classico. Suona come un bassista
@@maxd3339 Ciao, in un intervista lui stesso ha dichiarato che prima di suonare la chitarra elettrica ha studiato per diversi anni la chitarra classica, da lì la tecnica che usa attualmente con l’elettrica.
@@macroby Sì ma lui fin dall'inizio suonava l'elettrica cercando di imitare il padre con la classica. E' per questo che ha quasi inconsciamente innovato il modo di suonare. Poi al liceo musicale ha ovviamente suonato la chitarra classica.
Ma comunque non importa dai, è un fenomeno
@@maxd3339 impronta classica o no, è lo stile del fingerpicking guitar , ossia suonare lo strumento con le dita, con ovvi vantaggi nella polifonia … che non è poco..

Matteo's the real deal. He's not some bedroom tech shredder; he's got tons of feel and originality as well. Plus, I really dig those Yamaha's he plays. They look like they're straight out of 1975.

There are some who just cannot hear or understand what’s going on once musicians begin to solo spontaneously over form. Add to that the listener who argues vehemently that jazz is not music. I just keep my mouth shut around them. It’s not worth even beginning to try to explain how beautiful it is.
I’d like to have one of them justify a thumbs down. Seems like it’s almost an automatic percentage of dislikes on any video. Maybe a bot? I saw a kitten being saved, and it had dislikes! Maybe dog lovers?

It just doesn't seem humanly possible that someone can play that proficiently that clean and that accurate like it's just out-of-this-world huh
I think that this era of Metheny's compositions is possibly unsurpassed in all of jazz. It sounds like a grandiose statement but...the melodic content, the lyrical dimension is so beautiful it's killingly good. Matteo Mancuso is also outstanding here as well. Three cheers to both there remarkable giants. It's something I will always learn from.
Best comment , this composition is masterful and the fluidity Matteo has , is possibly only time hearing a cover of this sounds as hard hitting as original
I saw Pat a few months back as a bucket list thing. It was occasionally good, very often sleepy and adult, a few spots were simply mind blowing art- but if this type of thing was the top of the Jazz mountain.. whew.. the medium would be even less relevant- it's appeal is with other players

Unbelievable! The new star on the guitar jazz fusion sky. I have seen all his videos. He is the man!
Incredible, it's like an AI program picked up and absorbed metheny's soul and key ideas, made them even cleaner and razor sharp, then spit out a version with its own personality slapped on top of it all. Utterly incredible. Never seen such a thing.
We're all incredibly fortunate to have access to MM's stellar work. IMO this interpretation of Metheny may be his best.
As a bassist it's really awesome to see the fingerstyle technique used on guitar to play such clean and fast lines. Didn't even think it was possible

Fast guitar playing was done with fingers a long time ago on classical guitar. :)
Not with these techniques
It is difficult, the fingers normally tend to snag on thin metal strings, much easier on a nylon string. This young man's put in a lot of practice.

Beautiful playing Matteo! loved your shapes interjected into some of Pat's stuff. Masterful Right hand. Interesting fact - this Midi File used by you.. Was programmed by myself when I was 18 (20 years ago) - using that old Cakewalk software - notes inserted manually using the mouse, one by one (I must have had tons of free time back then haha). thanks for sharing the video. Back in the 90s I used to teach myself piano from MIDI files. Used Presto Arranger with the on screen keyboard, slowed the tempo to a crawl and memorised the patterns! I'm still in awe of the people who crafted those files back then.

In questo splendido ragazzo sento l'umiltà nell'approcciarsi ad un genio come Metheney, nonostante sia dotato di tecnica fuori dal comune. Il risultato è splendido, funziona. Inizio a sentire anche un suo gusto pesronale, non semplicemente un clone degli artisti che suona. Su questo ovviamente dovrà lavorare, ma la vita che ha di fronte lo aiuterà. Bravo Matteo, continua così
New favorite player. ❤️👍🎶🎼🎶🎼 plus Matteo can play all genres. His compositions are out of this world and his covers of other guitar players are better than the originals in most cases. And Matteo keeps getting better and better.

Pretty much flawless.
The difference is that Pat always seems to be struggling with the guitar, to get the best juice out of, almost chewing it it. This one here instead captures the spirit and expresses it nonchalantly as if he were going on a picnic

It seems like you completely pioneered your own right hand technique, and it works fantastically well and looks super efficient and you seem to be so relaxed that I can imagine you going on like this for hours, at a pace that would exhaust ordinary mortal jazz guitarists. Keep it up; you're one of the most exciting guitar talents out there right now for my money; I hope to see you in concert sometime!
Light gauge strings, low action not only enables the light right hand touch but necessitates it. Using a pick with this setup wouldn’t work. It’s cool how he’s found something that clearly works so well for him.
@@icecreamforcrowhurst he is not using light gauge string as I know. He once said to the authors of PimaLive (Russian yt channel) that he usually uses tens.

Ogni tanto devo deliziarmi con Matteo Mancuso ....anche per avere il riscontro che , oltre lo studio , il fraseggio di un genio determina esecuzioni che analizzate tecnicamente creano lo sconforto di una ipotetica elaborazione matematica pazzesca per chi crede che si fa musica con i teoremi e l'aritmetica . Anche se si ha la pazienza di scrivere sul pentagramma cose del genere bisogna prima di tutto , ovviamente , essere in grado di pensarle ...e questo è un talento naturale , non si studia sui libri . Matteo is an amazing guitarist. Look at his technique and listen to his tone - awesome! :-)
Matteo's technique is outwordly, but one thing that is even more impressive is the fluidity of his playing. It's so soft and seemingly effortless. The day I discovered him reignited my love for instrumental guitar, which is something that hasn't happened for me since the discovery of Guthrie Govan in 2007.

Props for that right-hand bass technique! I never thought it could be applied to guitar quite so expertly. Well done, great sound, great clarity and an even better inspiration - where's my guitar!?!
One cannot have just any type of fingers, they need to be thin/pointy enough or at least the tips. Robust "worker's hands" won't work so well. I know cause I have such and play finger style without nails, but narrow necks/string radius causes trouble. If I had a lot of money I'd have a custom guitar with widened radius at the bridge. I started off with the bass by the way. It's just more fun, feel, tone variety and compositional/expression possibilities with fingers and personally I'm just further decreasingly using a pick...
@@ytusersumone If you grow your nails out about to the point where they are even with the end of your finger (when you look at your straightened fingers from the palm side, you can barely see fingernails), you could probably have a lot more success with fingerstyle on a normal guitar. You don’t need to dig deep into the strings to pluck it, it’s almost like you just braise the top, but the fingernails help get enough volume and a sound more like a pick. A good exercise is to pick a note with the index finger and then immediately place the tip of your middle finger down, then pick with your middle finger and place the tip of the index finger on a string. This can be done with a metronome and it should sound like staccato notes. If it wasn’t clear, you do use a combination of flesh and nail.
I also hold my wrist a lot lower than matteo. He calls it a bass technique, but I learned it as flamenco picado, where a lower wrist is common. You could look into picado more if you want to go that route. Also, the lower wrist allows you to lay your thumb across the strings not in use to mute them, like you would with a pick.
I saw the video of you playing Technical Difficulties and was just blown away at the technique you had developed, so happy to check your recent uploads and see that you're still playing incredibly well!
