It appears that the Keplinger Black Iron IS unbeatable. That's my vote for the top spot, followed by the BDC, Ludwig, then Dunnett. Thanks for these videos!
1) Ludwig Copper Phonic Natural 2) Bluebird 3) Dunnett 4) Keplinger Boy is that Ludwig a beauty - but they all sound amazing. You are so good at tuning and mic´ing them!
1. Keplinger 2. Ludwig Copperphonic 3. BDC Bluebird 4. Dunnett I have 14x7 Keplinger Black Iron and Ludwig 14x6,5 Raw Copperphonic. These two drums get a lot of play time :)
This series has showed me that apparently I like Ludwig snares. Every darn time my ears choose Ludwig when my heart wants to pick something else. Has to be Copperphonic today
Nerdy stuff that may not translate to musical taste, but the Ludwig had the most even frequency range (fewest jagged peaks), then the Bluebird, Keplinger, and Dunnett according to the spectrum analyzer. So, I pick the Ludwig even though they all sounded uniquely good to me.
Ludwig CopperPhonic All day! Anything "phonic" from Ludwig always seems to be great. Also I love the natural copper look. And the hoops. Looks gritty and raw. Sounds less dry and a little rounded with the overtones. Just enough to let you know this is metal snare drum.
The toughest Drumble yet! The Copperphonic is my favourite snare drum ever and I love BDC, so I'm going to buck the trend - 1) Ludwig 2) BDC 3) Keplinger 4) Dunnett I'm sure half the appeal of the Copperphonic is the look. I guess that makes me shallow? Oh well...
If I were buying one, I'd definitely go for the BDC Bluebird. It has such a classic sound with a ton of presence. If there were some kind of objective measure, or if I was a more dynamic drummer or was playing large halls, I could see going for the Keplinger. I understand what the hype is about. With the understanding that these are snapshots of a moment in time, I'll say 1) Bluebird, 2) Keplinger, 3) Copperphonic, 4) Dunnett. They all sounded great, but the Dunnett was drier than I expected. I bet the Copperphonic sounds great tuned higher than the "tuned higher" tuning here. It also sounded good in the low tuning.
I thought the Ludwig sounded the best. And if I ever have to put a Steampunk-looking drumkit together, it would look the part as well :P I also liked the Bluebird, so that's my # 2.
Ludwig copper. It sounds good at all volumes and tunings. It probably would sound good with flanged hoops, too, because the copper is plenty dry already.
This was a tough one, as each snare is explosive in their own way. I’m leaning more to the BDC Bluebird. Just something about it sounds the most musical and refined, and a little more relaxed than the others. And I appreciate it’s simple and classic look.
Everytime I hear this Keplinger snare in your videos it blows the competition away 🥁.... and the competition is fierce here as they are all amazing drums. 1.Keplinger 2.Ludwig 3.Dunnett 4.British Drum Company Thanks for not helping my gear acquisition syndrome guys 🤣👍
I keep trying to like other brands more. This time I initially was only listening to the drums first and would only look at what it was if I liked it and the Copperphonic made me look! So: 1: Ludwig 2: Keplinger 3: BDC 4: Dunnett
What an entertaining concept for a series of videos. Keep it up! Thanks for always making the best drum videos! Keplinger for me, Ludwig Copperphonic is a close second.
Dunnett & BD Co. Beautifully made and perfect in specific ways (Klepinger Heavy Shell a Beast) but the simple Plain Ludwig is the winner to me, versatile , overtones you want and can tune in or out,
Whelp luckily for me I actually own my two favorite drums in this video… the Ludwig Copperphonic and the Kepplinger Black Iron… they both sound and record incredibly well. ❤
I have to say, the BDC snare caught my ear right away. In the tradition of old Premier metal snares, it was "snarey", a bit dry, and some underlying fatness, which were characteristic of the Premier 2000. Very nice drum! I continue to be impressed by BDC. After that, the CopperPhonic.
Dang!🤯 1 Keplinger 2 Ludwig 3 Dunnett 4 BD CO. I do believe I’d have a harder time picking first if you would’ve put a 6.5x14 Dunnett stainless. I have that drum and it’s amazing.
With lower tuning I preferred the Dunnett, but in higher tuning I preferred the Ludwig and Keplinger. I suppose it depends on how you tune your snare and what music you are playing, but I'd spend the money on the Ludwig first, then the Dunnett. Just my opinion. Great video and well done with the presentation. Thank you for the job well done.
The Copperphonic, all day long! It's got the best of both worlds: darker note with crack. I don't know if it's due to how the drum is tuned, but the rimshot doesn't produce crazy ring/sustain that lasts forever. Those are all the qualities that draw me to the Copperphonic line and why I own one. I love the extra low end and beef of my 8" deep model.
1. Dunnett--warm and fuzzy feeling from this one, tone! 2. Bluebird--if I could only use one snare, it's this one 3. Ludwig--this thing has cut! 4. Keplinger--looks alone it's a beast, then the sound, tasty
At first this was close. In the end, my ears chose the Dunnet - Classic Stainless as #1. Great sound in all situations! This drum is so deep it makes me want to re-join my high-school marching band! The Keplinger Black Iron looks like it had two bullet holes and had rolled off the back of a truck. I suppose that’s part of its charm! Sound wise, with both full and room mic’ings, the Dunnet was just a little better! Ludwig Copper Phonic I noticed an orange muffling ring - it was the only one! - I can only assume it has the same issue. BDC Blue was ringy at both high & low tunings. That's my 2 cents
I don't usually do this, but as the guy who tuned, played and mixed this video... it's the Keplinger!!
You're doing an awesome job!
Is that you Tony?
@@tinterlande hard agree on that one
@@thepluggy1 sure is 😉
@@VoVikoktotororL thanks so much!
Ludwig Copperphonic for me. Ludwigs copper drums have something magical.
It appears that the Keplinger Black Iron IS unbeatable. That's my vote for the top spot, followed by the BDC, Ludwig, then Dunnett. Thanks for these videos!
The Ludwig Copper, my favorite depth and overall sound, also because of the die-cast hoops to help enhance its beefiness.
1) Ludwig Copper Phonic Natural
2) Bluebird
3) Dunnett
4) Keplinger
Boy is that Ludwig a beauty - but they all sound amazing. You are so good at tuning and mic´ing them!
Thanks so much for the kind words!
1) Ludwig
2)Keplinger
3)Dunnett
4)BDC
This is a hard one as they all sounded great
Ludwig, I like the shell ring staying in tune with the original strike.
1- Ludwig Copper Phonic.
2 - Keplinger
3 - British drum Company
4 - Dunnett
Thank you for these videos!
Oh yes - Dark, deep, mysterious & fantastic visual appeal. The Ludwig Copperphonic. Great video - Thank you!
1 - Ludwig
2 - Keplinger
Tied for 4th BDC and Dunnett
You can hear the character of the Ludwig through the snares, less so for the others.
1) Ludwig
2) BDC
3) Keplinger
4) Dunnet
Thanks DCP!
You win! Please email adam@drumcenternh.com to get your swag.
@@drumcenternh Woot woot! Thanks.
They sound amazing but this is my opinion:
Ludwig
Blue Bird
Dunnett
Keplinger
1. Keplinger
2. Ludwig Copperphonic
3. BDC Bluebird
4. Dunnett
I have 14x7 Keplinger Black Iron and Ludwig 14x6,5 Raw Copperphonic. These two drums get a lot of play time :)
This series has showed me that apparently I like Ludwig snares. Every darn time my ears choose Ludwig when my heart wants to pick something else. Has to be Copperphonic today
Simply unbeatable--no pun intended--as versatile, consistent go-to snare drums.
LUDWIG COPPER PHONIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank You, Chris Zinn
1. Copper Lud 2. Black Iron Kep 3. Blue bird BDC 4. Stainless Steel Dun. - all great though!
Oh my! That Keplinger! Yes please!
1) Ludwig (low tuning)
2) British (high tuning)
3) Keplinger (best across all tunings)
4) Dunnett
Nerdy stuff that may not translate to musical taste, but the Ludwig had the most even frequency range (fewest jagged peaks), then the Bluebird, Keplinger, and Dunnett according to the spectrum analyzer. So, I pick the Ludwig even though they all sounded uniquely good to me.
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing that. Would love to hear about it's output on other snares I this drumble, especially the winners each week.
@@camerondean6804 No prob. It's just a browser extension called RUclips Musical Spectrum. Nothing special, but pretty good anyway.
My vote would have to go to the Ludwig copper phonic snare. It has a little fuller tone at any pitch.
Ludwig CopperPhonic All day!
Anything "phonic" from Ludwig always seems to be great.
Also I love the natural copper look. And the hoops. Looks gritty and raw. Sounds less dry and a little rounded with the overtones. Just enough to let you know this is metal snare drum.
i always want to not like Ludwig, because they are everywhere, but my ears always like them best. they have a magic that is timeless.
Yeah, it's so hard to deny just how good they are though!
The toughest Drumble yet! The Copperphonic is my favourite snare drum ever and I love BDC, so I'm going to buck the trend -

I'm sure half the appeal of the Copperphonic is the look. I guess that makes me shallow? Oh well...
Super hard to pick this week. Shallow or not, it's a KILLER drum!
The Ludwig for me, the kep in the low tuning is pretty sweet though
As someone who loves a high snare tone, gotta give it up to the Ludwig Copper. Sounds clean, even through the room mic!
Ludwig, Dunnett, Kiplinger, BDC
All are great, but to me, the Ludwig Copper Phonic takes the top spot, just edging out the Keplinger by a hair.
The Ludwig for me. Especially with the die cast hoops and classy gold hardware
1- Ludwig 2- Keplinger
The keplinger is just awesome in looks and sound. Thank you!
Ludwig
Keplinger
BDC
Dunnett

Damn fine drumble!!

Ludwig for me, in low tuning my favourite.
Ludwig copper. It sounds good at all volumes and tunings. It probably would sound good with flanged hoops, too, because the copper is plenty dry already.

Thanks for not helping my gear acquisition syndrome guys 🤣👍
Ludwig, Keplinger, BDC then Dunnett for my vote.
All brilliant sounding snares good short list guys. My No.1 choice all rounder is the Keplinger
Ludwig, because it just sounds good in room mics and also sits good in the mix!
Closest one for me so far. I'd say Ludwig and Keplinger tied for 1st, Dunnett and British tied for 3rd.
I keep trying to like other brands more. This time I initially was only listening to the drums first and would only look at what it was if I liked it and the Copperphonic made me look! So:

Glad you like it!
My vote goes to the copperphonics most dynamic over a wider tunning range.
Love these videos. My #1. British Drum Bluebird
#2. Ludwig
#3. KEPLINGER
#4. Dunnett
OMG! I won that Rogers snare drum!!! Wow!! Uh, I did, didn't I? Better call you guys tomorrow! 😂
The Copperphonic takes on the tuning ranges better. My winner
Well.. I gather that a lot of folks like the Keplinger.. but for me, the CopperPhonic killed it. CopperPhonic for the win!
This just proves I'm a Dunnett AND Ludwig guy, but hat's off to the airiness of the Dunnett!
1/ Keplinger, 2/ Dunnett, 3/ BDC, 4/ Ludwig. But I’d be happy with any of those snares. Thanks DCP, look forward to the next round.
I liked the Ludwig copper phonic.
I was surprised, but the Ludwig beat out the Kep for me this time! It’s juicier, which I like. Ludwig gets my vote this week!

1) Ludwig Copper Phonic. 2) BDC BlueBird. 3) Dunnett Classic. 4) Keplinger Black Iron. That Ludwig is Classy looking, and sounds great!
To me Ludwig win and just behind we got the keplinger.
Have to go with the Ludwig copper phonic although they are all very nice
I love the Ludwig for my uses. I have this drum and use it often. I do love the Black Iron the best in this drum off.
Hoooooo!!!!! 1. Keplinger 2. Ludwig 3. Dunnett 4. BDC
Always love a good snare off!
Ludwig, Keplinger, BDC, Dunnett.
Ludwig have some kind of luxurious darkness. #1 for me this time
Ludwig
(mine)
Keplinger
Dunnett
BDC
My first drum set was a white pearl Rogers in 1978! My vote is for Keplinger!
It’s the Ludwig for me
Whelp luckily for me I actually own my two favorite drums in this video… the Ludwig Copperphonic and the Kepplinger Black Iron… they both sound and record incredibly well. ❤
I think I actually liked the Ludwig best, then the Keplinger, BDC, then Dunnett last
Close call, but would have to go with the Ludwig Copper for looks and sound
Ludwig Copper Phonic Natural definitely
the ludwig wins this one in my opinion. it might be the die cast hoops, but these rimshots are superior. the keplinger was great as well :)
For me It's the copper phonic, pure magic this one.
Ludwig
Keplinger
Dunnett
BDC
Keplinger all the way! Mics love that drum. BDC was a shockingly good second place though.

Ludwig Copper Phonic Natural gets my vote.
Dang!🤯
1 Keplinger

4 BD CO.
I do believe I’d have a harder time picking first if you would’ve put a 6.5x14 Dunnett stainless.
I have that drum and it’s amazing.
Keplinger gets my vote. Like damn. and the Copper Phonic is absolutely beautiful!
Keplinger, that was the best sounding snare drum of all of them, just so clean and cutting.
With lower tuning I preferred the Dunnett, but in higher tuning I preferred the Ludwig and Keplinger. I suppose it depends on how you tune your snare and what music you are playing, but I'd spend the money on the Ludwig first, then the Dunnett. Just my opinion. It’s the Ludwig for me 👌🏻
I prefer the sound of the Ludwig.
Ludwig surprisingly. Keplinger right with it just think the die cast put it over the edge

Wow! What a group of snare drums! This was tough, as these all sounded fantastic. I’m going to go with:

BDC Blue was ringy at both high & low tunings.
That's my 2 cents
How are you supposed to choose between four nearly perfect snare drums? Since I must, I pick the Ludwig.
1. Keplinger 2. BDC 3. Ludwig 4. Dunnett (different depth is probably a factor). They all sounded great!
Yeah you guys are right about that Keplinger . Very controlled sound.
Ludwig Copper Phonic for me man
Ludwig, then the Keplinger.
