I think I've figured it out, the cannon fired modified grapeshot with basically no accuracy and loads of projectiles, and the centipede's explosion intensity and radius were cranked way up
TL;DR
Settings were messed with

I think the second explosion, the big one, was because he used "Antigrain warhead" Those things are useful to erase parts of the map with an explosion

The shield belt absorb the initial shock wave then broke and since there was only one shock wave he didn't get hurt
