You have to associate the sound with correction. Use a slip lead. When the dog bites make the hiss then tighten the slip lead. Same way you associate a clicker with treats.
Lol mine is also 2month old. She's a pom. She bites me everytime she sees me😂It doesn't hurt but..HER TEETH IS GROWING OK AND ITS GONNA START HURTING SOON.
Every time I heae that noise, all I can think about is the time Cartman's mother hired a dog trainer to fix him. Also, never realized how tall you were before I saw you in front of a door.
I literally followed your instruction and example whilst watching this video for the first time. After just 12 minutes I finally got to spend some quality play time with my 11week old puppy. Amazing, no bullshit instantaneous result - thank you!
We have this issue with our 1 year old rescue. We got her a month ago and no one ever told us she did it. She didn't start with us until she recovered from her spay surgery.
I am having the same issue with my 1 year rescue. He's a lab mix but very goofy for a lab. Trying to teach him not to bite and while he will stop temporarily when told, even after redirecting the behavior to his toys he will still be mouthy in other situations
It’s about perseverance and letting them know you’re being serious. The longer this isn’t done properly. The harder it is to get out. It’s a little telling that the behaviourist said this is a common issue and then all the people in the comments being like, “I can’t train my dog in this way” it’s because your dog isn’t respecting your authority. Either you need to get a trainer in, accept you’re not getting a trained dog, or change up your delivery. Most people aren’t able to train their dog and that’s ok. Nobody who isn’t an idiot assumes their an electrician when they need wiring help. Why can’t people just accept that they aren’t qualified to train a dog?
Yes! I'm having the same problem with my 10month old mastador 🤦♀️ I'm trying everything and she just isn't getting it. Well I can't say that because she knows not to bite me or mouth me but my kids and grandkids she's still doing it even though I'm trying to stop it🤦♀️ She stop's when I get after her but she waits a second and then goes back to doing it again. Hopefully she will get it soon 😊
Coach your grandkids, too! Also maybe try giving her an edible chew or stuffed Kong to work on while your grandkids run around (and keep a leash on her for correction), to help desensitize her to them. :)
You are literally the perfect example of how to properly train dogs without being harsh or violent! You are the perfect amount of strict to let the pup know to stop and then you reinforce good behaviors with positive things! Lots of love ❤️
I’m trying to do this technique. I’m basically telling the vocal cue and it just inflames her more. I add the bop to the side but again it just gets her more excited. And her collar is too loose to get head control with. HELP!
Pocket full of treats. Be abrupt and increase volume when you correct a dog vocally. give a command to sit (wait them out standing still if you have to) reward the sit with treats.
Redirecting to the toy is great for establishing what they are supposed to chew on, this method has worked great for my aussie doodle, but it must be immediately redirected, allowing any mouthing is going to send the wrong signal. Only difference with my Scout is that he responds best to authoritative NO before the redirect and reinforcement, the air sound makes him want to play more.
I’ve had puppies but my new pup is insane! Im learning not to use my hands to grab his face to stop the biting as he gets more hyper. I block and say no- if he keeps it up I leave the area. Was trying to teach him frisbee play and almost lost a chunk of my arm I may look into agility training . Can’t wait to get his dna back.
my wolfdog walks up to me and puts his mouth around my throat with only the slightest pressure. may not be safe but its cute and he has never shown the slightest aggression
I’m confused because for a split second it appeared as though you grabbed his collar? So is this an acceptable correction when accompanied with the noise? Maybe as a correction for the worst behavior the dog is displaying?
If you can't assert yourself as confidently as this guy, another trick I found that works is to shout or even scream when bitten. Puppies taken out of the litter too early often don't learn boundaries. Litter mates will whimper or even shriek when bitten and that lets the dog know they've gone too far. A few times will snap them out of it as the loud noise is quite shocking to them.
with GSD you need to be firm, consistant and train, train, train. That energy must be focused to something positive. Water work/play is an epic way to drain energy. High distraction training-a parking lot with smells, sounds and movement. Start in a quiet spot, move closer to the store as training gets established-you must build a relationship with a GSD. GSD is a lifestyle-best dog ever if you nail it!
My dog doesn’t respond to any of the snapping collar pops or the shh shh. All which I’ve seen you do as a perfect puppy course member but I am lost now
It's different when you live with the dog and puppy but randomly for a trainer the dog will listen. But sometimes the bitting behaviour chnages and it called mouthing Love during affection time. The Two or very different. The dogs are not allowed to use paws to show affention; back from the bad paw tricks: so they use there mouths only during cuddle and snuggle time with there owners but doesn't randomly do it greet strangers or friends.
I have a question ! My 5 month old German shepherd puppy bites a lot! Our noses, our ears, our toes, you name it! … but we just got her from humane society two days ago, she doesn’t seem to like to play. So when I reprimand her for biting, she lays and look sad, so I try to get her to play with toys , and she won’t play. She doesn’t play. She like to chew and that’s it, but she will chew gently… I’m not sure what I should be doing as good redirection when she does not chase or play with toys.
I have a Australian shepherd bordered collie mix dog that is one year old but yet still has a biting issue, he’ll bite you out of nowhere. When you say no or show him what to chew anything like that he will just bite more and much harder . How do/should I handle this.
I’m still trying to figure out what he did beside the whistle sound and the snapping of the fingers. The dog adjusted immediately but what am I missing??
I was “really” dumb and got 2 lab sisters because we didn’t want the one to be alone when we worked. They are almost 9 months old and I’m really struggling with leash training and when they enter or their boundaries when ANYONE comes. They have hurt my 7 year old granddaughter not from aggression but over excitement . How do I train them !!!!!
Keep them on leashes when the grandkids come over! Also teach your granddaughter the Quiet Game with the dogs. Keep them behind a baby gate when she arrives. If they get excited and jump at the gate, she turns around. When they calm down, she turns around towards them again. They stay calm, she takes a step forward. They get excited, she turns around again. They stay excited or escalate, she steps away from them....and so forth. Kids love games, and so do puppies. You can teach your pups this game just yourself and then teach your granddaughter when she visits. Eventually they will learn than calm behavior gets attention :) If they jump over the gate, get a taller one, and work on them being calm whenever you greet them at the gate and come through.i
I’m in a similar situation with my rottweiler bulldog mix. I think it’s getting a little better everyday but he still will not stop biting at my hands or feet. Playfully of course
Use a bonker and make it suck for them to bite. Every time they nip throw the bonker down on them. It doesn't hurt them. Just makes them go , "oh shit. My bad".
I have thos issue with my 5 month Sheppard. I have tried what you suggest in the video but he still is as much a biter and chewers now as then. Help please any other advice

The noise works for cats too. I've done the same noise when my cats use their claws too much and they've all understood very quickly that they hurt!
This is the silliest advice I've ever heard 😂
Love your videos, Will
Thank you sir! My puppy is 7 months as well and hasn't gotten past the puppy biting stage so I've been looking for ways to get him to stop.
He’s hitting the dogs pressure point which is near his hind legs thigh stomach area in case you wanna try it. Works wonderfully.
It’d be nice if he pointed out important things like that out, rather than seemingly selling a “cure all” to the issue.
No he’s not lol
