We Messed Up

We made a mistake in our review of the Vivo Barefoot Magna Light WSG boots, giving them a little more credit than they probably deserved. After further testing and feedback, we found that their water resistance is significantly compromised when the boots get dirty, which we initially overlooked. While they still perform well in dry conditions, we can't recommend them as highly for situations where water resistance is crucial.

I'd make sure your viewers understand the difference between "water resistant" and "water proof". Water resistant is my preferred type, as they breathe (and dry out) much much better than "water proof". I do agree with your correction here though, as water resistance (i.e. "keeps light water exposure out") should indeed have some sort of material in the shoe that doesn't rely 100% on the DWR coating (which is what fails when dirty).

I understand why they should, yet I cannot help but think that people should know the difference, or at least look it up. For the most part, if anyone is trying to go outdoors, they need to understand many different words when looking for outdoorsy marketed products. I get misunderstanding of words, people buy things all the time that have a claim they are looking for, but the claims being made are of a lesser degree. Such as this resistant and proofed debacle. I have fallen for my negligence many a time, now when I think I know something, I make sure to find out if my thoughts are correct.

i am looking for shoes that have a wide toe box and no to little toe spring and heel raise but at the same time looks fashionable and can be used for daily life. i really want to get the Magna lite MG SR but i'm scared it might not have the wide toe box i want. Do you know the width of its toe box so i can compare to feet and then decide if it suits me. My shoe size is 45. and my toe box width is about 9 cm ( measured from the very sides of the big and small toe)
do you think it will enough, if not can you recommend some other shoes with the same qualities but also look fashionable ( preferably black) i suffer from plantar fascitis so keep that in mind

We've tested lots of Xero Shoes and find their toe boxes to be nice and wide. Plus they have nice looking street shoes!

Just being dirty doesn't matter. I wore these for the first time... 20 minutes walking through dew wet grass this morning. My socks were soaked through and feet cold at the end of 20 minutes. Pretty disappointing since this is what I bought this WR shoe for. (I didn't buy this on your recommendation, don't worry!) I am returning these to get/try the Magna Forest ESC. It is a shame, because I did find this shoe insanely comfortable!

I love my Magna Forest ESC. My absolute favourite hiking shoe! They’re a bit overkill for most hikes but for harder hikes, no barefoot shoe comes close.

We shot an update to this review after more testing and found the water resistance...not great. That said, we grabbed some Nikwax to help in that department.

I have the tracker forest ESC….exactly the same, walking through grass etc, soaking socks. In fairness I wasn’t disappointed as it was clearly advertised as being ‘not waterproof,’ but just be aware the Forest ESC is also not waterproof!
