    Something that breaks my heart about zines is the cost of shipping makes them a really bad value proposition when buying them from the states to get shipped to Europe. Last I checked mothership stuff doubles in cost when shipped to my home country. I wish there were collective presses that could print these small zines on demand to author''s specifications. Right now I buy the PDFs and take them to a printer(slightly cheaper than transatlantic shipping).

      About to start reading/playing the Labyrinth RPG with my fiancee!
      If you don't mind me asking, are you playing a duet game? (1 GM 1 Player) If so, does the game support that kind of play well? Or did you have to make some adjustments?

      The realm of the Goblin King is connected to Dolmenwood!

    • @randomsleepyness
      @randomsleepyness 3 года назад +1

      @@sapientmuffin yes we are running it as a duet! No major changes, but she did get very attached to a knight of yore named Lady Hester who is going through the labryinth with her to the end. We also are dueting a 5 campaign using the sidekick rules, so that's more of what shes comfortable with. The scenes have all worked just fine solo so far. Best of luck with your adventures!

    Is there any indication in "Beyond the Borderlands" about which printer they used? Those colors are beautiful!

    It's really great you bring these to light. There's so much cool material out there that just waits for the right audience. It's also fun to hear about it and see even if it's not quite my cup of tea. Beyond the Borderlands looked lovely though.

    Love the zine reviews! Though I had purchased a couple of the ones presented here already it's interesting to see what is inside the others and your thoughts on some of the content.
    There are SO many zines out there and their quality varies wildly. To compound that problem there are usually very few reliable reviews for zines online, so I appreciate this video very much and hope there will be more where this came from. :)

    For the borderlands I'd assume that if you roll the party's desired direction, that means the party does not become lost
    I also think that degradation dice have a psychological effect. "Each torch could be your last"

    Love these zine reviews. Keep on the Borderlands was in second evolution of the D&D Box Set and included the Keep and the Caves of Chaos. Beyond the Borderlands and the planned follow ons seems to be a modern OSR, does that phrase "modern OSR" even make sense, reinterpretation.

  • @mikegould6590

    Just so you know, Keep on the Borderlands and Caves of Chaos are not different modules. The Caves are the Dungeon of the Keep setting.

    Really neat stuff. Thanks for sharing it, Ben. I'm always finding out about weird, cool stuff that I wouldn't have found out about, otherwise, on this channel.
    BTW, does anybody have tips about what software is best for desktop publishing? Word? Adobe Acrobat? Something else? A friend of mine and I are working on our own TTRPG in Word. It's $0 budget and we're not planning to make money off of it, but we still want it to look its best and be laid out in a useful way.

    • @ShaneP427
      @ShaneP427 3 года назад +1

      They're much shorter than magazines, and often made with lower expectations of quality or completeness. (Though, people have been taking them pretty seriously lately, and we've been getting some top notch stuff.) It's a whole different format of book from a magazine.
