10 years ago, I lost my best friend to, sadly, a heart attack at the young age of 35. One of his brothers got in contact with Chris from a mutual friend that trained at the gym in Long Island. Chris was so kind to sign a bunch of items to help raise money with a raffle party they did to help his wife and two daughters in a time of need. He did not know anything of the family and still took the time to do it. Money was raised because of him. A total class act person and I am forever grateful of his kind-hearted generosity. Long Island strong, and this man is exactly that

people should understand how serious the consequences of this sport are. to do it as a profession even just a hobby you are lucky if you make it 10 years even five years without a permanent chronic injury that requires surgery or simply becomes something you have to live with. chris is still fighting for money period. the man has a family. its a lot of money for one night. even if he didn't train as much as he should it still beats anything else. former champs stick around to long because they pay is good and they put their entire lifes energy and physical health to get there.
chris is still top notch. he could still beat the champ but he has soooo much working against him now at this point. This sport is incredibly unforgiving. you could argue chris's end came due to a late stoppage vs rockhold before the leg injury even happened or maybe even before then due to the toll of extreme weight cutting on the body. This sport is unforgiving. I have only seen people partially come back from things like this and it was aided and maintained by PED use otherwise i'm not seeing people recover back to old form from these positions.
anderson silva continued to fight and lose and all under the front that he was doing it because he is infinitely passionate about martial arts and challenging himself . I dont buy that. anderson at the top of his run set up an extremely expensive hard to maintain life style for him and his family. If he did not take the fights at the end of his career if he did not fight jake paul as well i think this man would surprisingly be struggling to have solid income and would have had to down grade everything for his family. . so maybe some of it is the passion to compete and be there on the big stage but i think when it really comes down to it its all about milking as much money out of it as you can until the end finally comes.
