The fact that this fight is so drawn out emphasizes how far gone and tragic claus is. It would've been so easy to have a short sequence where claus goes back to normal and all is good, but the ending is long, and depressing, to emphasize that even though good technically defeated bad, good did not win
Most of the actual 'fight' as far as the player is concerned is mostly just 'don't die' which.. yeah I guess if you're relying on Psi for that the Real Bat actually does come in handy over the mystical stick.
I can imagine Porky just peeking out the window of the Absolutely Safe Capsule and laughing like the madman he is over this entire scenario, he's got a front seat to a fight that ultimately, will cause irreparable damage to Lucas and what remains of his family once again...even if he "wins".
Form where the only window, Porky probably won't be able to see it And Porky at first was just a jerk, but then slowly through out Earthbound, became evil
I just realized that Claus’s sitar (His battle instrument) that plays the first time you fight the masked man doesn’t play when he hits you in the final battle. It just shows that he’s completely lost himself.
Yeah the song is disturbing. Probably the most unnerving track in the series. But whenever I re-listen to it. I can't help but get misty-eyed. It perfectly depicts how far gone Claus is, mentally. There's the beginning which sounds like a heartbeat. Then it starts sounding very disturbing. Then you hear the Love theme here and there, which I feel represents the shattered memories he still has of his family. And then you hear this series of notes in a sequence speed up faster and faster then drop back down, which can represent how fast his mind is racing. And then of course throughout the actual fight, or lack there of, Lucas does not want to fight him. And even starts crying as his own twin brother, who he loves and has spent the entire game searching for, is sitting here beating on him senselessly. And all he can do is defend himself. It's truly heartbreaking. I remember softly weeping during this entire fight. Whenever I first experienced the game. And then crying out loud after what happens at the very end..
Worse still on the fight... Lucas CAN attack after his dad tanks Claus' PK Love. Like, yes, brother or not, he hurt your dad badly!... then mom's ghost starts crying and asking to not hurt brother anymore
all you can hear is the s edit: the rest of the letters are actually just the drumkit sounds (more specifically the same cymbals you hear at the end of pork bean pork bean before it loops)

A great battle theme. The bassline is relentless, the glissando synths provide an unnerving quality to the music, whilst the other samples and sound effects add a lot of power. The drums come in sporadically, and ocasionally mix with the bassline in such a way that it makes it seem like a coherent piece of music is about to make itself clear, only to be interrupted by the very harsh and dense stabs. My favourite part about this song, however, is the piano, which does all sorts of interesting and unsettling things, including the part where it starts swirling and moving in stereo. one thing i'd like the point out is after the distorted "love" theme comes in, the song loops back to the beginning. I like to think of the abrupt cutoff of the love theme as claus/his memories getting shut off, then the slow powering-on sound accompanied by the heartbeat as if his heart/memories are being reset before he feels enough to stop being the cold, unfeeling machine porky wants him to be
I have read of people who believe that the heartbeats that sound at the beginning are those of Claus, believing that his heart continues beating and that Claus's consciousness continues deep in his subconscious, I actually believe that the heartbeats are those of Lucas himself. , beating so loudly and resonating in his own head with the feeling of seeing his totally dehumanized brother turned into a machine completely and without reasoning.
Seeing that Claus, a cheerful and brave boy, was killed then revived as an emotionalless killing machine of a slave to Porky who is mentally the same age as him, using him to awaken the Dark Dragon to erase all of reality. Yea far more disturbing as this kind of screw up does happen in real life.

I am 200th comment!
Just Like This Song, My Future Song: Battle Against the Cybernetic Clone/Battle Against N-1, It Tells A Story.
The First Part Represents, The Final Showdown Between, Shadow. And N-1.
The Second Part Represents, Nathan Having Hope That. N-1 Wins.
Third Part Represents Despiration For Both Sides.
Final Part/Unconditional Love Theme Represents, Saddness, Love, And Hope, Because, Nathan Still Believes, There's Still Good In Shadow.
And It Is Even More Sadder, When You Realize, Shadow, And Nathan Were Brothers.
The Lyon Squad Franchise Is Fun, And All, But It Can Get Really, Sad And Really Dark, And Make You Very Emotional.
