I was in Jr. High when this hit the radio. It was great to be able to grow up when this kind of music was popular. The 60's and early 70's excellent bands and music.
With spectacular pinpoint harmonies THE ASSOCIATION will always make WINDY a never to be forgotten, jubilant feel good 1960' s masterpiece. Thanks for sharing I loved the visuals.ar
This is a time when an artist needed talent to make it big.The record companies went out and searched for talent and pushed to have them played on the radio. You don't need talent today because AUTO-TUNE can make anybody sound great. You don't even have to write your own lyrics because they have a pro who can do that. As long as you can shake you ass and expose as much skin as possible they'll make you a star for as long as possible. Miley,Justin and Rap is proof of this.
Denis, you've got it exactly right. I can't listen to the radio today. It makes me want to upchuck! The lyrics take absolutely no imagination to write. And it doesn't take the modern music industry to turn someone who is somewhat talented into a complete dead-head. Taylor Swift is a case-in-point. Her songs used to sound fresh and creative. Now her music sounds like complete crap because her record company is trying to appeal to a bunch of brain-dead zombies who haven't got a clue to what good music really is.
Denis468 You are ignorant about auto tune. It cant make a person that cant sing great at all. If you can sing it can certainly make you sound a lot better but if you cant sing, it wont help you at all.
Very true, but along with benefiting from the record companies' bottomless agent budget, we had to buy 90% of music we didn't want to get to the 10% we wanted. That was pretty big $ back then, too.

In July 1967 this song was five consecutive wk. #1.More popular than Beatles' All You Need Is Love,Doors' Light My Fire,Monkees'Pleasant Valley Sunday,Jefferson Airplane'Somebody To Love.Windy is the great tune.
@@theanswerisinthebackofyourhead Does that include my friend Gail? Her nickname is Windy because of the meteorological connection, so this is her song!
HEY FELIX I USED TO HEAR THIS SONG BACK IN THE EARLY TO MID 70S ON THE LOCAL RADIO STATION WHICH WAS W.A.K.Y WACKY RADIO IN LOUISVILLE KY, AROUND 72 73 . I NEVER KNOW WHO SANG IT AS A 8 OR 9 YR OLD KID BACK THEN BUT I LOVED THIS SONG, ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS. YRS LATER I HAD HEARD OF THE ASSOCIATION BUT ONLY WAS FAMILIAR WITH ALONG COMES MARY, AND WAS GLAD AFTER YRS OF NOT HEARING THIS SONG BEFORE THE INTERNET ON WHO SANG THAT SONG, AND WHEN YOU WATCH THEM IN EVERY VIDEO THEY DO, THEY LOOK LIKE THEY ARE HAVING THE TIME OF THEIR LIFE SINGING WHATEVER SONG THEY ARE PERFORMING, THESE GUYS LOOKED SO MODEST AND HUMBLE LIKE YOU COULD APPROACH THEM IN A BAR AND TALK TO THEM ABOUT ANYTHING. UNLIKE LENNON OR JAGGER AND ESPECIALLY RICHARDS WHO OVER THE YRS HAVE PROVEN TO BE UNAPPROACHABLE IF SPOTTED, AND I USED LENNON AS AN EXAMPLE AS I HEARD A STORY YRS AGO THAT HE WAS IN A RESTAURANT AND SOMEBODY NOTICED HIM AND ASKED FOR AN AUTOGRAPH AND THE REACTION WAS MORE THAN A WHAT A TORNADO COULD HAVE GIVEN IN TORNADO ALLEY IN KANSAS. BUT THEY JUST SEEM AND ACT LIKE GUYS YOU WOULD JUST CALL FRIENDS WHO ACT NORMAL IN EVERY DAY LIFE.
WHAT A GREAT FEEL GOOD SONG THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND JUST FLY THROUGH THE AIR. I WISH MUSIC WAS STILL THIS GOOD BUT IT ISNT, IT ACTUALLY SUCKS BUT AM GLAD THAT RUclips CAN TAKE ME TO ANY SONG THAT I WANT TO HEAR.
Made many a weekend from the "Circle" to Port Authority, 1964-65 most always had a full car sometimes I even had reservations those were the days rt. 17 - 58 - 258 to 95 N. at Rocky Mt. What a haul. Could only get WOWO radio (Indiana) until we hit the Jersey Pike when the NY stations came in...missed only two weekends in two years. Trippin on the "No-Doz" LOL.
My friend and I were trying to analyze this song. We decided that Windy is a dead person that the Associations are singing about because she has wings to fly like she’s an angel, The memories of her are great.
What a band! In my youth I loved 'em and still do.Best song? 'Along Comes Mary.' Takes me right back to my 16 year old self on the beach with my portable tape recorder and playing them LOUD in England and loving them!!! Along...later...with steely Dan. fantastic music.
Dillon Ha Ha!! I've lived with THAT for a few years I can tell you.Fortunately the current generation aren't as well clued up about MASH as we were so the jokes are non-existent these days. I'm no longer a Major by the way...promoted to Colonel now!!
Frank Burns I still got a crush on hot lips! Don't tell my wife that. How long did you serve? PS,,, Did you ever meet BJ Honeycutt? Thought you might of in the series.Peace out.

incense & peppermints was actually from the fall of 1967
Agreed. This song, Light My Fire, and Penny Lane were what made '67, for me, the best year listening to my AM radio.
Best mix I ever heard of this song. Kudos to all.
I sang this to my Late Wife, soon after we met. She hadn't a clue.

Another cool aspect is in the bridge ... they play a head game with us, offering a strange 4/4 but making us think it's mixed meter (6/8 and 5/4).
Perhaps the premier release from the Summer of '67....among many great ones.

i may be rude, lewd & crude, dude, but thing song is a great advert for the 60's.
it's not shakespeare but even bill could be rude; didn't he write 'the tempest',
which is a bit stronger than just 'windy.'
did a say 'thing song'? i meant this song.

I got a question whats that weird sounding instrument that kind of sounds like a harp or some kind of keyboard that is being played throughout the song?
Sorry, tried to check it out but I couldnt' hear or figure out the sound you described like a harp or keyboard.
Not sure if you mean the woodwind solo or the pseudo riff being played perhaps by an acoustic organ?
neither... just as I said, I couldn't hear anything strange therein.
I think it's a harpsichord.
