I was just thinking earlier today that I should increase my understanding of biology (stem major, don't come across biology much in school). Thanks Hank and team!
I don’t recommend doing a biology degree to be honest at least in the US. The job market has changed especially after covid and it can be really hard to get something with decent pay with just a bachelors. The best jobs in pharma and biotech will require a PhD but even then I think it’s kind of a scam because you are doing 6 to 9 years of additional education while making very little just to make less than people in legal and buisness development. It’s a fine degree for an aspiring doctor but it won’t help you to stand out from the larger applicant pool. The life sciences are still a great field to get into but as a student you will have better options if you take a degree that has some kind of coding or engineering component.
Hey, how about Hank does a video on statics so we can figure out how big a percentage of scientific RUclips channels he is involved in? Not complaining --love the content -- but wow does he show up in a lot of channels.

Very crazy but im 30 yrs old construction worker an i really am dreaming of a career because i love healthy clean creeks an wildlife an plants/ herbs, id love some advice/ tips please if someone wants to comment
I actually want to become a biologist but i also want to have knowledge of medicine (basically doctor) so that i can treat myself and people around me whenever needed...but i don't want to practice as a doctor rather i want to do research and explore life (different animals and plants and other species how they can contribute to the world and how we can help them to survive) So please suggest me for which degree i should go.....should i go for mbbs or bsc or any other degree
Hey, if you think you wouldn't like to practice as a doctor then I don't recommend mbbs. I do Biological Science and I'm so so so in love with it. By choosing Biology you can totally engage in research and go into the health filed, researching about illnesses so you can help people. I feel the exact same as you, I love helping people with research but I'm not cut out for practising as a doctor. I think you'd be fulfilled by being a biologist
I'm in a similar situation, i almost finished my degree in dietetics and I love almost everything about the human body, i would have no problem in studying and knowing the same as a medical doctor in terms of knowledge on physiology of the human body but i don't want to actually have patients that are bleeding and dying to save. Instead of giving drugs or doing surgery i would like to be help people with the right diet for their medical condition. The problem is that (at least in my country) dietitians depends too much on medical doctors we are basically nurse of nutrition here so i just ended up hating it.
I'm doing a uni Bachelor in Biology right now. For me, I think it was a big mistake. I like the effects of science, cool facts and deepening my knowledge slightly. But I get headaches from microscopy, I thought I liked microbiology, but I get scared the more I learn about diseases and worms and stuff, I just like fermentation. I don't like learning the many many names, I think sometimes going into that much detail and naming shit is just a human pasttime for crazy people. Basically I like having science, but hate doing it, it's boring, longwinded and often not as cool. I don't like being devoted to one such discipline is something for me, I have a professor who's life goal is basically describing and naming flatworms... The reality is, time is short, we only have like 80 good years to use in a life, if you're lucky, and the way it's going, I'm living a boring life that I will regret very badly. I already regret some choices from my life, and I couldn't even drink ethanol in the USA yet! TL,DR: Science can be fun for some people, but think about your choices carefully, science these days is mainly documenting, experimenting and keep repeating. Maybe fieldwork for some, long hours always. Follow your dreams I guess, but don't get your hopes up about making the world a better place for all using science, if that's your goals, it's a shitty one, a drop in a bucket.
It's not a joke. Someone sold me this cosmetic product online which had this yellow organism thing living in it. It's been on my skin for now 8 years. Noone has helped me. I have tried using the hottest water I can tokerate but it simply won't come off. It's greasy and yellow and you can tug at it on the skin surface. Does anyone know what it is? I have seen several Gaps and 6 dermatologists. Someone must know. Please help me.

This video was very helpful. I am starting fresh in the healthcare field, it is so much to choose from in the medical and health care field as far as careers. I just wanted a versatile degree to start of with. Thank you so much for this video it was very helpful.❤
I was just thinking earlier today that I should increase my understanding of biology (stem major, don't come across biology much in school). Thanks Hank and team!
As a (somewhat) recent bio grad who works in a lab, I approve of this video
Know anything about weird yellow organisms that can stay on your skin for 8 years?
I'd really like to get this off my skin. Its driven me mad.
@@harry011984 that sounds like something you should talk to your primary care physician, and/or a dermatologist about
Wooow. I'm 31, but I wish I had this in my high school years. Love ya Hank; John, too.
Thank you for this, I'm debating between chemistry or biology to get into medical school and I'm pretty sure I will take biology after watching this.
I’m interested in chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physics, and calculus
Same. What major did you get?

고마워요 도움이 많이많이 되고있어요 :) (means i love your videos🥰)
This was so refreshing, there are so many fear mongering vids about how this major is useless or that you shouldn’t pursue it
i want to go into cancer research because my grandma died from lung cancer when i was 10. i got really badly bullied in primary school and she was the person that got me through those years. she was my best friend and i want to spend my life making sure no one else has to lose their best friend like i lost mine.
I wanna go into cancer research too ❤ I'm a third year Bio student and I'm so eager to go into masters and phd later
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏🎩🎩🎩
You gotta make one of these about mathematics
I’m hoping to do my phd in astrobiology, and maybe even work in nasa to work in their astrobiology sector
Me too, my biggest dream
I'm majoring in aerospace engineering but I'm fascinated by genetic engineering and biotech. For example, we can make plants that create their own fertilizer from atmospheric nitrogen
Could you make one on neuroscience please? From a desperate student.
I always wanted to be an entomologist. But now I’m just a stupid economist.
Reject money return to insect
@@Jaydon_Perez if I don’t have kids and have the money I’m hoping I can do so before I’m 40.
Hank! I love you but I currently feel like I'm disappointing you for constantly thinking about dropping out of college because I'm overwhelmed... my current goal is to literally not fail all my exams... I wish I could just study without the exams...
There is no such thing as disappointing Hank! Everyone's eduction path is different, if you need to take a break because you're overwhelmed that's ok! But try to seek out support from your school first. Wishing you all the best!
Good video, it's ok to be smart
This is really helpful!
Do Philosophy next!
Hoopefully in the next season - fingers crossed! But the closest to philosophy in this first run of Fast Guides was Interdisciplinary Studies and Political Science. Depending on the department, PoliSci may focus heavily on political philosophy and its dialogue with moral dilemmas and ethical systems. But I encourage you to check out Study Hall's Community post encouraging viewers to suggest majors for future Fast Guides! I've suggested philosophy and a few others there, and I encourage you to suggest philosophy there too! :)
good video guys!
I have a Bachelor's of Science in Biology. This is so relatable.
TLDW: biology can lead you to any multiple direction
Could you do a more specific one on perhaps Marine Biology, please?
1:12 😻Puppy!!! 🥰
I enjoy marine biology so much and just biology in general. But I'll be completely honest, I am afraid I'm not smart enough for this career path. I have tenacity and a passion for learning but a job in the field feels intimidating. Idk it discourages me. Any advice would be helpful thanks 💙
Tenacity and passion for learning is what counts when you're pursuing a major! There is no such thing as being "smart enough," maybe some people have an easier time with some classes but don't let that intimidate you. Regardless of major the best advice we can give you is to explore your passions and maybe take some foundational biology classes before starting your major. We will input your suggestion for a marine biology Fast Guide video!
@@studyhall thank you so much for this!
@@studyhall will you help me identify this yellow organism that is functioning as some kind of parasite on my skin. Please someone help me understand this. I have seen like 8 GPs and 6 dermatologists. What the hell is happening? It's just some greasy odd yellow thing.

Not me wishing I chose to be a science education major instead of English... I'll just get certified for both, problem fixed, kinda... so much writing...
A bachelors in clinical laboratory science is more valuable.
Biology is the worst college degree. You may get a career in a lab if you have a master's. Also I met people with masters degrees that are working as high school teachers. Trust me , DO NOT listen to this video. I am a BIOLOGIST and biology degree sucks. NO JOBS.... < 40 k per year
Just finished my Bachelor's degree in plant biology and plant biotechnology. I am confused if there are any opportunities. What I can do about that, @Study Hall
Watching this a year deep into my biology masters degree lol
Very crazy but im 30 yrs old construction worker an i really am dreaming of a career because i love healthy clean creeks an wildlife an plants/ herbs, id love some advice/ tips please if someone wants to comment
I don't know what to do with my biology degree after I get it.
I really enjoy marine biology and would love some advice on what it takes to pursue that career. Help please! 🐬 🐋 🐙
Can you microbiology next?
I actually want to become a biologist but i also want to have knowledge of medicine (basically doctor) so that i can treat myself and people around me whenever needed...but i don't want to practice as a doctor rather i want to do research and explore life (different animals and plants and other species how they can contribute to the world and how we can help them to survive)
So please suggest me for which degree i should go.....should i go for mbbs or bsc or any other degree
@@ArtificialSuicid Thank you for taking your precious time to reply.
I'm grateful for your satisfying advice.
@@ArtificialSuicid which place are you from?
@@q1803hg I am from Brazil :) You're welcome, hope I could help
TL,DR:
Science can be fun for some people, but think about your choices carefully, science these days is mainly documenting, experimenting and keep repeating.

Getting to know more with an acknowledgment designation accepted by society is a wealth privilege (even if you get a loan, that's a privilege many can't get). So I love your content but this series doesn't do anything for an ever growing swath of our nation.
I need a reality check people, I am thinking about a degree in Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences (Conservation Biology and Ecology) at ASU. I'm a 50 year old man in love with the world and all living things, I'm close to retirement from my current profession (having nothing in common with this) and would like to maybe be a Park Ranger, work at a Zoo or anything having to do with preserving our planet but any ideas would help, thank you.
Totally go for it! I'm a third year Biological Science student and I'm so so so in love with it ❤ You already seem to have a great idea of what you want, and your goal is totally reachable and honourable, go for it!
@@ArtificialSuicid Thank you for you encouragement. @thetexan8365 Studying a Science as a major has been a privilege, definitely the best choice I've made in my entire life, it makes me happier than any other thing in life. In Bio, we study a lot of Chemistry to understand how atoms make up molecules and these molecules make up all living beings. We also study math to understand about statistics we have to make in papers we publish. Physics is also required to understand phenomenons like how animals are able to run, insects walk above the water, live in freezing cold waters and so on... The journey so far has been amazing and I'm sure it will be for you to. Good luck on this academic road trip ❤️ I wish you the best of luck on your studies
