  • For those in search of a well-rounded ebike, without too much bling, the T1 and T1ST are both under $2,000. They both rip on and off road and are fun to ride!

I own the ST1 and after some modifications, I have to give the bike two thumbs up. I changed the pedals, added a Suntour suspension seatpost, Pirelli gravel tires which operate on a lower pressure and take out some of the front fork's harsh ride, a new stem to raise the bars and give me a more upright position, and I was able to mount the light on the stem. I also added a motion sensing taillight to the rack which glows brightly when I slow. By going with a new stem, I got rid of the phone mount, which conceptually is a nice idea, but I did not want the mounting device permanently affixed to my phone case. I also purchased a small wireless bike computer to keep track of my speed and mileage. The bike is very fast and handles well, especially with the mods I did. I got the bike at the $1299 price and the total cost of the mods is just under $250, the tires being the most expensive of all of them. I also do NOT use the FindMe app, which uses battery power, albeit very little, even when the bike is off. I also have a Tern HSD S11, but while that is an absolutely great ride, the ST1 is just way more fun. My complaint about the bike is the lack of an easily removable battery. Living in Minnesota without a heated garage, I like to bring my batteries in during the winter and with the ST1, I am going to have to remove it and store it until the weather breaks. I like riding in the winter and I guess, I will be on the Tern as taking out and putting the battery back in could be a real pain. I am 76 and I work in a bike shop where we sell high end bikes like Tern, Orbea, Bianchi, Benno, and Reise & Mueller, but for the money, the ST1 cannot be beat. I live in a very hilly section and the bike can handle the hills, too. Again, two thumbs way up!!

Great post! 76 and pedaling - awesome! Please tell me about your tail light; it sounds like a great safety item. And you mention removing the battery; have you done that yet? If yes, how difficult to remove and replace?
      Thank you!

Great vid. Got the T1 just because I liked the crystal black color. Starting to appreciate the extra tech now though..

With the velotric T1st when you rode it with out power on did the bike drag or did it feel like a regular bike? Could you adjust the handle bars up or in and out? I hope these questions make sense to you.

Thank you for the review, sir. Glad to hear this from a local boy. I like to ride at Mount Diablo, is it possible to change the front chain ring on the T1 ST? I would like to make it perhaps 36 teeth instead of 42 teeth.

Thanks for the review! I know you have a 20 mile commute one way and you charge at work, but what is the range youre getting with the T1 ST? I'm hoping 30 miles is doable.

St on sale for $999 hard to justify 600 more for some tech on the thunder

I agree! The ST is real solid. I prefer it because the lack of tech

If both ebike share the same guts except the frame configuration or ride position then why T1 is $500 more than T1 St. More software technology worth that much ? Thanks for added info.

Yep, that’s what I’m assuming. More tech and there’s more range with the T1, at least on paper. There’s something with the Smart+ motor with the T1 over the ST
