100 Miles On An E-Bike! Velotric T1 Review

- For years, I didn’t understand the appeal of an e-bike. As a guy who didn’t get much exercise, bicycles were one of the few ways I could “work out” - and an electric bike sounded like it would take that exercise away from me.
But as more electric options started to creep into the Citi Bike stands surrounding my south Brooklyn home, I started to understand that e-bikes don’t eliminate exercise; they just let you choose how much work you want to do. So when a company called Velotric invited me to test out a new e-road bike designed for “urban and beyond”… I decided to see just how far beyond I could go - with a two-day bike ride from my New York City apartment to my childhood home.
I’m Michael Fisher and this is MrMobile’s 100-Mile Review of the Velotric T1!
NOTE: Velotric changed the name of the e-bike following production. The official name as of 12 July 2023 is the "Velotric T1."

I'm not here for the tech review, but for your unique, different and fresh way of story telling, hearing you is like going to my teenage times every-time, so amazing
That part!
Well that’s weird…
Hence why the channel is so popular and unlike the rest of the tech reviewers on the tube
@@cp37373 why
You hit the mark perfectly.
This is an absolutely massive undertaking by someone that doesn't ride. Well done for even attempting it.
Yep easier said then done as you have to built up to it. I use to train when use to MTB and even if in shape going 100 miles is not easy especially when back then e-bikes we’re not around. Hence why cyclists love lighter bikes. E-bikes makes exploring great again, even when not as in good of shape. It motivated me to go back to the gym and train again.
Your realisation at how wonderful trails are is something us urban cyclists and commuters have been wanting globally for decades. It's so nice because there are no cars nearby.
Yes! My commute to work is 45 minutes on a main road or 55 minutes following a winding bike path. I don't need to tell you which option I take.
Definitely bike paths/trails are enjoyable. No cars and peaceful, plus can explore areas you normally wouldn’t as trails here go to other counties and cities even. Then you have rest areas.
Something I wish they had more trails back in the day when use to MTB a lot younger and I was in better shape and when I use to ride for fun.
trails are great. I took the train from smithtown to port jeff this past weekend with my bike and did another nearby rail trail, the Setauket-Port Jeff station trail that’s slightly shorter. While it was awesome to have a paved protected path, it would be nice if the trail was functional and lead somewhere, specificlaly downtown Port Jeff. One end spits you out to a very small parking lot on a very narrow road & the other is a park and ride parking lot with no protected access downtown. Better than nothing, but I wish it were more functional.
Carrying 4 phones and a drone on a bike ride is the most MrMobile thing ever, and I am here for it
Hey there! I just stumbled upon the Freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike, and it seems to be an exciting new project. The fact that it can be charged indoors is a game-changer. As an eBike user, I'm always looking for innovative features that enhance both my indoor and outdoor riding experience. The Morph eBike's brushless 750W motor and smooth suspension make it perfect for conquering any terrain. Plus, the IPX5 Waterproof finish ensures I can ride in any weather condition. It's great to see how this eBike combines fitness and technology seamlessly. Can't wait to explore more about the Freebeat Morph eBike!
Honestly, I'd like to see more content like this from you. You're one of my favorite tech reviewers and watching this is not only entertaining, it is also informative. Stay healthy!
Too bad the video got bad view counts. So he wont be doing that again
I like that this video doesn’t even feel like a review, it’s just a really well told story of a guy that pushes his comfort zone and goes on a bike trip. So refreshing and entertaining with all the scenery and things that happened along the way, really hope you make more videos of this kind on the channel.
Michael, I was having a really bad day today until I watched this lovely travelogue of sorts, in classic MrMobile style and class, and felt refreshed in more ways than one.
Thank you for this.
Never been a cycling guy, but this video makes me love doing it.
Such a fantastic video and story telling 👏❤️
I thoroughly enjoyed this vid as it was done from the perspective of a noob; I’m interested in e-bikes and would also be a noob.
I’m all for another one of these. Fun idea, see if you can get your hands on a super high end e-bike, do the same trip, compare how much easier it makes things (I suspect the answer will be a lot easier if it has a throttle and swappable batteries).
As someone who learned quickly- don't listen to the estimates. Especially if you have a fat tire ebike. When they are low power they drain fast
I’d really like to see this same ride with a Madeo T10 with dual batteries.. maybe a couple extras batteries in the panniers too 😂 Just in case!
I loved this. It's so exciting when the channel goes proper Mr Mobile and you deliver videos like this.
As a mid-thirties techie who has just recently started looking for more and more excuses to get outside and away from the computer desk, this video was fantastic. It's so easy for those of us in tech to forget about the toll the tech lifestyle can have on our bodies. It was truly a treat to see you blending your always amazing reviews, story telling, and globetrotting with the health aspect. I would absolutely love to see more videos like this.
This is easily my favorite mr mobile video to date. Its such a great look into your life, putting the tech to work in the most absolute of ways, and seeing what is possible with ambition. Keep up the great work!
I will be honest, when I saw the title, and a 26 minute runtime of his video, I rolled my eyes. I almost did not watch it. But I’m glad I did. There are so many relatable events in this video, as well as excellent storytelling With an ever constant eye on the review. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
I like how you constantly give shoutouts to fellow RUclipsrs and local stores in your videos. Good guy Michael.
Being a cyclist who has done couple of 63 miles rides with the traditional bikes, these e-bikes seems to be a great option to hop onto the new era of bicycles! And as always great storytelling from the GOAT of review's😎🙌
People often ask, if I could meet one person, who would it be. I don’t say the president, or a celebrity actor - I always say Mr Mobile.
Michael is a Robert Downey Jr. brother 😅❤
The fact that you are no expert in e-Bikes combined with your amazing communication skills, align perfectly to let us see what we may encounter if we decide to go for our first e-Bike.
Would LOVE to see more of these.
And the mention to the phones and other gadgets that came along to the trip is a really interesting one as well. Already previously reviewed or not, is the perfect way to test things like screen legibility under direct and constant sunlight, battery and overall performance under the heat of said sunlight, and; ahem, structural stress resistance, to name a few.
Thank you Michael!
I have a rare neuromuscular disease that has made biking very difficult over the years. Biking has long been the only form of sport I was still able to do, but about last year, it started becoming so difficult that I had to stop biking. Then I discovered the usefulness of e-bikes, and mine has been a godsend. I can comfortably ride 40-50 miles before my knees can't take the strain anymore, and that's with my son in a bike trailer behind me. Technology enables people with disabilities to do the otherwise impossible, and that's priceless.
As the name implies, Mr MOBILE, we expect more bike trip videos from you, if that is something you want to keep doing, we would like to keep watching. The beauty of an e-Bike is that at the max settings you can get pretty far and not feel the hit so much, stay and visit cool places on the way and still spend less money than a trip using plane and car. E-bikes are perfect for dry small trips! The long wet trips I'll leave to the professionals lol
Tech Beyond phones is what we need more of!
Agreed! I love the phone content but episodes like this are a real treat!
20:03 That's what I love about Belgium (where I live) and the Netherlands. It's filled to the brim with proper bike paths here
I agree with you. The idea of e-bike that takes away your exercise for years is in my thoughts. But now i get it after using it, that E-bike (especially pedal assist e-bike) can makes the owner choose how much exercise they would like. It's still exhausting activity, especially on a long distance. But the idea of "there's battery that can assist you when you're tired", makes me always want to cycling to a longer distance. Love your video, i seriously need a new saddle for my bike after seeing your video. Congrats on your 100 mile ride.
One of your finest videos ever imo. Really impressive feat and such an entertaining and informational ride. Thank you for the effort you put into this channel and your unique blend of storytelling and review chops, you're one of a kind man.
This was a great review and I'm so happy you shared your experience. As a former biker, I never knew there were "classes" of electronic assist, like you I thought a bike is for exercising as you get from place to place, why take that away for a glorified "scooter." You've opened my eyes and I would love if you got the chance to review an e-bike that was a little more affordable or "budget-friendly."
Great video. Growing up riding mountain bikes. I was in awesome shape. The first time I rented an electric assist bike like this. It really did something to me mentally. You feel so powerful. It’s really fun and amazing technology. Thanks Michael. Cheers.
I've been an active cyclist for nearly 15 years now and seeing you experience it was a joy to watch. I hope to see you on other bikes in future videos!
Yes! Glad you jumped on this Mr Mobile! I bought an ebike a couple of years ago as a way to get healthy. As time went on I'd reduce the assist so I'd be putting in more work. A few months on and I bought a normal bike. So far I'm nearly 80lbs (~40kgs) down! You still put the work in with ebikes (especially when going for PBs on strava segments), but you just got faster. They're also great for recovery rides, or beer rides haha
congratulations (btw did you mean 80 pounds?)
@@-aexc-Thanks, that's so kind! Oops yes I did. Edited!
Wow, awesome to hear. Congrats and thanks for the feedback!
As a Cyclist, when Michael shared to us how exciting this hobbie of long ride biking with this radical Ebike is, gives me that awesome feeling kudos Michael have a good one amazing content love it, saying hello from the Philippines 😄
As a serious amateur cyclist, this video is encouraging to see you took this on as a beginner. Well done and please don't stop cycling. Its the best stress reliever for myself, as a Systems Admin in Tech. Thanx for always bringing unique content to the channel!👌🔥😎🚲
I like your presentation on how these products would work in real life. Most reviews are very technical and we just have to believe the reviewers. But with you, we can really get a good view at how it would be having the product. Thank you!
Fantastic. Only someone with your storytelling skills could've done this video justice. Hope to see more content like this from you, even though it's a little less popular than your typical reviews.
Also: good for you for pushing yourself to the end of the ride! As a fellow non-biker, I'm very impressed by the way you've pushed your own limits. Congrats on the multifaceted achievement, Michael!
The production and effort behind the content you offer is spectacular, from the sound to the video quality, the shots, editing, in short, it is without a doubt the best reviewed channel on RUclips, I have been watching your channel for many years And I was surprised by your review of this E-Bike, what a journey you have made and I could understand that moment at the end of the trip where you stop and remain silently observing the horizon, it is the member of victory, congratulations, great video Michael.
I would love to try this bike... Seems like an amazing E bike
Superb video Michael. I've been using the Velotric Thunder for commuting for a couple of months and there is a LOT to love about this bike. Your story and video was an educational thrill ride and I loved hearing the perspective of a new ebike rider. Your videos are unmatched and inspiring, keep up the great work and stay safe out there.
Hey thanks a lot, Matt! I know you ride a ton, so I'm honored by the compliment. Looking forward to seeing you hopefully soon.
I really loved this review. It felt more like a vlog and not just getting to know the product but more about you and your past and I think even the silence when you arrived and that moment of calm and clarity. Very very good video and I hope for more like it in the future 💙
Today has been absolute garbage for me personally, so listening to a fun road trip story has made my lunch break better.
I got an e-bike a few months ago and it's been a life changer. I'm now replacing trips I otherwise would've taken with a car. It's so much more fun, better for my health, and better for the environment. I will say having a throttle to give your legs a break at times is definitely nice to have. Anyway, great video as usual!
I have never imagined you taking the time to review an e-bike, much more to ride it for a 100 miles! And for an inexperienced long-ride cyclist, you did very well, MrMobile! And props to your preparation before the ride, like the seat swap, the comfier underwear, and the anti-chafing stuff. Haha. As an experienced cyclist who knows how arduous it is to ride when there are roads uphill, I sure am grateful for the downhill portion, where I could just not pedal and let the beauty of gravity take its course and have a little rest for my legs. I know I'm not the only one. 😂
We'd love another take on this e-bike series! If you can review a high-end e-bike with all of the bells and whistles the e-bike industry can offer, it would be very nice!
Kudos for finishing this massive production! More to come and we're excited for the next ones! 🤌
Would definitely love to see more eBike reviews please :)
Please don’t look at the numbers on this video because this kind of content is exactly why I followed you. When Phones Were Fun is by far the best series from a techtuber on this site and this was one those videos that are off the well trodden path
This is brilliant. My favourite videos you've done in years. I'd love you to repeat the journey on a class 2 bike to do a comparison
More of these please!! Great road trip adventure, and kudos on doing the hard haul!
Great video as always. Your gift for immersive storytelling is applicable to whatever subject you review. The only thing about the video I was disappointed with is the lack of any Star Trek reference 😊.
I was amused by your quick visual joke at 1:49 slipping in the album cover from the eponymous single "Living in a Box" which I thought you weren't old enough to remember from the 1987.
It is always a pleasure to see someone making a living doing exactly what they love to do. Your passion for your craft always shines through on camera.
Michael, that was actually impressive for someone who doesn't ride regularly, great job!
I was kinda surprised the bike didn't have some kind of a passive battery regen function. Would make the downhill rides useful.
It was also interesting to see you didn't use any kind of supplement while riding (carbohydrate gel, magnesium powder), all the more kudos to you, sir!
More of these, MrMobile! Your reviews are always so informative and cool to watch when you're outside.
One of my favorite MrMobile videos in a while. Such a great blend of tech and your personal story.
Best video yet... Like ever. Not just because it was personal in its outcome but more because you were you interacting with the review device. More please.
Can’t lie, I loved this video! One of my favorites form you honestly. Through and quite dope. Seriously nice stuff. Beautiful I must say!
Loved this segway from your normal videos! This was fantastic!
This was a really great review.I really hope you review more e-bikes in the future
That was THE ebike review of ebikes though
Love this style of tech review where you are testing the tech away from home. Seeing the all the tech being used outside is so much more exciting to watch. Thank you for this.
Congratulations! That was ambitious, as first out-and-away bike odysseys go. E-assist, although a marvel, is only that - an assist. You did far more of the work than the bike. Thanks for sharing the journey and more of your personal story. For what it’s worth, although I’ve watched hundreds of your videos, this is the first I felt inspired to comment on.
LOVE the different type of content. You make amazing videos, but a bit of a different type of video is so refreshing
Love this as a new angle for Mr Mobile reviews! The local business shoutouts are awesome too.
It’s a shame the algorithm buried this video, I found it much more engaging than a classic tech review. Your storytelling really shines through.
Couldn't stop watching ❤️❤️ Thanks for taking us along for the ride 🙌 & the review!
You’ve got the best reviews out there man. I’m not anywhere close to being in the market for an e-bike but I still watched the whole thing because your writing and storytelling is unparalleled.
Refreshing!
Thats the word I have been looking for to describe your videos.
I love watching the travel vlogs you make. It's the perfect combination traveling and narration. My favorite type of content you produce, right next to phone were fun.
Super amazing video Mr Mobile. I would love more like this! Gosh youre absolutely the best at vlog, scripting, and editing videos.
This was an amazing feat and super cool way to review this bike! Thanks for sharing :)
I dare say this was one of your best videos to date. I really enjoyed the change of pace.
I think this may just have been my favourite of all the Mr mobile videos I've seen. I definitely think another is in order. Well done for challenging yourself
My stepdad grew up in Flatbush and lived out near Sheepshead and used to sail out to Montauk. Even though I’ve never set foot in Brooklyn or out on Long Island, I appreciate seeing what it’s like, especially on a bike my stepdad likely would enjoy himself. He’d be intrigued to know how you managed to survive negotiating Queens to get out to Port Washington in one piece!
Spending my Sunday while having my coffee and watching this made my coffee taste even better. Loved it.
This was a great and very inspiring video! Considering getting myself an e-bike and doing the same. Love your usual tech reviews but I wouldn't mind seeing more of this type of content in the future.
Incredible video man. I was ebike pilled last year too, and it replaced my car for my daily trips. It's a really fun way to move around.
So great to see you and Jaime together again. I’ve been watching you guys since, well it seems like forever. Your story telling is always compelling and must watch.
I love your tech reviews, as well as your reminiscing about old tech. Since I’m a tech geek, who’s 20 years older than you, I’d loved the tech from the late 90’s and early 00’s. But I love current tech. Once a tech geek always a tech geek.
This is awesome. I enjoyed this video way much more than i imagined i would.
joining the chorus of praise here to say how excited i was to see an ebike review from my favorite tech reviewer. this video was so fun to watch. and agree on the rail trails! more bike infrastructure so we don't have to deal with cars, please!
It is always a pleasure to watch your videos, you have a very unique and entertaining way to craft your reviews, but this one, watching you putting the tech to work in your favor, to accomplish something that ended up being more than just a road trip; it was delightful. Wishing to see more experiences like this on your chanel
Nice video.. more of these please... literally On day 2 I heard myself say, all the best man!!
been watching you since 8th grade so it's been like 6 years and by far this is an easily top 5 Mr mobile video
My life has changed a lot but you are one of the constants lol
This was a great video even forgot it was a review halfway through and that's amazing. The bike is out of my price range but the story of the ride was in my range and really made me think of my teenage fun ride of the past.
Great video, one of the best on the channel. Thank you for the fascinating narration!
I don't often comment but felt compelled to jump on here just to say wow. I thoroughly enjoyed this content. It's such a massive departure from the tech subject material we're used to, but your unique style of storytelling made this video so much fun to watch.
Keep pushing the boundaries of your creativity sir, keep up the good work.
I said it before and I'd say it again. You are one of the most (if not the only) articulate storyteller on RUclips today. Fun, unique and highly sophisticated videos but oddly very satisfying watch. Happy to have subscribed and as always.. no approval or editorial review was provided for this comment.
One of the best videos you ever made. It's awesome
Best video you've done in a long time, this was a lot of fun to watch. As an avid mountain biker, I loved your realization on how much it hurts to climb hills and how much nicer it is to ride out in the nature away from the traffic and other people. Maybe an e-MTB review could be next?
Congrats Mr. M I purchased an Aventon last year and it has opened back up my love of cycling. Never thought I’d do 40 miles in a day but here we are. The power of E-bikes
I loved this different subject matter and format. More of this please.
Fab video - really enjoyed the longer format and the aspects of the story. Would defo love more of this
Excellent video for an amazing achievement, I bought an ebike and I understand the feeling and the freedom it provides specially for someone who is not a trained professional but a casual weekend rider in his 40s. Appreciate all the work and effort on this production, well done!! And thank you.
I’ve been watching your videos from the early pocketnow days, and this has to be my favorite video you’ve ever produced.
This was one of my favorite vids you've done - fantastic adventure with review mixed throughout
This is one of the best things I have ever watched on RUclips. So impressive. The whole thing.
You sir are awesome! I can't help but repeat what others already told in the comments! Your way of conducting the videos and reviews make us really anxious and excited to watch every review of any sort. You are very unique and awesome!
Please try some scooters and other e bikes. I' sure you will probably enjoy them and post the best reviews we'll ever watch of those electric vehicles! In my opinion they don't get enough press
Hey I have a tip for anyone having troubles with sidewalks and rough terrain. Stand up! Riding your bike standing up makes it so your knees and elbows become your suspension, allow your arms and legs some flex, but stand semi-firtmly when crossing rough terrain. Sitting should be reserved for the long, flat parts.
This was an amazing video! I never thought I would see you do a cycling video. Good job with the ride!!
I was always very skeptical about e-bikes as well, it almost felt like cheating your exercise. At least that was until I finally decided to try one out for my commute, and now I am definitely a convert. I also try and keep the assist minimal, but it is really nice to have the option to get a boost when you yourself are flagging, or if it is so hot that you just want to take it easy. I really appreciate the review
Commenting for the algorithm! I really enjoyed this one! You are so good at this!! And would definitely like to see more reviews along these lines. Your longer term reviews are my favorites.
This type of different video was very nice to watch! 👍🏼
This was a great video, Michael! Good change of pace and amazing storytelling as always.
This was awesome. Thanks for going through this for the effort of the review!
Thanks for the reminders that I still need to watch this review 😅 Such a great video and I would love to see more reviews like this. I feel bad this didn‘t do as well for you as other reviews. This is way better than all those EV reviews that other tech channels are doing!
Really awesome video! Thanks MrMobile!!
Great video Michael, one of your best.
Here after you told me to come and watch this video from the duo screens Lenovo. Why didn't I check this video right away? It's such a fun video to watch. Thanks for taking us through your hard time as we're all growing old and cycling starts to feel like an extreme sport.
Long time viewer, first time(?) commenter. Within the first 10 seconds seeing my hometown Sacramento River and bike dog logo made me do multiple double takes 🍻. Stoked to see an e-bike review from someone who has always encouraged me to stay mobile.
MrMobile, the only tech youtuber I would check an e-bike review for regardless I am not even remotely interested in one. Greetings from Venezuela, I always enjoy your videos.
