BJ in his prime was a force of nature. He was like Rickson Gracie meets Manny Pacquiao for a good while.
Great way to put it. Fastest reflexes and most dexterity with his legs
Outstanding grappling, hits like a truck, never got scared to challenge himself against heavier fighters, the lightweight Goat.
One of the true legends of MMA and BJJ!
Had BJ Penn actually trained and put effort instead of relying on Yes Men and his natural talent, we might have seen the GOAT.
🤝
Black belt in only 3 years I think. Absolute beast
new fans will never know how crazy bj penn was out the gate. he was the khabib of our generation.
Except BJ was actually fun to watch
@@craigh6805yup
Put respect on bj penn name he actually threw hands
@@abelmejia3877he definitely was on the goat conversation but khabib is a level higher
Gsp studied him endlessly even talked about he’s striking speed being the best of any welterweight at the time

BJ was such a legend. Didn't deserve that losing streak
how long was it
@@luhbruno9848 7 fights in a row if memory serves correctly. Not a great way to end your career but he just kept fighting. Still one of the best of all time and the guy who really got me into watching MMA
@@luhbruno9848 7 fights that stretched over 8 years. Plus got knocked out in a street fight which unfortunately sealed his career as over officially
He shouldn't fight that long, he should have let it go after last hughes fight
he probably got paid more by dana to lose
I've never had a "favorite" fighter. Never been that into MMA. But I think I just found my favorite.
Too bad you didn't include his Rumble on the Rock finishes. Bloodied and battered a prime Takanori Gami.
BJ WAS A MONSTER IN THE MMA ART 💪 RESPECT
Every finish they got comboed or submitted and they just kept getting better and more brutal
BJ stepped up and went three full rounds with a prime Lyoto Machida who weighed in over 205 lbs, Machida had just knocked out prime Rich Franklin with relative ease and Penn only lost by decision. Imo the most impressive feat ever by a fighter who was a true 145 lbs. I'd like to see Khabib step up and fight any LHW much less a man who went on to be LHW champ and competed competition for the MW belt and actually banged GOAT Jon Jones up a bit before he sunk in that guillotine. Khabib has never faced but one man who will be a hall of fan and that's Conor who had stepped up weight classes 135-45 being his true class. BJ broke the nose and battered GSP even having him tied up and punching him in the face when the buzzer sounded ending there first match but somehow George got the nod BJ said i went and had a beer George went to the hospital. That's WW GOAT GSP. Khabib won the title fighting unranked Al Ianquinta who was given a days notice. How does that happen? I know all about what happened that week buy that still doesn't mean one guy who has been preparing for months gets to fight an unranked fighter for the belt who had a day notice. And it went the distance. Please.
That’s it. He competed and was good at multiple weights. Unreal.
BJ is legend!
Absolutely. My favourite fighter still to this day.
this man fought since May 24, 2001 until he retired, god damn.
Man bj was and is my all time favorite I just wish he had got his against gsp, with that being said all props to gsp the goat of 170
Khabib vs prime BJ Penn would've been a epic trilogy in UFC history for sure.
I'd pay $100 just to watch them roll. BJJ world champion against best wrestler in 155 history. I'd give the edge to Penn on the ground because I've seen him get the better of Matt Hughes and GSP who are much bigger men and all time great wrestlers
Legendary.
BJ Penn was the fighter that got me hooked on UFC when Spike would have it on all day every day
bj penn was my favorite ufc fighter for a long time,
Love bj. Favorite UFC fighter.
That was a vicious butcher cut he did on Diego Sanchez
Great BJJ + boxing is a recipe for a dangerous finisher
Bravo to bj pen he fight lightweight and midleweight . Big bravo
Not middleweight it was lightweight and welterweight and heavyweight once in another org
@@seanmeyre4172 Yep, against Machida and gave him problems.
Great fight
Badass video
4:22 The way Penn used those short ranged kicks as a distraction to sink in the choke is just great stuff! Not sure if I’ve seen any recent fighters today use it in the UFC today. Penn’s flexibility, and with how he used it, was what made him so successful on the ground, and to add on to that whenever he’d mount his opponent he would slide his leg underneath their waist, possibly to stuff ground passes from the bottom.
Built like Gracie and Pacman at the same time.
The Prodigy
For me BJ is the greatest pound for pound fighter ever
Бж Пен 👍👍👍
He was oliveria before oliveira became the beast he is at lightweight
That's his idol lol
BJ is the lightweight GOAT.
🤝
hughes thought he'd been kicked in the head
Everytime they scream “DJ PENN” what i hear in my head DJ KHALIDDDDDDD we the best music
🐐
The world needs more BJ Penns and less Paddy Pimbletsesss. (and I like the guy)
Uno runs out to try and grab penn soon as the fight starts then penn drops him immediately lol
What happened to him? In a technical sense? Guy went from a goat, highest of highest to the lowest of lows in the sport
Age don't do you any favors bruv
4:58: Did you mean Joe "Stevenson".? It's not Stevens.! GodBless BTW Mayne, Much Love, Prayers, N, Positivity To You N Your Family, Amen, 777, G-Yeah, Yeah Uh Yeah, Salute.!!!!
I don't know that dea Thomas is a fighter I thought he is mma analysr
*Din
Bj, even though he was small for welterweight, he tested himself in the category and was champion by submitting Matt Hughes. Khabib has never tested himself at welterweight with real wrestlers of his level.
Bj shoulda called time earlier
I love how pen started kicking his stomach to disract his brain to move his hands to block and switch so fast to a rear naked choke on Kenny Florian. Krazy
Did BJ lick Matt's sweat off his finger after he mimes a cat licking it's paws at the end of the fight
He likes to lick his opponents blood
Usually he's licking off blood lol but Matt hadn't even broke a sweat at that point
bj "consuming", i guess for lackof better wording right off, his opponents blood etc is archaic baller (borderline mastermind/psycho) psychology shid lol. dunno if i would tbh but hey id never question homie, was a straight fighting style role model for me personally growing up. 🤝
6:52 bad stoppage tbh
Please let's acknowledge that the level was lower back then, look at the second fight of this video, the Asian dude looks like he doesn't know what is a fight..
Dude stfu. Common sense tells you that every sport evolves. Always gotta be one idiot tho. Foh 🤡
L comment
Mazagatti didn't stop that at all he was clearly done. What a piece of she let that fight get beat down
Was all good till he met 209
