    Emma the 2 bits of wood left over you can add to your new bed and make it more of a square bed so you can have a bigger bed which might be a better idea

    You can add the 2 short bits to the ends so 2 long sides and 2 short. Pins up with metal hook bits down looks better!
    They are really good and convenient too! Good luck!

      Those pins are very sharp, and many are longer than the hinge itself, so you're asking for a jab every day! Definitely better off pointy bit down.

    Hi Emma, I have them raised beds/pallet Collars. They are fabulous. You can stack on top of each other to make a deep raised bed, had some fantastic long parsnips last year 😊 You’re doing great on your plot.😊

    You could have added the spare planks of wood to the raised bed to make it longer or wider

    • @estellavandenende1477
      @estellavandenende1477 7 дней назад +1

      Ja, dat zou ik ook doen, dan kun je hem net nog iets groter maken, meer vierkant in plaats van langwerpig. Yes, I would do that too, then you can make it just a little bit bigger, more square instead of oblong.

      You are both absolutely right! I got mine from a pallet yard which I found through fb marketplace! Most of them charge now as they have cottoned on to the raised beds but the guy did me a great deal as I was having so many. Then we saw the shops selling them for 4x the amount 😂

      I've found that they are not so easy to find in London, there are pallet companies that sell them cheap but you need a car to get to them, never seen any for free on Facebook marketplace.

    Ask around any manufacturing companies close to your allotment and ask if they have any pallet collars for raised beds, you may be able to get them for free . Just line the inside sides to protect from any leaching from the wood.

    I have done exactly the same with the pallet collars to extend them, its a game changer, i have put 3 together length ways, got 9 beds like that on one plot with many other beds, but now got a second plot also, so my plot is 35m long and 35m wide, its not easy doing it on my hands and knee's but would not chamge a thing tbh👌

    @durbatov 7 дней назад +1

    Look for pallet collars they are very similar and iv had lots for free stack them 3 high grow potatoes in them I used a lot of grass clippings last year as they grow although I'd dry them in the sun for a day or so 1st or only fill in thin layers every couple of days as heat and rotting were issues I learnt from

      @KatieToft-wv5pe Lucky you. But backyard gardeners sometimes have no choice or availability of free materials for building a raised bed. Hopefully the bed surrounds I bought will last for quite a few years. After that maybe I just do without them and go no dig. If I am still alive by then.

    The raised beds are really handy, I've got two. You could buy the smaller version and use up the spare lengths you have to make another bed.
    They also fit on top of each other and the silver edges that stand proud ensure a snug fit.
    I also bought net hoops for mine, also from B&Q.
    I bet you can't wait to fill them Emma 😊

  • @angelikalove3825
    @angelikalove3825 7 дней назад

    the 2 raised beds together are just about doable, any longer and the weight of the soil will push the wooden sides outwards. I've got one bed that's a bit too long and it pushed outwards and takes up half the path. The wood is already partly rotten so once it falls apart I'll replace it with a smaller bed🙂

  • @estellavandenende1477
