One of the most successful songwriters in the 70s and beyond. He's written so many hits for himself and others for many decades. He's also such a natural story teller. To me this song is his best from that 70s era. Not the best singer, but the BEST song written by one of the BEST songwriters in the world ... ever. Love him!
The writting in this one is very intelligent by telling a story of SoCal not being the land of opportunity for everyone. In fact, many people did not make it there like everywhere else. Music today is dumbed down to the lowest it can go and uses "boom boom" beats to try and make up for brain drain. This is really good music.
When I was 17 (in the '70s) & my boyfriend was in the Marines in California he sent me a letter in which he made some comment about how long it had been raining and said he didn't think it was supposed to rain in Southern California. This song has reminded me of him since then. Funny how songs can trigger memories!
He was born in England but his family moved after his birth to Gibraltar.Because of the proximity to Spain, he played for many years en Madrid alongside important Spanish Rock figures like Miguel Rios. He married an Argentinian beauty pageant. He wrote "The air that I breath" "Nothing is gonna stop us" "Don't turn around""Don't wanna live without your love""To All the Girls I've loved before" All songs made famous by Chicago,Tina Turner,Hollies, Ace of Base,Julio Iglesias, Jefferson Starship.
Oh Mann, waren das noch Zeiten mit Rainer Holbe als Moderator und Albert Hammond mit seinem Riesenhit "It Never Rains in Southern California" - herrlich!
If you would only listen, he sings IT SEEMS LIKE it never rains in Southern California. English is my 4th language, and I am glad to point that out to you.
He did it twice!! and i love it when he does that....any guesses?...and also he is too cute, with a beautiful voice!!! and a smile that would melt a million hearts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
same here-tylerswings....i hear that. im 42. i could totally relate. and yes, thank you -shammy1000000. i thought i would never see who sung this classsic!! great job!!
I heard this song playing in a small grocery in Shanghai today. Wouldn't you know it, it was overcast outside. But the Chinese folks sure looked cheerful pushing their carts around to this song...
Such a beautiful long story packed in an approx 3 min catchy melody presented by a very nice guy who is one of the greatest songwriter in the 70s. What a song! Can't stop watching. Thank you for posting.
Reminds me of a time when there was not that much good music going around, ie Beautiful Balloon, Raindrops keep falling on my head; tip toe through the tulips; timeless alright.
The first time I heard this song was on the headphones on a Lufthansa jet flying from Frankfurt to Vienna. When the song was over, the DJ said "And that was the hit tune 'It Never Rains in Southern California.' Is that true? I don't know. I've never been there."
Always one of my favorite 70's songs. Why can't modern music being memorable like this? I mean, how many songs today on the radio will people be able to look back and say 'Oh man I remember that song! Loved it!'? This Lady Gag Gag and rap crap sucks!

Okay, on further review he wrote some fine songs for other people, and I'm a train charted in the U.S. but this is certainly the song that he will always be identified with, and mainly remembered for obviously.
He speaks Spanish fluently. When I was young, living in Spain in the '70s, he was a frequent guest on many local radio shows. I don't remember him saying anything about his ethnic background, though.

Many pop songs were hits in some countries, but not in all. Pop hits are in the ear of the beholder,I guess.

Reminds me of a time when there was not that much good music going around, ie Beautiful Balloon, Raindrops keep falling on my head; tip toe through the tulips; timeless alright.

parece que só existe musica boa até o final dos anos 70.
Sir Albert hit #5 in Billboard, 12-16-72. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Does Albert still live here in the US? Somebody let me know.

Where was this performed? I can't place the MC's accent. In 2005 I visited friends in Los Angeles and I can say that it not only rains there it DOES pour! I was there for 3 weeks and it rained for 2 - and they had floods too. My friends kept apologising for the rain but I come from the UK and I'm used to it - but next time I went to visit I made sure I flew over at the end of September!
God, what a sad song that is. Reminds me of the life of the immigrants. Anyway.. I love that song.. it's kinda touching
Great song. Was that James Last there at the start of the video? Thanks for posting this up. Patrick.
