I want to point out an error in the video at 7:32. The math should say 37.6 at that point, and the total length for this example comes to 43.66". I guess I can't read a calculator early in the morning. Download my tube-wrapping spreadsheet from www.mikesinventions.com/?p=848 so you don't have to do the math if you don't want to.
Thanks mike that's great!! I'm an avid builder of all types of rockets from small Estes up to bigger than huge!!! I normally but all my body tubes through a great supplier but with a phenomenal event coming up has sold out of everything!! If u saw what I've built you'd be more than impressed, but even through it all, I can't grasp advanced maths at all and never have been able to. Trig, algebra and all that is like the alphabet in numbers upside down and backwards!!! A tutorial that is more a practical demonstration of spiral wrapping tube would benefit so many people like myself. I still don't make any sense out of that, but I can't build a supersonic rocket no problem!!! One real sentimental rocket need an AV bay done real urgent tho, can u help with any advice on ensuring it dries straight?? I only normally use Quantum tube, preglassed phenolic so spiral wrapping is new!!!
Yeah, if I'm just reading the board and plugging in those numbers, I get 37.6 for a base number. Not 30.68. Let me try and figure out why I'm so far off... Ok, yeah, so I just made a dumb mistake in reading a calculator I guess. Everything else is correct, I just used 30.68 for some stupid reason instead of 37.6. I also double checked it in my Excel sheet (which I believe is available on my website). My total length for this should come out to be 43.66in. Obviously you saw this mistake and knew better, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'll try and fix the errors in the video somehow.
Hey Shazzad. I had to modify my original reply, because upon checking it, I realized it didn't provide the information that I intended. I never thought anyone would want to overlap pieces, so I didn't build that into the Excel file. The reason I didn't build it in is because an overlap is rarely desirable because of the double thickness where it overlaps. This bump makes any subsequent wraps impossible to get right, because the helix isn't flat. I can't think of any case where a multi-layered production tube has overlapped wraps for these reasons.
Thanks brother for your opinion. But overlapping is sometimes mandatory. Say, in electric wires , if I want to wrap mica tape over conductor wire, it would need to overlapped at least 30% to make sure, any bare part of conductor wont expose. So, if you help me with that math, it will be excellent :)
@@SHIBLI55 I'm not 100% but first thought is to subtract the desired amount of overlap from the tape/webbing etc width and complete the calculation that way using that value.

Mike Thompson thank you very much
Thank you this really helped me
The link is broken! 😭
Interesting, I was just day dreaming about wrapping something perfectly and my obsessive compulsive ass went on to look for this just for fun 😂

Here is a link to the Excel file I created to do all the hard work for you. Just input the numbers and BAM!

Hello firstly thanks for video Can you send me how to calculate spiral pipe axle degree with excel. I will be very glad if you help me.
Sure, what's your e-mail address and I'll e-mail you the excel file.

Hi Mike, i have a question for the computation of at 7:32, how did you come up with the value of 30.68inches? Please reply.

Take masking tape roll, pull tape off at 45° tear it, it should curl up nice.
it works really good for me.but I have another question.what if I overlap the wrapping 30% I. each turn?
