I started making photo books after I lost some holiday digital photos through no fault of my own (luckily the backup saved the day) but it was a reminder about the perils of digital photography. In the UK I use Cewe who produce great books (no affiliation) and whilst on holiday I write up a daily diary which is added to the photo book, sometimes at the end, sometimes throughout the book and we often look through the book or books. It’s amazing how much you forget about a particular trip or event and the book brings it back, helping you to relive all those great memories.
I like scrapbooking my memories. It is not the kind of scrapbooking where there is one photo on the page with the word, "Joy." It is several photos with a story. If I get a photo book printed I like there to be space to personally write where I was and what was happening when I took those photos, and who I was with for those memories.
Thank you so much for this. So many great points. My wife and I were talking just yesterday about me creating a photobook from a recent road trip. Slowing down - We live in a constant manic state. No wonder creativity and wonder leave us! I have slowed my life down significantly for spiritual reasons, but still I find my mind racing. Congrats on coming to the slower life on your own.
Been using them for years, amazing photo books. Not exactly cheap but awesome quality and options, also for prints and all kinds of products. They also give nice discounts especially if you've got a professional account.
Well-said, Scott - thanks! I wrote my first book last year. Didn't use the company you did, I went with "Blurb" but to your point, there are dozens of easy to use sites to make our books awesome. Your point about slowing down is correct and printed media helps us do that. The time it takes to turn pages is so much different than the time it takes to scroll on your phone (and might I add, the page-turning is so much more rewarding). I'm also a fan of printing -- in general, beyond books -- as in Prints. As a photographer, I get great joy from looking at a 20 X 24 print of something I've shot, as it's hanging on the wall in my office. It's very similar to having a book in that there's a sense of permanance to printed work. I've long said that IG isn't really for photographers and viewing someone's portfolio on a phone just doesn't make sense to me. Taking the time to print -- whether Prints for your wall or books is something that truly accentuates the photographer's works. I still buy photo books from other photographers as well. And -- I'm making my second book this Fall. Again, thanks for taking the time to do this video. Printing matters. Cheers!
How much would a book co$t? I know the price would vary by how many photos you print and how many pages the book is. Just give me an idea. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Quite expensive albums on that site, but I can't find any technical info, like print dpi?
Do you recommend any smaller home photo printers (or portable) that print high-quality photos if you use or have any
How many pages did you seem was a good fit for your year? What type of book and cover did you end up choosing?

One of my goals with my street photography is to make books.

Hey can you show us how you setup the lighting for the book? I notice that the light doesn't scattered on the pages and it seems to spread evenly
