I have the Civic Sport, it's great I love it, but damn the Type R is one gorgeous car, really pondering trading mine in to upgrade
I wouldn't mind taking your civic sport lol, they both look really good to me. I do love the type r though but I think the sport is probably good for me lol
I have a 19 Civic Hatchback EX but one of the cars I wanna switch to is a civic sport hatchback Manual since the Type R is out of my price range right now but the Type R indeed is one unique car 😍 in all of its colors one problem I would have is choosing colors
Had a 20 sport sedan 2.0 cvt. Loved it. Great brakes, steering n handling. Now I have a 21 CTR in red. FANTASTIC! I'm 67 and did a 385 mile day trip. I was comfortable every mile. This car is an automotive rock star!
Type r isn't worth the price tag. Stick with the sport. Upgrade the bumper and engine and you'll race along with type Rs no prob. For less.
I own the sports hatch and loving the gas mileage. Upgraded to type R trim and a better looking wing from the stock version.
If ya don’t mind me askin’, what wing was it?
Bought my wife a 2018 hatchback sport. She loves it! We saw the type R and it seemed like a little too much “sporty” for us. If it was my daily driver then I probably would have gone with the type R, but since it was for my wife. She’s pretty happy with the Sport. Great video
Sport is an awesome car, especially for daily driving.
A little late to comment but I will say when I first got my Type R I found myself always stressing about how it rode on uneven roads. Every impact felt like the car was getting damaged even in comfort mode. I swapped the OEM wheels out for some 18's and WOW night and day difference. The car feels almost as good as my SUV in comfort mode. I can actually push my car and enjoy it cause I'm not worried about flying into a road crater.
I routinely get 38-41 MPG Civic LX Hatchback 6MT. Mainly highway driving, routinely 70-85 MPH.
Never seen less than 36 MPG.
It's a great car!
I really wish they made the Honda Civic Hatchback a SI.
Fun fact: engine-wise, both the regular civic and SI use a 1.5 turbo engine, only difference is how they are tuned. Throw a flash tune on your hatch and you now have an SI hatchback.
Main thing missing is the LSD transmission, if it had that I’d like kept the hatch instead of getting the Type R
@@jakesterisdaman does it have a bov?
@@Gin81593 does it have a turbo? then yes it has a bov
@@kingice984 no cause it can have a bpv instead....
Gato, keep giving us daily content even though I don't know how u find so much time. Imma be watching you and rob until I purchase mine in spring.
thanks! Glad you enjoy
There's two different kits to shorten the throw of the Civic Sport Hatchback shifter. But it should have came with at least the Si brakes. I would get the front strut tower brace and the bugger rear sway bar and matching chassis connector rods in the back. And of course, the flux capacitor. The Type R is not for everyone, and you mentioned the issues like brakes and wheels/tires, especially for the street.
You could put a wooden board on the seat back to get lumber support. Lol
If I had the money, I would get the Sport Hatchback, and fix it up a lot, but if I could, I think I would get a new, blue Chevy Camaro ZL1 for my performance car. Expensive, but it has the Corvette ZO6 650 HP Supercharged V8 without the cooling problems, nice Recaro seats and awesome handling. But about $65K. Worth it, if you have the money. But the Type R us awesome and the best in its class of car.
mmm, speaking of V8 engines.... I need one in my life, some time in the next couple of years I will add a V8 to my fleet!
wait for the camaro iroc that is coming soon it has more power than the ZL1
This video unmotivated me from trading in my 2018 Honda Civic Sport Touring for a Type R, I've already had my reservations anyhow but thanks for all the info!
the Touring is MILES more comfortable than the Type R, don't care what anyone says. The more expense of the R went into performance
@@FlyinGato Yeah after comparing features I wondered why the Type R would be so much more expensive than the ST, I concluded it was the engine.
suL33T So how did it go? Did you get the Type R because I’m in a similar situation. I have the 2018 Civic sport Touring and I want to trade it in for a Type R
@@attmosf3ar No I didn't. I commute about 20 miles to work and 20 miles from work daily and it'll just make things uncomfortable for me. As far as I've gathered, the seats on the Type R does not have lumbar support, it's a manual transmission and not a CVT which will make drinking coffee and driving near impossible for me, and the gas mileage is no contest when it comes to fuel economy as I'm currently getting 35-40 MPG. I've decided to NOT move on to a Type R since I just bought the ST last year and I'd be losing approximately $7,000-$10,000 if I were to do a trade-in. Instead, modding is the route I'm going to take. The Type R and ST Hatch basically are the same--just switch out some things, add a thing or two there, and your car will more or less resemble a Type R.
Nevermind the Type R if your only gonna daily it.
A friend of mine got the civic hatch with automatic transmission and he was talking about putting the type r wing and badge in his car. Me and our other friends looked at him like what did you just say?
Type R wing is ok, people have been adding wings to cars for YEARS. The Type R badge, though...
FlyinGato I didn't wanna say anything about the wing but the badge is not deserve in the car unless you do a full type r engine swap. Which will cost a lot of money.
+John929kelvin very true!
He can customize his car any way he wants, but not add the type R badge!
Lowkey22 that's what I was thinking :)
thanks for this video man, i just got my civic sport, but the R is constantly popping up and getting my attention. i mostly commute, never track, i like low gas milage, i like comfort, just like you pointed out, the sport is gonna be more than enough and i should invest the 15k extra for the type R in something else. Just wished the type R looked as cool as the type R xD. have fun !
The type r is essentially a sport hatch with all the cool details and the big wang. Exterior wise

What an awesome neighbourhood to live in!
I love my neighborhood, we all look out for each other.
FlyinGato That's really cool man. Oh btw have you used Hondata before on any of your previous cars? Got some questions about it if you have
+blacksm I have, what's your question
FlyinGato Is it possible to download the stock tune from the ecu and change settings and upload it again? Or can you only upload base maps which are inside the hondata. I want to maintain the stock map for now and just change a couple of settings and get it tuned later on.
blacksm yup subscribe
i drive the FK8 sport hatchback, and it is a great little car to have fun with.
Agreed, it's a great car!
12:34 PROS & CONS - TYPE R VS SPORT
The type r was difficult to find so I settled with a red hatchback and I don't regret it!
a civic hatch is an amazing car. I actually miss mine a lot, it's a car you don't have to worry about too much but is still so much fun to drive.
as a not rich guy who went from honda civic 2001 hatch to honda civic 2018 sport hatch, what i miss about the days when i had my old car was not worrying one bit about getting the car damaged or if someone hits the car while being parked at a public parking spot
Gotta love that R exhaust note!! Nice comparison 😎
thanks!
This is the video i needed!!! Thx
I was thinking to downgrade my 2016 Camry xse with the honda civic hatchback 2017. I just don't like the 2016 Camry size and shape..
Watching 6 years later
#GatoSquad going strong 😎😎
In my country, Honda Sport Plus costs 23,000 dollars and the Type R costs 40,000 dollars. Is it worth the effort to pay those 17,000 euros more for the Type R?
Great source of info, just what i was looking for! But what about road and wind noise? Is a lot worse in Type R? Thanks!
Not a lot worse, but not better that's for sure
the gatosquad is AWESOME
#gatosquad
Im from europe and just bought a honda civic sport plus AKA sport touring. But still the type R drives me crazy bro....i really wanted to buy the type R first but the price here in. The nerherlands is ridiculous...anyway i like the pano roof and the heated seats of the sport touring....it would of be perfect if the type R came with pano roof
OK, you said this is a comparison between the type r and the "sport" hatchback. But you actually have the sport "TOURING" hatchback. Honda does make a "sport" hatchback and also a "sport touring" hatchback. The sport is NON turbo and doesn't have the LED headlights that both the sport "touring" and type r share. There's several other differences between the sport and sport touring also.
no I had the sport hatch from 2017, the touring, back then, did not have an available manual.
so new to the channel just curious how one affords a Type-R, S2k, Civic Hatch, and a Beemer? (prob other cars I don't know about) just curious?
welcome! I hope you stay a while 😭. I also have that project prelude race car (more vids to come) and two motorcycles. I sold the sport hatch to get the Type R though. Short answer - work HARD by adding value to everything you do, live like a poor person while making a 6 figure income, and invest smartly (I bought up cheap properties and rennovated/rented). I owned that Prelude for 8 years before I bought another car
Every 4 cylinder Honda owner knows that tick
Honestly the Type R is an amazing car and it is fast and has great hp and what not but the only thing that keeps me away from it is how radical or “riced” out the car looks it’s just to much for my taste which is why I just got the 2017 Civic Si. It has more hp and is faster then any of the other Civics (not counting the Type R) and it looks nice and sleek not to over the top in its design. I feel like with a good tune I can get rid of the rev hang and fix up a couple more problems I have with my Si. Great video though! 👍🏻 Hope you enjoy the Type R!
The styling can be polarizing, for sure, but in person the R looks great. The Si is a great car as well, get the Ktuner, you'll love it.
Giovanni Cruz same here, i love type r but i can’t afford it tho😭😭 so I end up on Si and I never regret really nice tho.
That Delaware river, damn I love kayaking there.
Is the rs and sport touring the same or whats the difference?
My first car is a Civic sports hatchback. So the Type R and sports got different spoilers? Thats sad, I really liked that type R spoiler
I want to take off all the type R badges and the wings of the type R and race an normal hatchback
You can do that, I've seen a few other Type R's do that
@@FlyinGato Ok thx
Indonesia price
Hatch : $31,800
Type R : $67,000
That's a lot of taxes
Yeah, 120%
What a rip off
@@FlyinGato Finland type-r: $62.000 1.5T civic around $30.000-35.00. We also have 1.0T around $22.000-25.000

haha, thanks!
Just noticed you picked yours up from Garber Honda. I live not far from there. Picking up my Type R before the end of the month... Different dealership, but I had wondered who had picked up the only Championship White Type R in the area. If you happen to find yourself back in the area, I would love to connect with you!
I'll be livestreaming the pickup on Twitch by the way, if that happens to interest you at all.
awesome man! I'll try to check it out
Aguilucho!!!! 💪
I'll take the sport hatch! Not digging that oversized wing on the type R!
I do miss my Sport Hatch, with a Ktuner that thing sings
My local Dealer has a Civic hatchback sport 6 speed, I am really debating buying it!!!
They now offer the Type R sport line that has a much lower profile spoiler as opposed to the standard large wing
Every day boy!!
you know it!
Great video ! , have a question what type of police detector you have, Im looking to get one and i see yours work really good . Please send me a link or something.
I use an Escort, but if you want my recommendation, I would get the Valentine 1. The issue now is that a lot of cars have false K band radars for their blind spot monitoring, making the detector ring all the time, so you have to learn which rings are false, and which are true cops. I think Valentine 1 does the best job of this (still not great though)
content content CONTENT!!!
damn right!
appreciate it dude. im bored as hell with out my ecu in my car. its getting reflashed at Hondata woop woop (longest 3 days without my baby)
You didn't mention the full LED headlights and bigger fenders and scoops on the Type R, and no hood liner like the Sport Hatchback.
yea I had to cut somewhere, and it wasn't going to be my story! haha I was aiming for under 20 minutes... Tomorrow's video goes back to 10ish!
The sport touring is the closest thing to a type r in resemblance
Especially with the headlights
What are the pros and cons of having a sport touring over type R? Does type R have Honda sensing?
Do you think Honda will make an Si Hatch in the future?
I don't think so, I think because of the Type R, they are afraid to encroach. Shame really, it'd be the perfect medium between the sport hatch and the Type R.
So if i did buy the hatchback i would be able to slap the type r wing on it
+SiberianHusky Yea it's been done
FlyinGato and the front fenders? ?
I visited Mini Maranda Sings' RUclips channel, I'm now sure I have crippling autism.
Did you go to Tlay's channel or to the mini Miranda sings channel? Was it a young girl or older girl?
Is the type R 4 cylinders or v6?, I’d say 4 cylinders right?
so basically if i put type r spoiler to civic hatchback it will become exactly like type r to the ppl that unfamiliar about honda right
pretty much man, most people don't even know cars, and if they know a little, they see a large wing and a type R badge, must be a type R!
I wanna see you compare the Si to the type R
Good idea! I'll put it on the list
Good video bro
Thanks bud!
Can you change Hatchback brake with SI's slightly bigger brake?
Can you compare the civic hatch sport to the civic sedan si? The type R is just way to out of the league to be compared to the hatch sport
When I reviewed the Civic Si I compared it to the hatch check it out!
Hey bro can you compare the honda type R and the honda RS turbo.
The Sport hatch is the closest we get to the RS turbo in the states, since this is the highest trim manual hatchback you can get here.
Hi i have a question the rear ligth of the civic type r is tje same one of de civic sport hatchback?
yep
Yay!!!!
The girl who gave her RUclips, I thought she was your kid. Y'all look alike lol. 😳
haha, she's a cute kid, but not mine!
DNA test
F And lol
Does hatchback sport needs premium fuel to run? would it be oky to use regular gas?
You can use regular for sure
@@FlyinGato thank you!!
Unless you are over 100mph, that wing does almost nothing. The wing is for looks.
Gebby it’s a awesome mod, wether it’s practical or just for looks, it’s amazing.
Still does something not much, but enough to make a difference, there's a video of a older civic hatch with and without on a track both driver and time reflect the difference
$400 brake pads are a lot? It’s a 35k car so I’d say no..
Crazy. $36,000 for a type R. Or $20,000 for a sport hatch. Yes the Type R has the bigger motor. Idk
Upon more research. I will probably choose a Civic LX 6 speed, in the metallic gray. When the certified used prices come down to around 15-16$k. I’m cheap. Lol. But the tires are cheaper for 16’s. And I don’t drive too much. Love the hatch in general though!!!
That's a great deal for sure, I think the hatches have the best value
More crazy. $67,000 for type R in my country indonesia and $36,700 for hatch
What about gear grind? Have you experienced that?
watch my videos
Get the 2017 Grand Touring Hatch. Spend $3000 on performance upgrades and save $8000 and stamp the R on any race.
+Matthew Kaspar if it came in a manual I would for sure
How many times have you been pulled over for no front plate in the R?
Not once yet
FlyinGato good luck in NYS. I'm looking to get a civic ex hatch soon.
I never really had an issue in NY, only in NYC
FlyinGato yeah. Some cars look amazing without front plates (Audi) but I understand why there are laws to have them.
I don't, Pennsylvania only issues rear plates
Type R and hatchback has the same body?
Ernest Degamo yes same body and they are built in the same plant!
What do you do you do for a living so that you can buy so many cars, frivolous.
Director of talent at a big accounting firm 😁
No more V-Tec engines for Honda's so sad .
type R is literally hatchback with spoiler
And also an LSD, bigger, more powerful engine, functional scoops and vents, bigger brakes, improved exhaust. Technically you could do all these mods to the hatch but then for that cost you may as well have just bought the Type R.
Maybe getting a Type R soon.
whoa no way dude! That would be awesome.
FlyinGato Yeah a drunk driver hit my Fa5.
solved gear-grinding?
yep! new modified CMC
People watching you and taking pictures of you... ugh. “Better get used to that.” 🙄 Lol.

Type R is just a tad over 300hp, it's not considered "fast". I will submit, that the $36K base price is as much as anyone should ever pay for one. Everyone is paying well over that. You're trading off years and years of maintenance $ up front - not smart at all.
Holly Wood it’s underrated engine buddy check out plenty of videos on RUclips where type r beats focus rs, sti, evo , gold r, on roll race of course, because you know it’s fwd.... it’s pretty much highway car or shall I say “roll race car “
Bakhtiyar Mamadaliyev It’s a Honda, and I have no question that it is built well. The disappointments are the stock intercooler, DP, and Inlet (which most others also neglect).
nice shirt :))) TUONG OT 0_o

No just an enthusiastic neighbor haha
@@FlyinGato my simple radio always freezes or won't allow Bluetooth. I have to turn off the car. So glad I have the sport with leased amount of electronics
Type r and the hatch back are literally the same car
