Last minute of ET we had a free kick on the half way line. Rather than getting everyone in the box and Gauci launching it in, we played backwards keeping possession?!
Bailey is a shadow of his former self.
Great to see Mings back and getting some minutes.

    • @nestorbamboo
      @nestorbamboo 27 дней назад +1

Was thinking that myself. It was like Villa were trying to run out the clock! Push everyone one up and make the defenders clear their lines. Instead we passed it sideways for 3 of the 4 minutes.

I think it's left me with more questions than answers around how strong our squad actually is. I know the 3 are coming back from long term injuries but those aside, the rest showed nowhere neat enough hunger or desire to stake a claim for a 1st team place for me. Jaden was really disappointing after showing lots of promise and I would rather have had Barkley with Kamara and McGinn further forward, he opens up play and spreads the ball around so well. I can't see Buendia being at the club next year.
We all know this is the bottom of the pile of competitions to win so I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it. UTV

I don't think You can't see how good they are until they slot in 1, 2 or 3 at a time into the main squad.
That was a bunch of players who haven't played together either at all or in a long time. Were they all new players, We'd be saying "they need time to gel".
Also the style had to be different. So We're then asking the likes of a young Philogene to do something different to what He's been doing or try to do the same when the rest of the game doesn't or can't Compliment it.
For the talk about how good Mings was, He had to be. And in part because of himself. He's so different to Pau that just changing him changes the whole style and effectiveness. Midfielders were deeper when waiting to receive the ball from defence. That makes the pressing easier and even if the pass is successful, more is asked of the midfield to turn and get it forward. Having a guy who can thread through lines from defence is massive.
All things considered We've lost by One goal to a good PL side with a squad thrown together last minute having to play in a way many are not used to with some not used to playing at all having been out for so long.
I'd say Unai worked wonders to even achieve that. And the players will be better for it.

    • @julieround6928
      @julieround6928 27 дней назад +1

@outofthetrash5925 good point about them slotting into the core squad 1 or 2 at a time and I can see individually they would improve that way. All the players know our style and they've all been round the first team for a decent amount of time but yes it just didn't quite click. I take comfort in the fact that hopefully I won't see that performance again for the rest of this season anyway 🤞

While I understand the reasons for rotating the team.I am disappointed we should be aiming to win this competition. Realistically start of the season champions league we won't win the Premier league we won't win FA Cup slim chance and Carabo Cup is probably our best chance. While Unai has done an amazing job, I want to see this team win something tonight is a missed opportunity.

Do you honestly think he would be back at the club if that were true??. Unai's a stickler for respect & discipline. An occasional swagger indicates confidence & arrogance, it's a fine line. But i don't think your comment is based on anything substantive, remember his performance against Bayern Munich, exemplary commitment. Sticking labels on someone is lazy.
Hopefully not a case of the Big Ron's where you only make these comments about players who have higher levels of melanin in their skin. And before anyone accuses me of playing the race card we've always had a small grubby following of a few dozen out & out racists. Because we're a very multicultural club it's sometimes swept under the carpet. The situation in Gaza has brought a few anti-semites and islamaphobes out of the woodwork in the fan base, even when we currently have Muslim players in the first team

People can say "We have more important games and bigger fish to fry" but it's this mentality that is the reason why we haven't won anything since 1996.
    I want to win something.
Realistically we can only win the League Cup and the FA Cup and we have to win something soon otherwise all this "success" is hollow.
I don't want to be Spurs.
I've never criticised Emery but I'm really disappointed in him tonight.
I'm okay with that starting lineup but you have to bring at least 5 of the first team players to sort things out if things aren't going right.
Tonight Emery was either very naive or didn't care about winning and they aren't things that I associate with Emery or his Aston Villa.

  • @supervillan326
    @supervillan326 27 дней назад

    Totally agree with your assessment.
After the first 10mins, Mings looked like the player he was pre-injury and was the best player on the pitch last night. Kamara looked mostly classy, but had a few “casual” moments, like he used to have when he first joined. He needs to get back up to the pace of play again. I personally thought Duran had a good game given that he had very little service. Bailey looked slightly improved on recent performances.
Kosta was poor first half but I thought he was better in the second. Conversely, Philogene and Maatsen were decent in the first half but poor in the second, Gauci needed to get off his line and Emi B kept giving up possession.
Mings and Kamara were the highlights of the evening. So good to have big Ty back! 😊

  • @outofthetrash5925

It is what it is. Unai removed the temptation to risk some of the main guys by not bringing them. He knows the PL is the most important.
Mathematically We're going to lose games but not likely back to back. We've got One out of the way, so onto Spurs for 3 points. 🤞 They're be boosted mentally by beating City (even they weakened their side) but physically tired from doing so.

Losing to Palace isn’t good, but there were 10 changes from the norm, I am sure us fans should be thinking of the long game, Premier League and Champions League. Tonight Unai rested the first team, Pep just announced that City have 13 fit players. Villa hopefully have a full squad to pick from going forward. I am not suggesting that we win the Prem or Champions league , but remember, we are in a good position. In Unai we trust. Up the Villa.

Mostly just a big shrug of a game. Losing is never fun but glad no one got hurt and the young players and players coming back from injury got time which was the most important thing for the game. Carlos had another Carlos game and yeah im no expert but seemingly Gauci should have done better with those goals. Never a bad thing to cut fixture congestion, this cup would have been cool but it was at best 4th priority, its a competition which shouldn't exist anymore.

A lot of our play (palace) is down to pressing & forcing mistakes from the opposition in the final 3rd, which we did very well. Without Lerma, Doucouré & Wharton, our buildup play suffers. But our pressing was very good & our back 3 in particular were excellent. Had it been earlier in the season, we would’ve been beaten very easily due to our lacklustre pressing. But you faced us at a time when our players were just starting to click & it showed. Regardless of the lineups, Glasner & Kamada both have a decent record against Emery, so I expected a close game regardless

Kamara played okay. Mings played okay. They are rusty, no doubt. I'll have to go back and watch it again, but I don't feel like Kamara did a great job of seeing the field (besides one or two over the top balls) and neither did Mings. I feel Pau and Youri are playing a level above those guys right now and that was easy to see from tonight. Mings had some good defensive plays that we just don't see from Pau. So I appreciate that dynamic. I would like to see more of Kamara and Mings getting worked in. Overall, this is a really talented team. I feel like if Tielemans and Ollie had played at any point during this match the outcome would have been different. Give them 30 minutes of work. No big deal for them, but I feel it would have made a big difference just on a confidence level for other guys getting new minutes. Anyway, have a good night yall. UTV!

I would like to see us unleash a pyramid of Watkins, Durán & Rogers on an appropriate opponent. I still don't think we've really got out of second year yet & the players are capable of a lot more than they possibly believe. I still think the defeat to Arsenal was one of our best performances, we just couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo in that game, so many chances missed. I am convinced that there will be at least a couple of games this season where we're going to give someone a hammering. As i said i don't think we're cooking on anything near full has at the moment. I think the results have been better than the performances, but get those levels up & the goals will flow. We need more goals from the wingers and midfield. 13 of our 24 goals in all competitions have been scored by Watkins & Durán 🦁 WE MOVE! 🦁 UP THE VILLA!!

Ramsay should have come on OR started if in the squad. I think there should have been a little more depth on the bench and the second goal was atrocious on every level, literally embarrassing tbh. Buendia for me has had his time, upgrade needed. I think we will see more minutes with Duran and Watkins on the same pitch as the season goes on as Watkins can play in different roles.

Passionate rant so please excuse this message but I generally worry without Barkley or Teilemens in the middle of the park games like today have really been a mainstay for us in Cup Competitions. Where was the energy to go get some goals, players looked lost. Only positive was Mings back. Is Gauci a decent backup keeper to Martinez? Surely there can be better replacements. Carlos is another that makes me wonder what performance are we getting from him, some games he looks like a mistake happening anytime soon other times he looks amazing. When are we going to start taking cup seriously?! You are better losing 5-4 than looking clueless and lethargic. I want to see Aston Villa win a trophy in my lifetime but all the years of supporting them I am not seeing any adjustments to this dream happening anytime soon. Bumped into you on the stairs after the game, and I was so disappointed after tonight, as I felt with the players we had on the pitch, each one of them was individually capable of performing tonight. But it’s just a different story when they all start together, understandably. Happy mings and kamara got 90 mins. After listening to you mention about the B team, it doesn’t feel so bad I guess, and hard to expect too much when there has been 10 changes. On to the next one, hopefully it was worth all the resting by the time we have played spurs at the weekend 🤞 UTFV 💥💪

Was a good opportunity to get minutes in the legs for a lot of players. Slightly disappointed we made so many changes though. Had a real chance to go far in this competition. There's something wrong when finishing 4th is more valuable than winning a trophy but it is what it is. UTV

A quick question, does anyone know why the camera position was so low on the TV coverage?
I remember way back before the DE stand was built the camera position at VP was that low on the tiny old Witton lane stand. I really prefer it in it's usual position, higher up, looking down.

Taking the positives in Mings and Kamara but it's a disappointment to go out when a couple of wiser selections could have got us through I think. They looked lacking to be honest. But let's take the positives into the Prem and Champions League fixtures. UTV and applause to you guys for turning out with the fancam

Palace played a very strong team except for the GK. This was a young team that needed minutes as you say. That is the main takeaway. I think Kosta, Maatsen, Kamara give Emery something to think about regarding the CL and Prem. But yes, Philogene really underachieves a bit. Why does he beat a man then stand on the ball, slowing everything down? Just whip the ball in and ask questions of the defenders! Emery can't be pleased with that.

When I saw Palace's starting XI it was clear they were going for it. Gauci doesn't fill me with confidence, but he needs minutes so fair enough. Buendia looks devoid of all confidence, he's slow, he's losing the ball almost every time he receives it, he's going down far too easy, staying down (so we have 10 men) then apparently fine to continue minutes later. Really frustrating, I think he's out the door sadly. On a plus note - Bouba and Mings grew into the game and played pretty well. They're back! Kosta looked panicked. Maatsen was bizarrely slow and made poor decisions. Philogene, Bailey were poor. Passing, across the team, was really sloppy tonight. Kadan Young did nothing: receive, turn back, short pass.

Put Barclay into that team , makes a huge difference .. Asking Buendia to dominate at this point unlikely .. Mings made a tackle 29 mins , held my breath , got up and did 90 , fantastic .. We didn’t play awful , without being special .. Last 15 lost our way .. Kamara great .. Duran doesn’t look up , shoots from everywhere , which is obviously his strength, but a couple of times Buendia unmarked … Justin and Luke bang on.. Its a shame

11 changes and a bench full of kids, think it’s clear Emery wasn’t bothered about tonight 😂
On another note it’s not hard to see why Palace are struggling, think our strongest 11 will batter them next month.

Oh sorry, one more comment now. I totally disagree about Buendia. That is on Mings and Kamara to get him the ball in space. I feel this was widely overlooked tonight. Buendia did well for what he was dealt. He plays a tough position that is very dependent on others finding you. I think Buendia should have been targeted much much more this game.

Lost the ball outside of our box seen that bad pass last 2 years .thought jaden and Bailey could not hold the ball emi the same .missed a chance to win a cup .mings left and right back looked good . Duran looked like a good striker .plus bench onto good enough to change it .wasted opportunity.

To be honest, Mcginn, Buen dia were really poor. It's more on them, they didn't create any attacks for Duran, but he still scored and looked like the only one who was really fighting. Mings needs time, some of his balls were mediocre.

Shame Chelsea are out even though they have enough players to cope with 100 games.
Us, Chelsea and City all weakened their sides and went out. Spurs Newcastle Man Utd and Palace went full strength and remain in it. That should tell people where the priorities are for all these clubs.

Good to see Mings and Kamara back and looking like the players we had before their injuries.
McGinn did plenty of ball retention and maneuvers. Maatzen had a couple of exciting runs.
Otherwise, an uninspired performance devoid of any urgency or cohesion.
It would seem that we are so successful and laden down with the weight of our huge recent trophy count that we can spaff off a genuine chance at winning silverwear. Same as it ever was...
