EASY Twist Out Tutorial On Short Natural Hair

- My oh my, what a long way I have come -- what a long way I have come! I am pleased to say that my hair is finally at a length in which I can do more to it than a simple 'Wash and Go', haha! I recently began practicing how to do Twist-Outs and after a few failed attempts, finally found a method and product combination that worked for me. So of course, I had to record a tutorial. It came out very pretty!! I first went natural back in 1996. So from 1996 - 2008 all I used was oils, essential oils, and creams. I never used gels back then. I would keep the twists for at least 4-7 days and then twist out for 4-6 days. I had no knowledge of RUclips so I only learned from books, my mother, and inner inspiration. But for the past 11 years I was loc’ed, so I fell out of the loose natural hair movement. Will now I’m back! I cut off my locs over three weeks ago and loving my new loose natural hair again. I really like this. You made it seem so simple. So the question I have is how do you maintain the style for the next day. Do you re-twist before bed or sleep in a bonnet?
At this length I slept in a bonnet and then refreshed with oil the next morning!

~I Flat-Twist mine and tie it down with a Silk Wrap Scarf. Upon waking, I Untwist/Reshape and Spray with a light weight Sheen (oiling my scalp is part of my wash routine)~

Love it. I big chopped for the 2nd time in November and my hair is border line read6y to do a twist out. I struggled last night but I loved what you twisted your I will try the next time. That is if I can make myself do it again. It took over 2 hrs last night. THE STRUGGLE WAS REAL!!!!

How long does it last and what is the daily maintenance?
My twist outs usually last 4 - 5 days, I sleep with a satin lined bonnet and satin pillowcase to preserve it. Then refresh with oil in the mornings!

Did you let it dry before you decided to unravel or can I unravel while it still wet???
No no I always let it fully dry before unraveling. If you unravel while it's still wet then it will become frizzy and less defined. The style wont last more than a day!

Absolutely! The Aunt Jackie's gel has a nice hold but no flaking and gives my hair some bounce. It's my favorite!

hey there! whats worked for me was wearing a silk lined cap and putting oil on my scalp while theyre still in twists. I was able to wear the twists as a style for a few days before undoing them. Once i untwisted, i would wet it in the morning, gently apply my condiitoner and other products and continue sleeping in my cap at night. For reference, i have similar hair to the woman in the video and thats what works for me when i do this style. hope this helps

Definitely! Especially if you want more definition.
I have the same gel, however when I use that gel my hair flakes.
but then... like..i have to sleep at some point and it never looks as good as it does on day one :(
Ximena Castillo I know girl I feel that’s the case with most natural hairstyles. They aren’t the exact same every day, but I honestly feel they age better. Day one is sometimes a little toooo neat
