I just got this camera, so far I like it. I didn't realize the videos are mp4 format. All cameras I had always record in mov format. Now when I edit some files might be in mp4 and some in mov. I don't know if it would be better to convert the mp4 files to mov first.
+SEANA SPARKLE Hmm good question. I haven't run into any problems so far and the most I do is vlogs with footage from my iphone, DSLR and this G7X. I'd say if you're producing something serious then better to be in all same format so you don't run into any unexpected problems. :)

Do you happen to know the total time you can record a single video clip straight through without stopping? is it still limited to 29 mins? or 10 mins like i've seen some others discuss.

Thanks for giving a balanced review of this camera. I use a Canon T6i--as well as 2 GoPro-- but on a recent trip to Paris, I hated lugging around my Canon, I swore that I had to find a better solution. (The GoPros' batteries don't last long enough and I can't see what I'm shooting at the time AND the fact that the phone app with the GoPro is finicky and depends on WiFi--which in Paris was God-awful!) I've been looking at this G7 versus the Sony A5000 and this one seems to be wining in terms of a travel camera that gives equivalent quality. Thanks, again. :)
When using the Canon G7X, how do you work around the audio whirring and grinding noise the camera makes when shooting videos?
+Howie Young hmm do you mean when zooming in and out? Otherwise I don't get that same experience. And you can always record your audio externally.
@@BLKCITYCOFFEEROASTERS That's my only downside with the G7 X but using a second device (smartphone) to record audio not only cuts out the zooming noise but is clearer too.

Damn, well the main difference between the two that I noticed was the size of the Megapixels. I'm curious as to why this camera is better?
I considered that eBay deal before I got mine. I bought mine over Black Friday weekend for $549. It came with a bunch of extras like memory card, camera bag, usb card reader, cleaning kit so that wasn't too bad. Enjoy it Meg!!

+Fadl Afridi for vlogging the canon g7x is aces. But it depends what you want to do. 70d allows for interchangeable lenses, high quality shots and control. If you're just looking to create vlogs and nothing beyond that roll with the g7x

hmm maybeee. this camera versus a DSLR will be drastic, and that also depends on the lenses you use. It's really an open ended question.
How would you compensate for not having the ability to attach a mic. I'm looking for a camera that has the ability to record inside and outside with the option of a xlr
+Jay The Soulist the only way you can do that at the moment is with an external recording device. I use an XLR lapel mic hooked up to my zoom h4n
My camera has a faint rattle when it focuses. Does yours do that as well?? It's driving me crazy!

+Rose Chang depends what you're doing. I say this model is great for video bc I already have a dslr and it's cheaper than the ones you're thinking about. So I would think about your needs and then makes a decision based on that.

I bought this camera and there's a clicking noise when it auto focuses while filming. Does this happen to you? If so how do you make it stop/remove it?
+Jasmine Simone hmm I don't get that. Perhaps it's defective? The only clicking I know about is when I adjust the focal ring around the lens. Other than that the auto focus shouldn't make a sound

Nice review. I'm considering one of these as a B camera for my Canon 70D. My main reason for staying with Canon is to match the color gamut of my DSLR. Do you notice much difference in the color spectrum between your 70D and the G7X or does it match pretty well?
+Magnum There a difference yes. But since I'm not a professional it doesn't bother me much. I shoot neutral with both cameras and just try to color correct as best as possible in premiere.

If you're shooting in 60fps with your DSLR, how do you make it look like it's at lower fps on youtube? Is it your export settings or is it just how youtube changes it?

Battery. How's about the battery? I use my phone to make videos since it has big batteries and I can charge it anytime using powerbank 16000mAh.
+AMYunus The battery life isn't anything special. It lasts all day if I'm shooting clips here and there and taking pictures. But I need to buy a second one so I don't have to worry about it. :)

+Chesa Djanelle So for your case there's two ways you can look at it, if youre going to invest in lenses and want more control over your shot I'd go with the 70d, it's not as portable tho. On-camera audio isn't that great either. the g7x is portable and does the job for youtube vids for me. Not as much control but incredibly versatile, i just took it with me all over for vlogging in seattle last week.

I thought that too but I honestly bought one from there. And it's boss. I just make sure the seller is reputable. And they have a good rating. Plus I got a bunch of bonus crap with it. I think with Amazon you know 100% its reputable. Less researching. Also you can get it faster if you choose prime. Also returning it will also be less hassle if you have to.

Its a great little camera, however one of the cons is dust coming in on the inside of lens and on the sensor.....inexcusable!

+Timia Griffin as far as a point and shoot goes, you can manipulate it in manual and get some great portraits. Night shots are not as good id say.

I'm sort of at a dilemma myself, maybe you can aid & assist me. I'm torn between this Canon Camera and the Sony NEX-5T that you reviewed back aforetime, and you utilized the Zoom H4N (I was looking into obtaining the newer model Zoom H4NPro myself), and I wanted to know do you still use your Zoom H4N with this Canon G7X ? For from what I understand the Canon G7X DOES NOT utilize any type of lavalier mic (not even my fav Audio Technica AT899).😯
So could I use the Zoom H4NPro with this Canon G7X I want to purchase now ?

Sorry for late response, you could use the zoom with the g7x if you like. I simply always go withe the on-camera audio for casual videos in my bedroom. But if you did want better audio, yes you would need something external to capture it.:)

Well with the Rebel you'll have the flexibility to get more lenses for different shots. So if you're making films I would go that way.

hi, does it have skin smoothening effect? and does it overheat??
I dont' believe it does. and it does get warm after shooting for a long time. And depending on the setting it will only record for about 29 mins and stop recording then turn off.

The only problem with going the ebay "gray market" route is you're buying a camera that won't have an american warranty. You have to weigh that against the savings.

The autofocus for video is why i bought a5100 instead of g7x/rx100. I really want a premium compact, too bad it doesnt stack up.

Get in the Lab not really... i bought it for $450 last 2 week. was $649 when it launched in 2015 tho. it's around the same as g7x. rx100 is a bit out of my range.
but since you just bought the camera, im just giving a headsup. the AF is really, really good. i use it for travel videos and so far test run it never went out of focus and focus snappier, with control to change focus really fast, medium, or slow change focus.
i used to own a nex 5r (same as 5t, without nfc) and i get what you mean. and even with phase detect, it's not that fast. a5100 have the same sensor and AF as a6000, only with vlog friendly (albeit plasticky) body. :)
oh what! dang I missed out. Perhaps for my 3rd camera, which I plan on picking up this year.
