I’m from New Jersey and I moved to Seattle in 2004. I L O V E this city ❤️ It was initially hard to make friends and adjusting to the rain was shocking that first year, but I acclimated fast and never want to leave. ❤️
Loved that Rachel was in this one! Three years ago I moved here from Florida and Rachel and Monica's videos where all that I watched to get pumped for it and to learn more about Seattle! Best decision I made was moving here!
I’m about to relocate from Seattle to San Francisco, but I’m gonna miss Seattle. I love the Pacific Northwest! It’s amazing here!!! So beautiful and a lot to do.
I grew up in nor cal and have lived in San Diego/LA the past 4 years and after visiting Seattle last year I have really been considering moving up there because I fell in love with the city/nature and everything. Also work in Tech so I feel like everything flows together. But I'm scared to get out there and have no friends/family over there lol
This was such an awesome video. I loved hearing how differently they explained the way they felt about the city and the things they found interesting and how their answers for best places were are different!
Funny I had a nightmare and felt uneasy told myself I wanted to watch Monica she’ll make me relax and here we are! I’m originally from southern Illinois, moved to Texas one semester didn’t have a great education experience so I went to Indiana. I love my teachers but man do I hate the area I’m in. I always thought I hated home but whenever I go back I realize how much I love it! Most people are taught to move away but I’m definitely moving back once I’m done with undergrad and hope to stay close if I choose to continue on. I was literally dreaming about being at home but had to either call off of work or drive back and make it just in time to clock in. I say I want to move try Seattle all the time but who knows maybe I will maybe I won’t.
I was born and raised in Seattle, and while I love that so many people now understand why we have always been so proud of our city, I admit that it is in many ways entirely different from when I grew up. That's fine, life moves on, things change. I chose to leave Seattle because of the weather, and because it was growing too fast for me once the tech companies took over. I like to tell people that when I was a kid the tallest building in Seattle was the Smith Tower (happy that your friend liked that building!) Then came the Sea-First building, which was renamed SAFCO Plaza. We called it 'the box the Space Needle came in,' because it was this big ugly black box that was around 50 stories high. I don't know what it is called now. Anyway, happy to watch your videos to remind me that while I no longer want to live in Seattle, it is still a great city and a wonderful place to live for so many.
Is there like...a Facebook group or something... for transplants looking to make friends?! Hahaha. Hoping to move to Seattle next year myself, but I feel like being older (I'm in my 30's) it's even harder meeting new people to hang out with. Anyway...Love your content, Monica! :)
@@marystravellife I think London would be easiest because of the language, but I also really enjoyed my visits to Copenhagen. @@VKat I used to live in London and it’s a great place to live! You can basically travel the whole country including Scotland by bus & train for cheap prices. When I visited Berlin I didn’t like it that much either. I moved back to Seattle in August 2021 and I’m still here :)
Portlander here.. I LOVE Seattle for trips, it's a blessing to be only 3 hours away. I moved to Austin, TX for a new experience though because I needed the sunshine, I fucking LOVE Austin. A difference in culture is amazing for me! I don't think very many Oregonians move to Washington since they are so very similar, but Oregon is more friendly and more affordable. I also find Oregon to be a lot more geared towards hippies where as Seattle has a classy business metropolitan feel. I love every visit to Seattle it has an elevated and fresh feel! Your videos are awesome by the way. PNW LOVE
I'm from Seattle. Moved away 5 years ago ! I'm in Texas in Houston and it's now reached its limit for me. It's ghetto here. 😩. I'm ready to move back home but to an area I did not grow up !
@janelytoledo5641 Seattle has beaitful summers. Cost of living is more but jobs also pay more. Great transportation systems. Most people live on outskirts of seattle... 15-20 mins outside city limits. Kent /renton/seatac to name a few places.
as a recent transplant. this was a really cool video to see the insights of other transplants and being able to know what places they were talking about was cool. Seattle totally has a vibe and I love it.
Great video! I think about moving to the PNW a lot (I’ve visited twice and LOVED it), so hearing about Seattle from a transplant’s perspective is really interesting!
one thing about Seattle is, people seem soo just genuine and chill. honestly I would prefer to be ghosted/flaked on than to force hangouts with people who don't wanna hang, either with me or just at that time. I seriously feel like Seattle is my vibe
Seattle is similar to Vancouver (Canada) it actually sucks when you’re constantly flaked or ghosted even on dating apps. Dating is terrible. And people rather hang out with their partner only everyday and forget about their friends as if they never existed. Not what it’s cracked up to be.
Walk down Pioneer square near the court or even Pike Place Market area and you wouldn't want to live in Seattle. Was not like this a few years ago. It's getting really bad. Now if you stay in MI, Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland you will have a great time.
yes basically draw a line from highway 167, 405, up to I-5 anything east of that will be nice area. go west then you have to look for areas that are nicer out of the whole community.
I can relate both to "sort of" being from here, in that I was born as raised in Spokane, and to being/feeling like a transplant, in that after I left Spokane to join the Army at age 18 in 1978, I lived in so many different places in the US and around the world. I finally ended up in the Puget Sound area (via then-Ft. Lewis) in the Army in 1988, left the Army in 1990, and settled in Seattle in 1991. (It feels ironic to me now that I've lived in the Seattle city proper longer than I've lived anywhere else!) Your video touched on so many good points, and the one about the Seattle Freeze resonated with me. I've found that finding friends through shared interests and activities really helped me to start to overcome the "Freeze". But people here are definitely reserved, in my experience, much like in a lot of Northern European places. But I'm constantly amazed by the fantastic natural beauty of the region and I really love living in a city by the water.
I thought the Seattle Freeze was about the shitty weather and got all confused when they started talking about making friends, so I googled the term, now I understand lol
Love this video! Please do more like it! Girl I would move to Seattle if I could afford it! I’m born and raised in Texas and I hate it here, Austin is the only place worth living and I do love this city for what it is but the pacific north west is the best! The nature, the water, the food, the culture, the proximity to Canada, the weather, I dream of moving there someday!
I came from Houston. Been up here in Portland for about 6 months now but I also spend alot of time in Seattle as well. When and if you get the chance, do it. I love texas and I've got to visit alot of the country but nothing compares to the pacific northwest. It's even more amazing than you think it's gonna be.
I was born and raised here in Seattle and yet some of my best friends are recent transplants. I find it funny how locals always complain about the new people and yet, that's what it took me to beat the freeze.
I was born and raised here in Seattle, but moved to a more rural town. I won’t go back. There’s no more Seattlites in Seattle, just a bunch of transplants and I hate each and everyone of them.
I find it hard to believe a Seattle native experienced the freeze. I’ve never heard of that. I’m 4th generation from Seattle and I love the freeze. Seattle is for people who don’t want to bother others, and those who don’t like being bothered.
Super introverted. I need friends. Guess I'm not moving to Seattle. I live in CT and the freeze is a thing here too. My social time is when I'm driving to and from work and I get to sit in traffic with all these beautiful people.
Moved to Seattle from Orange County (Irvine) and lived there for 10 years(West Seattle off 35th and then to Beacon Hill). I was immediately hit with the Seattle Freeze.. It took a minute to make friends but I eventually met my wife (PNW Local) and It didn't take long to convince her to move back to CA with me!
I was born and raised in Victoria, BC which is just across the border from Port Angeles, Washington .. super close to Seattle. I’ve always liked Seattle but it’s too close to where I was born and raised. I prefer sunnier climates and don’t mind the snow ❄️ as well. I’m not a huge fan of rain 🌧 since I was born and raised with it in Victoria … but now live in Madison, Wisconsin which I love. Winters here are much colder with snow plus we also get a lot more sunshine here as well. But Seattle is a really awesome high tech city.
It’s me and my husband dream to end up to Seattle in the next few years. My favorite part is the weather plus the cost of living is similar to that of living in Southern California. We’re visiting in six weeks and I can’t wait to return. I’ve always wanted to move to Washington since I was teenager but had never been. We finally visited in September 2021 and we were ready to pack up our life in San Diego and move the day after we returned. I think I’ll be okay with the Seattle freeze because I have two friends and I mostly just want to be by myself and doing things alone.
I was born and raised in California. Moved to Iowa after college then moved to the Seattle area right before the pandemic hit. Alot of the aspects that were described in your video I felt aren't unique to just moving to Seattle. Even though the midwest is known to have friendly people, it still felt like a "Seattle Freeze". It was hard for me to make friends and I had to really try by intentionally putting myself out there. Most of my friends in Iowa are the people I worked with but that friendship did not build easily and most of them are also transplants to that area. People were always nice to your face but they would rarely invite you to go do anything with them or hangout outside of work. It wasn't because they were mean but because they were comfortable with their set of friends they've made over the years of living there. I feel the same way here in Seattle. The pandemic definitely didn't help though in making new friends so only time will tell. I loved all the places I've lived so far. Each place has their own unique characteristics and charm! But so far I've been loving Seattle even during this pandemic!! :D FYI, west coast best coast =P
This was interesting to watch. I moved to Seattle right after my high school graduation in 2006, then moved away from Washington in 2011. Crazy to see how much Seattle has exploded and changed. It was a growing experience to live here in my teens and early twenties, but I can't say I miss it, especially with how much it's deteriorating.

I moved from Hawaii to Charleston South Carolina for college. I thought my life would be in Charleston but decided to move to Seattle right before the Pandemic hit. All my friends I made were at the Dog Park, to be honest. It's not that hard to make friends :)
This is a great video and fun! Ugh I put it in my watch later and completely forgot about it. Transplant here! I could see this being really helpful for someone considering moving here and someone who just moved here.
I just moved from flint MI to the Fremont district of seattle Wa and it encumbered everything that I wanted in life. I've always had an adventurous spirit about me and it embodied everything that I wanted for myself in the present and for the future!
Making friends in Seattle is impossible., unless you already know people. I didn't know anyone there and tried for a decade. I left with only 2 friends. I only hear from one of them once I left.
I was born and grew up in the surrounding area of Seattle. Moved to North Carolina when I was 15... 16 years later I am in Florida and want to move back to the Seattle area. Miss it alot everytime I think about it. But it's a bit scary to think about moving there cause I don't have family or much of a friend system on the west coast. I still really miss it there.
Could you make a video about the options of public transport in Seattle? Do people use cars as much as in LA? Or they can use the sub or bus to travel around the city? :)
Don’t move here. Public transportation sucks and is unsafe. Very car dependent and lots of traffic. Also there’s the Seattle freeze. Maybe Portland or Atlanta would be better.
I grew up near seattle there are do many things to do. Water mountains boating riberd for fishing. Puget Sound is gorgeous. Add Mt Rainier . To the beauty
I've never lived in Seattle, only visited, and only made friends because my partner knew someone there. It's hard to make friends anywhere after college- that has been my experience everywhere I've lived (Portland, Miami, the Midwest, the South, etc.) As one of the girls said, and as my experience has been as well- it's easier if you already know someone there, because then you can meet new people through their friends
Would you be open to doing a video of the surrounding towns like Bellevue or Bothell? For those that want to live in more of the residential areas? Thanks!!
I also moved from Hawaii. I lived all my life in Hawaii for 40 years and was getting nowhere because of the price of paradise. I moved across the water (Bremerton), but I love Seattle and went every weekend. I made friends (in Seattle) from going out 😆. I know this video is geared towards young techies, but after living here in Washington State for 15 years, I'm never leaving. Yes, pricey around Seattle but there are other places to live and then there's nature. Nature is everywhere!
I’m originally from Phoenix, Arizona and want to move to Seattle one day! It’s just way too hot here and the summers get so depressing. Arizona is apparently going to be running out of water soon and it’s just way too crowded. You have to drive everywhere and the public transportation is a joke. Looking forward to exploring a much cozier vibe! Thanks for the video Monica :)

I don’t want more people to move to seattle, it has changed a lot and not for the better. I’m 4th generation Seattle (same w my husband), and want my kids to be 5th generation.

Yes, I can’t work or live in the city anymore. At least with so many transplants. I'm moving to Seattle from NYC in a few months and I can't wait! I grew up in Wisconsin, then spent the last 11 years in NYC and after being cooped up for 2 years, decided it was time for a change of scenery (and coast). If you have a problem with it maybe you should leave or take it up with Amazon employees since it seems like they are truly dominating the city you care about.
I’m the opposite, moved from Seattle to DC. I like DC so far but I do miss how beautiful Seattle is!
I'll be driving to seattle from DC next weekend to begin a new job. I hope you've settled in well and are enjoying your new life!
@@robotikempire oh wow! hope the drive goes well. I really like it here and I actually just got back from visiting my parents in DC and the whole time I missed Seattle. So you can say I am enjoying my new life! You are going to love the weather :) feel free to PM me with any questions or anything!
I've visited Seattle once in December but grew up in Wisconsin so the winter didn't bother me much. Now after living in Phoenix for 6 years I need to give my sweat glands a break and I'm thinking of moving up there next year. I'll be visiting in October and I can't wait! These videos have always been an inspiration for me.
That’s funny I’m actually going in October too! Originally from New York and living in California for work. Seattle has been a place I always wanted to move too😌
Monica’s videos encouraged me to move from phoenix to seattle for sure. i moved here in june. there was soooooo much i had to get used to when i moved here but i fully romanticized the idea of the cozy, rainy city and i will not give a full analysis of my opinion of this city until i’ve experienced winter!
1 year later ....
Yeah, what is your analysis now?
@@ilikexboxalot3060 the winters are really mild! everyone seems to complain about the winters, especially locals, but it’s really not bad! im originally from south dakota so im used to extreme weather and brutal winters. i much prefer the rainy winters here!
@@thrashingmetal i love it here! :) the winters are so mild and the summers are the best in the nation in my opinion! i also love that seattle is big enough to have a beautiful downtown with interesting architecture yet small enough to have lots of neighborhoods outside the city center. the light rail has been very convenient for me and im excited for them to expand the lines. the pay here is so much better than any of the other cities i’ve lived in. i was making $35k/yr in phoenix and now i make $80k/yr. (started at $52k when i moved here and have had substantial wage increases and 1 promotion). i like the work culture here. i have so many sick/mental health/vacation days i never had before. the air is so much better here (aside from forest fire days). the water is better. being surrounded by water is incredible. my one complaint is that i think everyone here drives like a grandma but aside from that im loving it!
@@xtw1995 I'm an Iowan, so I definitely know what harsh winters are like! I'm going to Seattle in May for two weeks and am super stoked. Glad to hear you like it. It's my dream city! My goal is to hit up every neighborhood in the city and do the major attractions when I AirBnB there.
I’m from New Jersey and I moved to Seattle in 2004. I L O V E this city ❤️ It was initially hard to make friends and adjusting to the rain was shocking that first year, but I acclimated fast and never want to leave. ❤️
I am lost between Seattle WA and Denver CO, what do u think??
Loved that Rachel was in this one! Three years ago I moved here from Florida and Rachel and Monica's videos where all that I watched to get pumped for it and to learn more about Seattle! Best decision I made was moving here!
My partner and I are moving from Florida to Seattle at the end of the month! So nice to see someone else has had a positive experience there! :D
But I'm scared to get out there and have no friends/family over there lol
i moved here from Los Angeles in January and I absolutely love it! It's a manageable small city and the people are super cool.
not exactly a small city, its a large city just not L.A. lol….where i live is a small city haha
I've been living in Seattle for 5 year and love living here. I don't miss the hot and humid places at all.
This was such an awesome video. I loved hearing how differently they explained the way they felt about the city and the things they found interesting and how their answers for best places were are different!
I love Seattle and hope to experience living there one day (currently in southern AZ, I hate the heat)
I’m also from Arizona and am hoping to move to Seattle. I also cannot stand the heat
@@nicolea8205 Agree with both of you. From Tucson but now live in Phoenix, NOT looking forward to another 100* October :)
I'm in my 30's too and have thought about moving to Seattle.
28 moving to Seattle (from Europe) next week ☺️
I’m 23 and I want to move to Seattle sometime next year too!
Moved to Seattle in May and also realizing it’s so hard to make friends as you get older. I’m 27 but have an old soul. Always happy to meet up!
@@lisas7878 Hej! I’m 28 moving to Seattle next week (Lynnwood area). Which neighbourhood are you at?
I’m interested in the “Seattle Freeze”, seems more relaxed vs. hyper extroverted where you have the space to relax without someone in your face 24/7.
I'm not even from America or even from continent and Seattle is my dream city to live in, hope one day i will
I’m from Europe dreaming of living in Washington. I lived there for 2 years and soon I’m moving back and I’m so excited. I just love this place!
I’m from California but currently live in Seattle. I dream of moving to Europe, so opposite you!
@@VKat Oh I wish we'd have some California sunshine in Seattle! Which country in Europe would you like to move to?
@@marystravellife I think London would be easiest because of the language, but I also really enjoyed my visits to Copenhagen. Most probable might be Zurich though because my husband has Swiss citizenship (even though he’s American born), and Switzerland is central. I love France and Italia too, but would likely just visit regularly. My sister-in-law lives in Berlin but I didn’t like it there too much. What part of Europe are you from? Are you moving back to Seattle or a different part of WA?
@@VKat I used to live in London and it’s a great place to live! You can basically travel the whole country including Scotland by bus & train for cheap prices. My home in Austria is close to the border of Switzerland and Germany (about a 20 min drive away). I never lived in Switzerland but it’s a beautiful country.
😩. I'm ready to move back home but to an area I did not grow up !
hey!! Im thinking of moving away from Houston to seattle. haha. is it better??
@janelytoledo5641 Seattle has beaitful summers. Cost of living is more but jobs also pay more. Great transportation systems. Most people live on outskirts of seattle... 15-20 mins outside city limits. Kent /renton/seatac to name a few places.
Oh yeah Texas us ghetto in general lol especially Houston.
I used to live In Houston, currently in Austin. Its the same people from Houston so it sucks.
as a recent transplant. this was a really cool video to see the insights of other transplants and being able to know what places they were talking about was cool.
What is MI ?
@@rjvizaka..dprrob1972 Mercer island
yes basically draw a line from highway 167, 405, up to I-5 anything east of that will be nice area. go west then you have to look for areas that are nicer out of the whole community.
(It feels ironic to me now that I've lived in the Seattle city proper longer than I've lived anywhere else!)
Your video touched on so many good points, and the one about the Seattle Freeze resonated with me. I've found that finding friends through shared interests and activities really helped me to start to overcome the "Freeze". But people here are definitely reserved, in my experience, much like in a lot of Northern European places.
But I'm constantly amazed by the fantastic natural beauty of the region and I really love living in a city by the water.
Every time I move from Seattle, I come back! lol It's home...what can you say?! I feel the next move will be permanent though but I will always visit.
I thought the Seattle Freeze was about the shitty weather and got all confused when they started talking about making friends, so I googled the term, now I understand lol
lmao
It’s a real thing
The Washington freeze.

It’s real and I love it. Seattle isn’t supposed to be for everyone :)
Such a great video idea! Wish more people did this with various cities
Interesting to hear transplant perspectives on the city you’re from!
@@msi8311 lmao what the actually ?&(#. You guys are weird.
Would you ever consider doing a (covid safe) meet up? To help us seattle transplants combat the freeze??

Super introverted. I need friends. Guess I'm not moving to Seattle. I live in CT and the freeze is a thing here too. My social time is when I'm driving to and from work and I get to sit in traffic with all these beautiful people.
As a Swede I really want to visit, I love rain and the gloomy weather is seems so cozy. How cold is it in winter though?
Did you move here??? 🫶🏽

Love that you’re posting more and the real estate content!
Seattle is such an amazing place! I'm sad I didn't get to explore much but definitely loved living there.
Sold my 800sq foot house in LA for 5 million. Just bought a mansion up in Seattle for the same price. Love it here.
THIS IS THE VIDEO FOR ME. Tucson, AZ is home, college in CO, worked in FL, now live in Phoenix, AZ and Seattle is where I want to settle. Always love your expertise combined with Seattle content :)

I moved from Hawaii to Charleston South Carolina for college. I thought my life would be in Charleston but decided to move to Seattle right before the Pandemic hit. All my friends I made were at the Dog Park, to be honest. It's not that hard to make friends :)
How’s Seattle going?
Seattle has a special magic to it.

Is it more like NYC in terms of traveling? Or is it more like L.A that you need to use your car all the time?
Don’t move here. Public transportation sucks and is unsafe. Very car dependent and lots of traffic. Also there’s the Seattle freeze. Maybe Portland or Atlanta would be better.
Great video, i think i need to do a video on the seattle freeze i just moved here from Louisiana
AHHHH Monica, you did such a good job with this one!! I still have to see Kerry Park on a clear day during sunset… then maybe it won’t be overrated 🙈
You're making a good case for Seattle!!!
I’ve lived here 52 years. The surrounding area is beautiful but Seattle is no longer the town I remember. Breaks my heart. Good luck, I’m moving.
Where are you going to go? No place is the same as it was 50 years ago.
Yeah when I first left Oregon for LA it was good for a bit but then I was like I need to get back PNW for life
I’m getting Seattle freeze :/ just moved here… maybe it’s cuz I’m 29.. idk, but it’s rough
I think of Seattle as a pile of wet concrete and yes I spent a couple years there. Can't take the winters
I visited Arizona a few weeks ago, it's such a beautiful state. But beyond the beautiful scenery it felt boring. Let's not talk about the radio stations were horrible.
Just finding you on all my Seattle dreaming content and wanting to commiserate over our Phoenix summer loathing lol

I'm from California and same. Hell, I've even visited Seattle twice in the late fall (December 2018 and November 2019). Seattle is paradise to me. :vampire:
Please tell the fella designing bike lanes to keep it up. Seattle needs more!!
They’ve ruined our streets, and they’re dangerous now that bikes don’t have to stop at stop signs to cross roads, they just jet out in front of traffic like retards.
Ahh yay I love yours and Rachel’s videos, i moved to a Seattle suburb when I was a freshman in high school and fell in love with PNW!! The trees, fall, the rain, just such a unique and perfect vibe, and now I’m a real estate agent here! 🤍🤍🤍
