@Tiffany Patton I agree. I had a Standardbred that was shoeless its entire 26 years. Never had a problem on any of the trails we rode, when using the right boot for the conditions. I wonder would hackamore bridal work for driving? 💯x👏🏽🙏🏽👍🏽
For the record, many would argue, bit less bridles and curb chains are possibly much more harmful or ineffective than using a bit...It would be interesting to see the level of control if curb chain was removed.....
What's a curb chain? I don't know what that is, but I do know what a bitless bridle is. Are you talk'n traditional, or new age? Cuz the new age ones can hurt more than the traditional ones, I've heard. The new age ones I think hurt the horses nose and rubs a lot causing bold spots/rashes.
Back in the early 90s I met British horse drawn family on the road in Lyon, France...best thing they said was leaving UK's climate to the shorter European winters....but now, because of Brexit, that lifestyle is no longer possible!
It's a tough life, especially if she is on her own. But - once 'living free' i should imagine you would never want to give it up. I've only experienced the feeling as a mum going camping in a camper with my kids...lovely for a while to just park on the beach where allowed & let the kids loose, but then I was on holiday so I could enjoy the 'free as a bird' feeling without having to earn money while doing that. However you soon start to miss 'home comforts', especially bathrooms & running water ! Then there's the damp in UK - that can get to your bones....those mudddy horses are showing hard hard it is to deal with ! God luck to this young woman tho !
After travelling for almost 2 decades with horses, training as a farrier(Dip wcf- not pretend farrier) I would be very surprised if this rig moves very often, possibly why being barefoot on tarmacadam roads is not big problem...The shape, axles and especially the "mini"wheels are totally unpractical for this type of wagon...
England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland literally spent centuries trying to expel and deport them, yet still some remain. The general reputation of Travellers among the British population has always been extremely poor. So bad, in fact, that in the latter-half of the 18th Century, it was a serious criminal offence for an Englishman or woman to have converse with a Traveller; to the extent of an Assize record of a 14-year old girl being executed for doing so. Jane Austen, in Emma, even has them appear in a brief scene that makes little sense if you aren't aware of this dangerous legal existence.
Beautiful seeing ppl still living the old life, soon to return, with the way things are going globally, would've love to see a double team pull the caravan and cart, easier for both horses, so they can help each other, then again I don't know the ability of each horse, owners know the capabilities of their animals, still a absolutely beautiful sight, enjoy and travel safely GOD bless you'll
Many choose this lifestyle in the US using RVs. Sadly RVs quit working and they end up living on the side of the road homeless. They should make it possible for people to ride the US in horses. Some people just don't like the sedentary life
I thinks its a lot more cost effective to get your RV or camper fixed than it is to keep horses. But yea America isnt very easy to traverse without a car of some sort, which should change.
@Tiffany Patton if you cant drive a car you probably cant ride a horse in public traffic. i dont think having service animals is a bad idea, that just wasnt related to my point. Im talking about using them for general transportation, which should be more acessible to disabled people, but i feel like most people arent comfortable riding horses in this period in time, let alone someone with a physical disability. I think that specific transport and publics transport needs to accommodate them better and be more accessible, in the form of busses, because its a lot easier and cheaper to transport many disabled or special needs people on a bus than it is on a horse and buggy. personally if i were physically disabled id rather have a special bus than ride a horse to wherever im trying to get lol, not that i dont like them, but that seems extremely inconvenient for most people, especially if you live in the suburbs or city.
You can still use horse carriages on public roads in the US (the Amish use them all the time), the only legal requirements are that you must have a slow-moving-vehicle sign (an orange triangle) on the back of the carriage and the carriage must fit in one lane.
it's a shame the worlds changed so much in the last 120 years,i don't think it's all for the better, where will it end, what will it be like a 120 years from now,we will never know
It looks attached with a harness, it's probably the safest place for it to walk as it likely runs out in the road / can't be trusted in traffic. I did wonder why it wasn't sitting on the cart at the back, then realized exercise is better for it, dogs love to walk for miles!
@@matthewdowd4686 Dude stfu. You don't know the real reason the dog is under the carriage. The black is free to roam and well trained. The white dog maybe still in training.
MY own driving changed considerably after getting to know kelly and other horsedrawn folk, (not that I was a careless diver before). After all horses came before cars!
Yes, the dog is happy there. A few people have commented on this. Please be assured everyone, all Kelly's animals are well looked after. If the dog did not want to be here it could easily ride in the wagon.
@@NomadArchitecture As I'm going through the comments I'm being left in mild shock at the animosity towards your friend. But not surprised. @@punchedboredorcountersunk3248 No offence, but it took me a while to work out that "servial" (as you spelt it) was meant to be survival and not servile, as I was interpreting it. Didn't know what you meant at first. If you live in the UK I don't think that is a way to remain free in a totalitarian state. On our current trajectory the worst case scenatio won't alllow for for bands of homless itinerant travellers in a small - ish nation covered with CCTV & ANPR cameras. Plus, "home owners" have always been at least mistrustful of travellers. Travellers are easily kettled and funnelled to wherever the stasi want them. Such as repurposed military bases with razor wire facing inwards. I think more people are going to try this life over the next ten years, and some might find a way to make it work in their favor (in Scotland and Wales - maybe). But I think the powers that be will come down on it hard if thousands of people did start living in vans, buses, trucks and caravans again. If you know or remember what happened to the "Peace Convoy" under Thatcher?
Not a traveller , travellers are a breed apart , and they drive vans now , but still deal in Horses ,are for the most part Irish ,and I wouldn't want to tangle with them . This is a New age middle class girl living the dream , until she gets ill then she will ring to daddy , but good luck to her

Well, I cannot speak for Kelly, but I lived on a boat for years. I washed in a bowl just like most people used to before fitted bathrooms became the norm, I also had a network of friends where I could wash clothes and have the occasional bath. Money is always a question for travelling people. Kelly does a beautiful job painting horseshoes and such, and also builds wagons for other people. Other travellers have all sorts of ways of earning a living, from seasonal work on farms to making and selling things.

i dont know the traffic law there in Britain. to what category is the horse drawn cart classified on the road? bicycle? car? and if the horse and the cart r separated, r there any legal differences between separated or unified?
Well, classified as horse drawn vehicle not surprisingly. They are of course a very old way of moving around here and there are a few bridleways that they can use but cars cannot (a much disputed area).
the horses , strength for their configuration unlike the authentic race horses slim to run faster the equation of speed and weight and the dog ploughing the road first

I could easily live in a Gypsy Caravan, on the road, to parts unknown in midWest USA. Thanks for rekindling that dream. 🤗😉
Love the shoeless, boots too.

@@echotrash466 it’s a chain that goes under their chin, you get curb straps which are just leather straps that go under their chin.

Beautiful video I'm from ireland I love my culture
Back in the early 90s I met British horse drawn family on the road in Lyon, France...best thing they said was leaving UK's climate to the shorter European winters....but now, because of Brexit, that lifestyle is no longer possible!
😇😍😻😆😁
So how has Brexit made it impossible ?
Like the old type caravans like to draw them and paint them fabulous
What a great way to live 😊😊
It's a tough life, especially if she is on her own. But - once 'living free' i should imagine you would never want to give it up. I've only experienced the feeling as a mum going camping in a camper with my kids...lovely for a while to just park on the beach where allowed & let the kids loose, but then I was on holiday so I could enjoy the 'free as a bird' feeling without having to earn money while doing that. However you soon start to miss 'home comforts', especially bathrooms & running water ! Then there's the damp in UK - that can get to your bones....those mudddy horses are showing hard hard it is to deal with ! God luck to this young woman tho !

yes, apparently
Is the dog underneath pulling weight as well? Or just shy lol
Second viewing: I love it.👏💖
After travelling for almost 2 decades with horses, training as a farrier(Dip wcf- not pretend farrier) I would be very surprised if this rig moves very often, possibly why being barefoot on tarmacadam roads is not big problem...The shape, axles and especially the "mini"wheels are totally unpractical for this type of wagon...

florescent clothing wouldn't go amiss for the benefit of these lovely guys and other road users.

Jane Austen, in Emma, even has them appear in a brief scene that makes little sense if you aren't aware of this dangerous legal existence.
fantastic upload looks great and what a beautiful lady
Nice lurcher!
The rubber shoes made my day.
I want to marry this lovely gypsy woman and lead the modern day nomadic life with her, the dog and horses.
Ill let her know ;)
Get in the queue mate ;-) ;-)
Beautiful draft horses
They aren’t draft horses they’re one is a gypsy vanner and the other is a cob
Beautiful, ........and it looks like the lady has a Cork accent.
Most definitely a english/ Welsh borders accent.
THAT SORT OF WOMAN IS HARD TO FIND,, BEEN LOOKING FOR YEARS
Bring back the horse n cart..better for the air quality..darn cars ruining the world.
Or at least have no-car zones. Autos are great, but it's a shame we've given them every single road on the planet.
Susan brown well I think we should walk to places or go on bikes cars horses would get tired if they were used everyday for hours
Trinity_Equestrian nah not really when u pull up they can rest and evry now and then they get a day or so off
it's a shame the worlds changed so much in the last 120 years,i don't think it's all for the better, where will it end, what will it be like a 120 years from now,we will never know
FREAKIN AWESOME!!
Whats with the dog under the wagon about?
Can anyone in the UK use the roads for a horse drawn caravans or do you need a special licence/standard licence, special training etc?
No training or licence is needed but laws are getting tighter on where you can stop.
@@NomadArchitecture Thanks for your reply. They seem to have you by the short and curlies any which way!
Wouldn't dare have a horse and trolley tied on the back of the wagon. The roads are too dangerous today and if anything goes wrong your buggered.

Why the white dog is under it? 🤨🤨🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁
I think it might be stuck or tied up.That dog would not stay there if it had the choice ik.But I don't know if its stuck or tied up.
It looks attached with a harness, it's probably the safest place for it to walk as it likely runs out in the road / can't be trusted in traffic. I did wonder why it wasn't sitting on the cart at the back, then realized exercise is better for it, dogs love to walk for miles!
@@matthewdowd4686 Your interpretation. I don't share it. They looked fine to me. Lot of cars on the roads.
@@matthewdowd4686 Dude stfu. You don't know the real reason the dog is under the carriage. The black is free to roam and well trained. The white dog maybe still in training.

Fantastic...I wish the passing drivers would show more respect. Theyre passing the horses too fast
MY own driving changed considerably after getting to know kelly and other horsedrawn folk, (not that I was a careless diver before). After all horses came before cars!
Why is the dog going under the wagon?
I think to stay dry?
no, its obviously been tied there so it has to march along or get dragged. it seems cruel as hell.
I liked the look of that pot filler she had there. Could catch a few I would guess. No time for wasters.
How do they travel without getting hit by cars?
We all drive pretty carefully here in the UK! And they stay off the really fast roads.
There is a dog under the trailer, is it supposed to be there???
Yes, the dog is happy there. A few people have commented on this. Please be assured everyone, all Kelly's animals are well looked after. If the dog did not want to be here it could easily ride in the wagon.
I want to see more video 😢😢👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

Beats me why so many people give this the thumbs down, Is it Kelly or my rough video making?
@@NomadArchitecture As I'm going through the comments I'm being left in mild shock at the animosity towards your friend. But not surprised. There's a lot of bigotry towards travelers here and especially in Eastern Europe. Also, there is nothing wrong with your film making. I am really enjoying your content.
What dies the withe Dog under the wagon?
Horses are beautiful animals but I will admit to being a bit scared of them. One kick and they could seriously injure you.
Not a traveller , travellers are a breed apart , and they drive vans now , but still deal in Horses ,are for the most part Irish ,and I wouldn't want to tangle with them . This is a New age middle class girl living the dream , until she gets ill then she will ring to daddy , but good luck to her
Some of what you say is true, but she has no daddy to ring. I am editing an interview with her, then you can decide for yourself.
@@NomadArchitecture yes that's fine but , I don't think she warrants a films about tacking up her horse , and she absolutely nothing in common with Nomad culture or architecture . That aside I love all the other vids you have posted . Fantastic insights into a culture that is fast dying out ...... once again many thanks ....
Kelly "middle class" 😂😂😂😂
@@NomadArchitecture weres the interview
@@prankedup629 Yes, good point. I had better get it edited I suppose.
The most obvious question is..where do they wash? Where do they wash clothes? Where do they get money from?
Well, I cannot speak for Kelly, but I lived on a boat for years. I washed in a bowl just like most people used to before fitted bathrooms became the norm, I also had a network of friends where I could wash clothes and have the occasional bath. Money is always a question for travelling people. Kelly does a beautiful job painting horseshoes and such, and also builds wagons for other people. Other travellers have all sorts of ways of earning a living, from seasonal work on farms to making and selling things.
Nomad Architecture it’s a very interesting life with a certain romance about it,but winters most be very tough..not mention the laws trying to stop people living a life outside of the system..I’d love to buy a couple of acre’s and put a caravan on it live a more basic & cheaper life but I believe that brings a world of pain with planning etc..

i dont know the traffic law there in Britain. to what category is the horse drawn cart classified on the road? bicycle? car? and if the horse and the cart r separated, r there any legal differences between separated or unified?
Well, classified as horse drawn vehicle not surprisingly. They are of course a very old way of moving around here and there are a few bridleways that they can use but cars cannot (a much disputed area).
