Michael, Bernard, Darryl, Booby & Steven _ The NYC Peech Boys. This music has got me reminiscing, about Garage days, and yes the other clubs (Better Days, Peter Rabbits, The Loft), and The formation of this band. I knew them (as mentioned before), my cousin Athen was instrumental in connecting them to Larry Levan & the whole Paradise Garage scene. Precious memories, Awesome music... "I looove the way you shake it, agitate it...gets me in the mood."
As a paradise garage members Since 1982 I got to meet & hang out with the peach.boys Life was good. Thank you paradise garage for some unforgettable journey's
yes I was in the house when they first played it....it still sends chills up my back one of the best nites i had at The Garage still got all my membership cards..and still got the album,,,
This music, that time and place,no club can ever compair, hanging out with Larry and Tee Scott got me in to djing over 30 ago.I saw The Peech Boys sing this song at The Garage,it still sends chills up and down my back everytime I hear it.The album is worth its weight in gold...........Peace and love Dj Mr.G FunkySkatesProductions ATL-New York
I remember going to Larry apt with the elevator & the peech boys were there, I think Larry had these Doberman Pincher dogs, I was in such awe & very shy..this was the early days, what great memories..
That logo's world famous, now. Who would have thought, now we're basically the world's club aristocracy. When I tell younger heads that I was a Garage member, their eyes get as wide as saucers.
Its weird how music from this period had a mystique that you just don't get today. I guess you never knew much about the group behind it and there was a lot of experimentation with remixes, limited editions and the technology behind it all was exciting. These drum machines (Linn?) and synths (Moog?) should sound primitive by today's standards but to my ears they sound expensive, classy and sonically rich.
Ya, I agree. This is Moog, and in this case Oberheim DMX and they used Linn on some of their others such as Life. They sounded expensive because they were; the sounds of those instruments they’re still trying to emulate with recent year emulations but they’re not quite as good.
does anybody remember the membership wrench (before they got the cards)? And when they used the smaller room with all the large male paintings on the walls as the dance floor? That room was later changed to the refreshment room.
No. The mix the you should have heard was when they were creating the track, before the verses were in the mix. I remember the first time he tried it out on us. It was like "ohh =Shit what it that song" It was really sparse with that reverberating deep bass that traveled from speaker to speaker across the room. The mesc was good that night. I went back next week just to hear that song again and he played almost at closing time. Then they diluted the song with the vocals and the guitars, I guess to make it more commercial.
What you’re describing..the reverb, the trippy audio bouncing between speakers, that was the classic G vibe. But when it came to the record, it had to be recreated in a studio, which usually means more formality that often loses something. Same with adding the vocals in a studio.
I was there the night they played this Boy Do I miss walking up that Ramp RIP Larry
