@@user-we2oj3kh7t Thank you so much! 🙏😊 Your encouragement means so much to me. I’ve been a wanderer for years and have been enjoying sharing my travels here.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. This was my first time visiting Itaewon in several years too. I lived in Hongdae back in 2014 and have always liked the neighborhood for its art scene, cafes, restaurants, and bars. I don't get to Gangnam often, but it was fun to see again.
Calling Itaewan dangerous and sketchy is like calling Beverly Hills dangerous and sketchy. As someone who has visited or lived in Korea and in Detroit, NYC, San Francisco, Philadelphia, downtown LA, Houston, etc, Itaewan is kindergarten safe. 😂
Have you been to Beverly Hills Lately? 😂 I too have visited and lived in all those cities (as well as Baltimore and Memphis). I totally agree with you that Seoul, and any other city is Asia, is safter than any city in North America or Europe. However this video is not a comparison between the US and Korea. It's meant to introduce neighborhoods within the context of Korea. In that regard, Itaewon is very different from Hongdae or Myeongdong. I was also speaking in terms of historical context as I was there before it was gentrified. The mere fact I can walk anywhere in Seoul after dark (filming with a camera) says it all. A comparison video would be something I could do in the future though.
@@AtHomeAnywhere I was in Beverly Hills 5 months ago. Lived around that area for 12 years. Despite the recent news of some random daylight robberies, it was perfectly safe. LA metro has 12 million inhabitants and many cities within. Now Downtown LA skid row is truly scary. You made it seem like your life was in danger in Itaewan. Lived in Korea for 10 years. Itaewan even before it was gentrified was nothing I would call dangerous. Sketchy maybe because of all the foreigners who had no manners and caused trouble.
@@slee2695I agree that drunk soldiers (or anyone for that matter) was and can be a problem in Itaewon. I remember the Burger King murder, but it’s also true that it’s rare in Korea for that kind of violent crime. I’ll say that I have been robbed and followed in Itaewon, which never happened in any other neighborhood in the country.
This guy sticks out like a sore thumb. Btw, Itaewon is safe and always has been. Back in the day, if trouble is what you were looking for, then you can find it. But, you're never in any danger or threat of danger.
I have friends living in Haebangchon (해방촌) and they told me the same thing. I remember the Halloween party in Itaewon every year, but I never went and then I heard about the horrific crowd crush in 2022. I was in the USA at the time and the news just hit me hard because I knew the area and people there. It was so sad. I guess another reason Itaewon has changed is because the US military base in Yongsan doesn't really exist anymore, so I didn't see a lot of soldiers wandering around.
Where do you enjoy spending time at night in Seoul, South Korea?
You captured night life of Korea beautifully. Nice work!

During the hooker hill times the only real problems are drunk soldiers fighting.
There was a big unalive case in the Burger King..but that was rare

After that tragedy happened in Itaewon, people just don't go there like the old days.
